Leo doesn't need much encouragement to be a lap dog. He loves his cuddles.

Elevated Liver Enzyme [alt]JulesP replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming With egg whites it would be about 2 egg whites a day for a little dog.

Elevated Liver Enzyme [alt]JulesP replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming Here is Jean Dodds liver diet - http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.com/liver_diet.htm Instead of the fish use egg whites. It is important to feed lots of little meals. There are heaps of supplements (milk thistle, SAMe) and other medical treatments (antibiotics, diuretics, lactulose) but probably best to get a diagnosis first.

Elevated Liver Enzyme [alt]JulesP replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming Really don't want to say this but this actually can be a symptom of liver problems I'll find the diet and post it for you. Low sodium is important as is low purine (dogs with liver issues can have urinary issues too). Low copper too at this stage is important.

Elevated Liver Enzyme [alt]JulesP replied to Skruffy n Flea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming Not sure why the vet is saying that about the bile test? Lots of people on my liver list have bile tests down with their little dogs. A bile test will only show if there is a problem though. A ultrasound might not pick up anything either, especially one down by a normal vet. A high reading could be heaps of things. It could be something the dog is eating. It could be something serious. Does Bella have any symptoms at all? some would be: fussy eater, tummy problems, problems putting on weight, poor coat, pacing for no reason, pressing her head against things, swollen belly. To see if you can drop the ALT levels I would adjust her diet. The easiest way to do this is to feed Hills L/D. A homemade diet would feature egg whites & cottage cheese for protein, some veggies and rice. No animal protein so the liver has a break. My dog presented to the vets with a swollen tummy. A ultrasound of her heart showed a tiny liver, her ALT reading was 268. The next thing we did was a bile test which came back in the abnormally high range. I was then sent to a specialist who luckily found the problem via ultrasound (I say luckily as it was the cheapest option). Amber has multiple liver shunts.

If my dog approached an on lead dog I would consider that my problem. But agree that people with DA dogs should be taking precautions in a off lead area, that means a muzzle. This is for your dog's own sake. I never did off lead, tried it for a while and the stress is just too much!! Mine aren't DA but Poppy loves people a little too much. I spend the entire walk calling her off people as she hurtles towards them squealing with joy!

Not sure why you think the owner rehoming their dog is going to be less likely to find a good home then a breeder or breed club? At least the people are trying to find a home and not just dumping the dogs.

Is All Pet Mince Full Of Preservatives?JulesP replied to Poppy's mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming If the product doesn't start to get whiffy in a couple of days after opening then I would be suspicious. Both pet supplies near me were quite cagey about their meat. Their response to 'does it contain preservatives' was 'we don't add any'. mmmmmmm Think 4 Leggs is pretty safe as that never lasts long after opening the container.

Yeah!!! For the liver I would suggest milk thistle and SAMe. They both support the liver.

VAN are you paid advertisers on this site? If you aren't I suggest you do so otherwise posts like this are really rather cheeky.

What Is The Worst Thing Your Dog Has Eaten?JulesP replied to dubbleyoo's topic in General Dog Discussion My first border collie, Moss, ate a apple tree. Thought that was a fairly good effort. It was over 6 feet tall but not super thick, I got home to a couple of inches left in the ground. That dog destroyed so many plants!

I guess it depends what your dog is sensitive to. Amber is allergic to brewers yeast so this product didn't work for her. You can usually pick up sample of it if you want to try it.

How Did Everyone Come Up With Their Dol Names?JulesP replied to huskies4life88's topic in General Dog Discussion Mine is my name. My theory is that if I can' say something on a internet forum as 'me' then I should not be saying it.

I just don't agree with this and I don't think that you have a good concept of horse ownership. Horse ownership is heaps less restricted than dog ownership. Horses aren't registered with council (in most places), I'm sure there is plenty of dodgy fencing around and you don't have to train your horse. The only difference I can see is most horse people are horse-crazy like we are dog-crazy, so a heap of care is taken. I see less of 'lets get a pony and shove it in a field'. People that do that seem to realise the error of their ways fairly quickly too. It isn't the fencing, training & zoning that is important it is the owner. I think the horses would suffer more than the humans too if every household owned one.

Seminars Vs Ecourses/online ContentJulesP replied to Kavik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports Go and see Greg I went last time and want to go this time and haven't even been doing agility! With an e-course I would want to be able to be sending video back to the person for feedback, not sure if that is the case with the Susan G course? If you don't have that you really don't know if you are doing things correctly.

Holy crap - I wasn't going to post, but AMEN!!! I am terrified of pigs - have you ever been bitten by a pig? Put me in a cage with a foul dog any day, just dont set your boar on me! I may be scared of birds.....

The horse is not to blame. But neither is the dog! Would you like to explain your reasoning as I don't really get what you are trying to say?
-
	Don't forget herding!

	Very sorry to read this

Are you saying that dogs are capable of murder? I'd say even the worst HA dog acts without intent. . . . Well even manslaughter is the wrong word as often it is just the person either falling off or being in the wrong place. I don't see how you can blame the horse if it gets a fright and spins around and accidentally kicks a person in the head. How often would you say a dog accidentally bite someone? I got my hand in the way of a dog fight once, so yep that was an accident as neither dog was aiming for me. Got chomped by 2 different dogs last year, both intended to bite me. In over 20 years of riding I've only had one horse that deliberately chucked me off.

I wonder how many of the horses died too? A friend worked at a one day event and 3 ponies/horses died. No people died.
-
Oh and my horse saved me from my cow once!! Henry-the Dexter cow charged me in the paddock! Jock the brave Arabian left his dinner to gallop down and get in-between me and the charging cow! Jock then drove Henry off in a lovely display of herding.

Most of the horse related deaths could be called manslaughter though rather than murder. A horse hits a jump, kid falls off and breaks neck is totally different to dog escapes, barges into house and mauls little girl. The cases of horses actually mauling people are quite rare. Often it is just an accident or human in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don't ride anymore because of the potential danger btw. Last time I fell off I was living by myself and it took me quite a while to get off the ground (broken tailbone). As I am totally responsible for my mortgage too I stopped riding.
