  1. If you join the club though you are bound by the club's equipment rules.
  2. This isn't my thread but as I am going through the same thing thank you!
  3. I feel your pain. I don't walk from my house anymore as it is too scary. In my case I have to negotiate a heap of guard dogs. They are locked up but a few times they have been out. The only thing that saved my border one time was his thick coat. I drive to civilized on lead walking areas now.
  4. I didn't manage a walk but I did do a paddock run so the dogs were happy.
  5. And they don't need to nor do they deserve It, do you suggest we sit back and continue to let these Innocent dogs die I know It's Impossible to try and stop morons, but that doesn't mean there's nothing we can do about It to try and help That's just giving up and I'm sure owners good owners who are finding themselves In this mess are not going to give up on their dogs And you're missing the point, this Isn't a Pit or Pit X problem only anymore Please If you don't have anything positive to add to this thread, don't post, I don't want It to turn Into a negative, It's meant for people who want to try and help and do something. Thanks ETA Not wanting to listen to other people's views is not going to help your cause.
  6. You can't do anything except ban people. No amount of tv adverts, leaflets etc is going to stop some dog owners from being morons. Making people face manslaughter charges etc might very well have the biggest impact. Am already seeing a bigger care factor when out walking. People aiming for better control etc. Unfortunately in the short term a lot of dogs are going to suffer. And that is the fault of anyone that has been merrily breeding pitbulls and pitbull crosses in places that have BSL.
  7. You are brave! I promised myself just yesterday that I would walk everyday. Am currently still huddled under my electric throw rug!
  8. When I started my business I actually thought I would be doing mainly washing. I had a mobile. When I went out with Jims they just did washing mainly. I ended up not getting a franchise. All I did was clip off white fluffies! I would have a grooming business again but want one with a food shop. I will be selling the food and will hire a groomer!!
  9. Dr Jean Dodd has a liver diet that uses cod as the protein source. But most of the reading I've done says that vegetarian protein is easier for the liver to process. My specialist also said veggie or eggs were better. You would not believe the difference in how Amber is eating and her energy levels. She has gone from a dog that didn't want to eat to one that barks at me for food.
  10. When you have to cut a clipper path with your scissors first you know the poor doggie is very matted....
  11. You can not just buy a vegetarian dog food and think it will be ok for a dog with liver problems. Some of the suggested straight vegetarian food would be just as bad for a dog with liver problems as meat would be.
  12. I think my worst was a little dog that had an infected mouth. He had really crooked teeth and had heaps of hair caught around the teeth and all his mouth and gums were infected. The smell was disgusting. I was gagging as I was trying to get the hair out. Was very upsetting. Got lots with dew claws so long that they had grown into the dogs foot.
  13. I stopped grooming as I was ready to start punching owners, lol. This thread has reminded me why I hated grooming.
  14. The stock might be the reward but the handler still controls the dogs access to that reward. Same with agility if the dog finds the obstacles very rewarding. They get taken off the obstacles.
  15. Hi, My dog has just been diagnosed with multiple liver shunts that can't be operated on. Hills do a dry and tinned food - L/D Hepatic. The tinned is better than the dry for meat content. I've also just been put onto a Royal Canin food - It is the Urinary s/o. It isn't supposed to have meat in it. The problem with meat is the liver can't process the protein in meat and that causes toxins. The toxins could lead to a coma. Supplements would be milk thistle & SAMe. A homemade diet would involve egg whites as the protein source. I'm not mucking around with homemade diets yet.
  16. Or what if the dog was higher in a different drive?
  17. I agree with Joe too Working with my girls that have both been more solid in temperament has been much more enjoyable. Like dancing with a great partner. Working with the soft ones has been character developing for me! Not one of my dogs tugs either, so I must be a super crap trainer.
  18. Some people are just rude and think that they can call tradies etc at any hour of the day or night. That is only cool if it is a major emergency. I only call during 9-5 Monday to Friday. Unless the person has said call at 6-7pm or something. I still get calls for grooming and the last one was at 4.00pm on a Sunday. I thought that was weird. I did have people calling at stupid times wanting dogs washed immediately and the answer was always no. Not my problem you haven't washed your dog for years and have visitors arriving in a couple of hours.
  19. He probably wasn't poorly treated by the last owners. I have unfortunately met quite a few Goldens that act like they have been beaten. My parents had one that was very unstable. I wouldn't have trusted any of these dogs not to bite a person either.
  20. Amber is pretty chirpy since being on her new diet. The fluid went away in a couple of days. I tried to reduce the dose as per the vets instructions but it looked like it was coming back again. I think the flusapex is stronger than the Aldactone. I think she is supposed to go on the metronidazole after the Clavulox. The Clavulox was to treat the UTI that she has from the liver problem. Amber had some HE symptoms. She was a pacing a bit and was depressed. I saw some tremors on the day she was really bad. Her main problem was refusing to eat. No jaundice at all. Apart from the day she had her ultrasound she has been greatly improved since the L/D food. Unfortunately Amber's condition can't be fixed so it is just a matter of keeping her happy. Hopefully you can get Kaiser eating. I'm using the tins and the dry.
  21. Glad to hear your doggie is feeling better. My 20 month old border collie has just been diagnosed with multiple liver shunts. We went to Melbourne Vet Specialist Centre too! I'm having issues with fluid too. Amber is on Flusopex though for that. And antibiotics. It gets expensive hey? Luckily Amber loves the Hills L/D. First food she has ever really liked. Fingers crossed for both our babies.
  22. Just read that your pup was a bit funny about eating. This plus spontaneous bleeding can be symptoms of liver disease.
  23. It is really horrible not knowing 'why'. As I said in my earlier post I had a dog die of bait, fairly sure it was snail bait. I don't use snail bait and my dogs are fenced in. I guess I'll never know how he came to eat it. The possibilities are someone did it deliberately or an animal dropped it. Hugs to you and your partner.
