Asked To Leave The Field For Prong Collar UseJulesP replied to davidthedogman's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports Jules I think the biggest problem is, people!!!! Look at the dog, they meet, decide in a nano second friend or foe, then they sniff bums and wag tails like crazy. What a self centered egotistical lot we humans are, dogs must look at us and say. YOU have issues serious issues hah hah Well there is your problem you didn't sniff bums.

The individual club can make it a rule regardless of state rules. My club doesn't allow check chains (unless you are assessed ok to use one) but they aren't banned by the state body.

	Very interesting thread

If you live by yourself sometimes you just want to talk about it too. You just want to have that general panicked 'shit-what-do-I-do-now' convo. Depending on were you live it is also not that easy to just rush off to a vet. Not everyone has the funds to pay for an emergency or out of hours visit either so checking on whether it is an emergency is a good idea. And really does it matter if someone wants to put a post like this up. Don't read them if it bothers you so much. I will be eternally grateful for the DOL members that were here for me during my 2 emergencies. Glad to hear doggie is ok today.

The Chirnside Park vet has a really good reputation with cats. I know cat breeders that drive quite a distance to go there. It is the one on Switchback Road.
-
Why don't you ask the breeder to explain the diet and the ingredients? As in what each ingredient is for. Unless the diet has been made up by a vet/naturopath/dietitian I wouldn't be happy.

I generally do no on lead walking until 12 months. That is forced on a lead walk for 30 mins to an hour type walking or running. They do on lead socialization, daily training and free running.

I did report the dog that attacked my dog. It was an 'attack to kill' episode too not just a bit of snarling. My dog had quite significant bite wounds. The ranger said that it was up to me how he should proceed. Up to me if I wanted the owner charged and taken to court. He also informed me that the owner's husband had just died the previous week. I felt unable to insist on charges. I had never seen the dog out before and I just hope that the whole thing gave them a big enough fright to be more careful. I did feel totally let down by the system. I didn't think I should have to decide how the council dealt with the matter. I can't chance that dog being out again though which is why I stopped walking here. Next door keep a guard dog that has got out once and there are Maremmas down the road that guard chickens that have got out.

Sorry that you are going through this. I just looked up the B/D. Personally I think you are wasting your money feeding this. It has pretty crap ingredients and I just can't see how food is going to dramatically help a dog with dementia. It has certainly got some ingredients in it that might upset a dog's tummy imo.

Seriously.. It's Humans Who Wreck Dog Park Fun For DogsJulesP replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion My fav off lead spot is also very much dual purpose. There is a river, so think muddy dirty dogs. Now think people dressed in white pants going for a stroll.... I seem to spend the whole time my dogs are off lead yelling at them not to go up to people. They are so friendly. Not sure if it is really worth the stress. They also make a beeline for people sitting on the ground. Yes I can call them back but again it involves talking louder then I like! The person that caused the most 'fun spoiling' on the weekend was the group with the pony. Horses are not allowed in this area. I am sure they would have been pretty pissed off if the dogs had spooked the pony. I had to wait for ages whilst they tried to get the pony through a puddle and then the girl just had to ride way off the path right past were I was waiting 'out of the way'. Grrr Oh and I hate joggers at the moment. If you want to go lumbering past someone give them some room!

Oh Jessca I am so very sorry. Big hugs to you. RIP Kaiser

Thanks for asking Pretty Miss Emma. Amber is going pretty well. Heaps of energy, eating and putting weight on. She still has some fluid in her belly. The change in her eating is amazing. She is nearly knocking the door down now at dinner times. She used to eat in a very depressed manner. Poppy thinks the 6 meals a day are pretty good too! I am quite anxious about her still. This morning I could only hear Poppy so was thinking the worst.

Eating well and heaps of energy but think she still has fluid in her belly. It doesn't seem to bother her though. She is doing a heap of barking, not sure if that is the HE coming out. The liver group I am on suggests using a product called Pediasure (vanilla) for dogs that will not eat. We don't have the mixed up drinks here but you can get the tins in some chemists (chemist warehouse has it). I think it is the kid version of Ensure.

I was getting worried about you. Sorry that Kaiser isn't doing well. I hope you can stabilize him again.

The tinned Hills is supposed to be better than the dry. The main 'problem' with the dry as opposed to the RC is the meat content in it. If you dog is ok with the fat in the tinned, then that is pretty good. It is definitely the most 'crap' food I've ever fed in terms of ingredients but my dog thinks it is pretty damn good. She is putting weight on and has stacks more energy. And she is gobbling it up. I used to stand outside for ages waiting for her to finish eating. I don't know if dogs know what is good for them but she certainly seemed to. She totally rejected the premium foods that were high in protein like Artemis grain free and Canidae. She also used to get a fair few skin itches. They have totally cleared up as well.

The urine problems arise from the liver problem though. So you really need to feed a 'liver' diet rather than just a low purine diet. They are fairly similar though. I think it is the toxins from the liver not working properly that cause any stone/urinary problem. Some dogs with liver problems need to stay on antibiotics because of this. A liver diet also needs to be low in sodium and fat. Affected dogs also need tiny regular meals. Approx 6 a day.

Does Anyone Know If I Can Import Dog Food Online?JulesP replied to a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming Royal Canin Australia do not import the food that we need. It isn't available in the UK either. I called them and they said they didn't have clearance to import it and it took ages to get clearances all too hard, blah blah blah, go buy the Hills L/D.

Asked To Leave The Field For Prong Collar UseJulesP replied to davidthedogman's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports Only on club grounds. Aren't we talking about on club grounds???? Starinais and I had suggested working on public land adjacent to the club as a means to socialise the pup without breaking any rules. I tried this with my dog and was told I could not used the grassed area next to a local club as technically it's 'part' of the grounds that the club hires for training (even though they don't use it). It's a very good idea if you can do it, but many won't even allow you in 'their' carpark. Our grounds are a public oval. General members of the public are often strolling through on our training days.

It is super annoying when the owner acts like you are a crap groomer because you couldn't do a breed clip because their dog was so matted.

My club doesn't use check chains but they can't stop people using them outside of the training day. I could go down to the grounds tomorrow and use a check chain if I felt the need as it is public property. (Am using check chain as an example as I am in Victoria)
