  1. Ellz, I can understand heads turning at Biscuit. Schipperkes are definitely worth a head turn. My Danny is a Finnish Spitz cross (mostly FS according to a breeder) and he has been a head turner too. At nearly 15, he still looks good: thick, red, glossy coat. The pic below was take a couple of years ago, but I don't have any recent on photobucket.
  2. OMG K, your photographs are simply the best: the quality of the photography and the stories they tell.
  3. Thank you, Aphra. As always, you are clear, knowledgeable and compassionate
  4. DD - I've been a crazy dog lady for so long it actually didn't occur to me that it was something to be offended about being called Given the number of dogs we frequently have running around the house (temp care/foster care etc), the line between foster carer and animal hoarder is pretty fine... :) Oh, for sure, Koala. It was the way and context that HugL said it as though all of us who have multiple dogs are dirty and have lost the plot. Quote: "My only prior experience with "rescue" was ladies who loved dogs and couldn't bear the thought of any being put to sleep. They usually had too many dogs and all were uncontrolled and cossetted. Their homes were absolute tips and inside smelt horribly of dog (my home smells of dog but never that bad). Even heading towards dog-hoarding." I'd like to know how many of these rescue ladies HugL has come across.
  5. Okay, I didn't absorb that bit, sorry. I'd be doing as Aphra says.
  6. I wondered about that, too, Rosetta and read it through a few times without coming to any conclusion. Languages can be very different in terms of emphases, positioning of qualifying words, etc etc and thus the person can come across as inappropriate to a "native" English speaker. However, there is no mistaking the last sentence about how the dog should be free - LOL. If I were to respond to a query such as this, I would be suggesting that while "her baby" is still with her, she should not be getting another dog.
  7. Yep! I'd be seeing red too. On the other hand, you might see it as an opportunity to "educate" someone, recognising that some people are impossible to educate. Perhaps a nice polite email addressing all the questions is dot point - easy for the recipient to understand. I would also stress the point that dogs have a value beyond the material and deserve more than being thought of as a responsibility.
  8. I very much doubt wspa would even be allowed to redirect their funds towards people. They're an animal welfare organisation. Exactly. As for "forget about the animals" - what a shocking statement. It is not a case of either or. WSPA's priority IS the animals and considering they have been around for a long time and are highly experienced and qualified to go into disaster areas, I rather feel they might know a thing or two about co-ordination and co-operation.
  9. LOL. Beautiful. His bum wiggle leaves Marilyn Monroe's for dead.
  10. Me too. I could not have stood by and watched a dog who was absolutely terrified be ignored by the owner. Of course it does. The owner of the little brown dog and the owners of the dogs who were frightening it were all at fault. Frankly, the person taking the video needs a slap around the head too. I don't care that she was making so called training videos. Caveat: I haven't watched the whole video. The first 18 seconds were enough for me.
  11. Just recently someone was asking about emergency services for animals in disaster areas. Can't remember the thread or the poster, but I though you would be interested to know that WSPA is sending out emails alerting people that they are heading to the Philippines http://www.wspa.org.au/
  12. I watched about 18 seconds of that poor little dog trying to get away and constantly seeking help from his owner who just sat there like a stupid numbskull. All I could think of (meaning the owner) was, "Bloody bitch should have that dog taken away from her."
  13. Go Wilma. I hope your boss's dad is okay . What an awful experience for him.
  14. My first dogs were two Maltese puppies. They were really gorgeous looking dogs , the female was very tiny and we used to get lots of attention. I was even approached of several occasions by people wanting to buy them We were out walking once when a woman about 25 yards away started, so I thought having a "turn". She was throwing her hands in the air and then bending over touching her knees. I thought, "OMG, she is having a fit!" I hurried towards her and as I came closer, I heard, "They are so beautiful. They are so beautiful." All that said, I think it would become very irksome, Kelpiecuddles, to have that level of attention. As with another poster, the comments I get are mostly due to the number (five) I walk. The most annoying was from a man who stopped his van and said, "I hope they're not all yours."
  15. Wonderful photos and a very very handsome dog He is looking very regal in his 6 months shot.
  16. Lovely little wet botties. They are great pix. Love the pool too - the "beach" look is great.
  17. Impossible to overstate how beautiful those photos are.
  18. Exactly . Those sorts of blanket statements such as made by HugL really make my blood boil.
  19. No No No! Cannibal cannot be trusted! You must send Claudia to me !!!! She can join Tamar draped around my head at night
  20. I didn't see that survey. Perhaps you could point me to it; it would be good to read. Frankly, I would love to take my dogs to an off leash park simply for their enjoyment and enrichment. To race around, smelling other doggy smells is the joy of most dogs' lives. And, although I haven't done a survey, I would be happy to bet that most people take their dogs to parks for those reasons. The last time I took one of my dogs to an off leash park was when I was waiting for my car to be repaired. It was a small park and in the middle of a working day, so not many people. We spent about and hour there and I don't she lifted her head once. I was worried her nose might fall off - she had the best time.
  21. Attending meetings at taxpayers' (ie us, you and me) expense.
