  1. Thanks! I had them on my list at Xmas time but took them off. Have been regretting it!
  2. Thought I would update that Amber's leg came good after 4 days on the anti inflams. I walked her yesterday and she stayed sound and has been off the tablets for a couple of days so looks to be all good. I think my vet is a bit of a drama queen! Not good because I am a stress head.
  3. Maybe there isn't anything wrong with him as such but he is just sore after the increased jumping???
  4. The L/D prescription diet has saved my dog's life. Currently watching her doing zoomies and playing with her mate. So I don't think it should be totally dismissed. There isn't a suitable meal I could make up and feed her. I can give her the odd alternative meal but it usually results in some fluid build up.
  5. The OP just sounds like a normal member of the general public. Most people would probably say it would be nice to have pups from their dog. Gawd I had half my last puppy class saying it. It is through lack of knowledge but any evil intent. You just explain the health issues and the joys of living with entire animals. Most bolt to the vet to get the animal desexed. Most people wouldn't understand the whole limited register bit either. I am not convinced about the limit register myself. Honestly though this is why people just think it is too hard and go buy a pup from a petshop.
  6. I would be interested if Bruce thinks I can/should feed a natural diet to my dog. She is a 2yo border collie with multiple liver shunts. She has had hepatic encephalopathy episodes. She also needs a low purine diet as she had had stones form. She is currently on and doing well on Hills L/D. I am slowly going broke though! I have a fairly good idea of what I could feed her but have been advised not to go that route by the other vets.
  7. lol, I've had a couple of borders that are like that. Especially peeing or pooing on lead. He might pee after one of the other dogs has peed. Poppy will pee after Amber has peed but not out by herself. I sort of have to pretend I am not watching either and bushes/trees are needed.
  8. The victim may have walked out of the way to the extent of the leash. They have stated they walked on to the nature strip. The dog may however have lunged at the person, dragging the owner and so decreasing the distance. The fact that the victim did move any distance around the people suggests that they attempted not to get chomped. Or do you think the victim should have crossed the road? They stated that the footpath was blocked with the offenders and their dogs and walked onto the nature strip for that reason, not to be clear of the dog's leash range, which at the time probably didn't enter the victim's head to do so? The leash range of a strange dog to me is their personal space which I prefer to keep out of to prevent what happened in this case. So if you want to be a thrillseeker by entering a strange dog's personal space, the bottom line is, be aware that getting bitten may be the result........the choice is yours :D As you were not there you do not know if the victim was originally outside of the dog's leash space. You have no way of knowing how far away the victim was when the lunging occurred.

  10. The OP asked for cheaper than the local vet. It is horrible expensive food especially when you check out the ingredients. I found my vet was about the same price as the online stores + freight. It is just expensive food.
  11. It is quite obvious that the ready to go food doesn't require soaking. I enjoy making up foods like this. It is fun. But I also loved feeding my horses, something about making up mashes..... The horses never needed a warm dinner but it made me feel good. I loath cooking for people though
  12. I hope your friend is ok. When Brock and I got attacked the owners left me laying on the nature strip too. That is one of the things that has really stayed with me. Watching them walk off whilst I was splatted on the ground. Very hurtful. People that think they can take up the whole path/track are my current pet hates. Single file morons.
  13. The pre-mixed stuff comes in a pretty small packet. 1 packet would barely feed 2 borders. I think it was pretty expensive too. Fairly sure I paid around $6.95. I view it as takeaway, easy and quick to feed. http://www.petsonthepark.com.au/prod1829.htm I don't mind the smell and all my dogs have eaten it happily.
  14. I did notice Poppy having pooping issues when she was on super premium food.
  15. You reckon? Perhaps you're right, but I find with dogs - especially if they are nervous/scared - it is harder for them to be ok with being on their backs for you, up on a hard xray table, in an unfamiliar and scarey environment. But regardless, I hope you manage to work out a way where you can avoid the drugs. I agree with Dancinbcs suggestion. Drugs might work faster but when other condition/s are taken into account, could prove worse. I'd be inclined to try the conservative way first. Just my opinion though. That is what the vet said about the xrays. She is being treated as he would treat a normal dog, trying the anti flams first. She just has a different drug than normal. After a tablet this morning the leg is more relaxed and she is weight baring a bit so fingers crossed.
  16. Didn't enjoy it at all! Towing the trailer was a pain in the arse. Would be ok in the suburbs I guess but people would lie about their driveways or the state of their road. Not super ideal conditions to work in either - hot or cold and squishy. Think you end up with the really feral dogs and people. I had my own business.
  17. Normally she does have xrays without a sedation. The vet was concerned because it was a leg. Easier to do if it is a tummy xray. There are natural anti inflams (arnica, devils claw etc) but she isn't weight baring. I find drugs work better when the injury is worse.
  18. Just got over the phantom pregnancy and the allergy and now Amber has a sore leg! Not a major issue in a normal dog but when you have a dog with a liver problem it is a big deal. Vet thinks it is her hock joint. Anti inflams are a issue because of the liver. Xraying is an issue if she needs to be sedated. If it is a major problem that needs surgery well that is going to be nasty. Poor vet didn't know what to suggest. I've gone the anti inflam route and fingers crossed it doesn't cause a liver problem. Hopefully it is just a soft tissue problem. Vet had that look on his face though that he thought it was worse. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
  19. I've been looking through her videos this morning. Very good. Very clear.
  20. Yes me :) I can't feed Amber any meat at all due to her liver condition. She can get a tiny bit as a treat but the last time I fed her a lamb flap it caused her to have a seizure. She needs to have vego protein as it is easier for the liver to process. How does it work for Amber? Well she is alive :) She also put on some weight and now scoffs her food down. Unfortunately I can't feed VAN due to some of the ingredients.
  21. Don't laugh I just free leased a Purebred Grey Gelding! Picked him up on Boxing Day. Looks a bit like someone you knew well. E.T.A. 'Cos I knew you'd ask. By Nevinska out of Khawasai. :D lol. Was watching Escape to the Country the other night and there was a stunning Crabbet Arabian on there. My heart flipped over.... sigh....
  22. Not an Arabian but pretty cute :D
