Exercising Reactive Dogs Thread

It is worth checking out every off leash place near you. I found an oval right near my house that is very quiet. Think I've seen another dog there once. -
Nice place Clyde

A normal stock electric fence does have the potential to kill an animal that gets stuck in it. Know of a couple of horses that died this way. Also know of a child that was killed after get tangled in the fence.

After I stopped treating the rash it cleared up pretty quickly. She has a few red spots on her belly but looks pretty good apart from that. She did have some tremors tonight so obviously her liver is under a bit of stress.

Which socks did you get Jules? These ones (thorlos) - http://www.cleanrun.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1840&ParentCat=473

I've got my own contact allergy at the moment so thought I would test out some stuff! Used the Elocon (cortisone) last night and it was really ouchy to put on. Did nothing for the itch either. Allergy actually woke up in the middle of the night. Put on some antiseptic cream which didn't hurt but itch started back pretty quickly. Put the Aloe on this morning and no itch now!

Vet Fees (surgery Extras) - Blood Tests And Iv Fluids (optional)
JulesP replied to dammit's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dog appeared to be healthy. She was just a fussy eater. However it turned out that she has a serious liver condition and the chances were very high that she would have died if she had gone under a general anesthetic. From now on I will always get the bloods done on my dogs. If nothing else it is a good health check. -
My box arrived Mine had been sniffed over too Not super impressed at the state of the box but everything was in there. Like the travel beds. Not super thick as other people have said but that would make them too bulky I think. Got a crate mat which is nice but pretty thin too. Got the pop up crate. Isn't super sturdy but I am sure will come in handy. I'll give Amber a whirl in it, she is very good in crates. Got some socks and one lone toy - a wubba. The dogs aren't toy fans but I mowed their fav-only-toy-they-play-with and I am trying to replace it!! Hope they think this is suitable. I used to love watching them trot around with this toy (a dumb bell made of tennis ball stuff).

I would personally be removing the barbed wire anyhow, I would be too worried about a dog poking a eye out. You can still use the same posts though which will save you a fair bit. I wish I had meshed my outside fence when I built my fences but I would still have a smaller day yard for the dogs. It also makes it very exciting for the dogs to go for a run in the bigger paddock if they aren't out there all the time.

Talcum powder works well for ants. They don't like walking in it. Bit messy though. I use it under the cat's kibble bowl.

I stopped putting the cream on the rash (only put on a couple of times), used eye drop cream around her eyes and aloe vera on her belly and it is now clearing up. She is pretty scabby looking but the red rash has gone. I swear that the cortisone cream makes it worse! Someone suggested that it is staph but I don't see how it can be as there isn't a primary rash, plus she is on antibiotics for her liver which I would have thought would prevent staph. Whatever it is it comes and goes very quickly.

I've got some chicken mesh and some dog mesh. The chicken mesh has gone saggy (professionally installed) but the dog mesh is still pretty good. So I wouldn't use chicken mesh again.

That is good! I think that little heat wave knocked a lot of people/animals about. Going from cool to hot like that is a bit painful. Loving the weather now.

I would question you guys that are feeding BH also feeding CO. That seems to me to be a heap of oil getting fed, seeing as BH has a fair amount of oil in it.

Nothing goes on or in me or my pets until I've googled the shit out of it Mainly because I have had quite a few unpleasant reactions to vitamins etc. I might try rubbing some into Amber as it did help me when I had a bad reaction to a shampoo once.

Is Lucy ok now Megan?

I think the important thing to remember is even natural substances can do harm sometimes. I view the giving of natural substances the same as giving drugs - I do a heap of research.

I googled liver and skin and came up with this - Hepatocutaneous Syndrome. I am wondering if this is not an allergy at all. http://www.dermatologyforanimals.com/men.html eta: I don't think Amber has this but obviously liver issues can effect the skin.
