  1. Are you kidding. If the poor dogs got into trouble birthing the people would just put their hands together and say, "It is God's will." I would be letterbox dropping to all the people in the parish. How can people be so bloody stupid. Show them photos of matted dog, the stats for the Maltese an Maltese crosses in pounds. Remind them of St Francis.
  2. Beautiful update, Caz. Tammy sure is special. Lovely Lani She's trying to get bigger than Rocko.
  3. Yes, yes they should. And preferably on the fore-head. That's what happened in days of yore .... back a few hundred years. How ghastly that we have progressed so little that we can think some of the penalities are worth reviving. :D
  4. Boof's story is also here. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=186665
  5. I understand where you are coming from, Rocco. The first dogs I had were little Maltese and I learned that they were the in the top five of stolen dogs and then when I became involved in pounds and rescue, I discovered that they (and crosses thereof) were one of the most common dogs in pounds generally in dreadfully matted states. People who bash dogs and children should be branded.
  6. Caramel's li'l tongue was poking out the other day and I have to confess, I did just that GayleK
  7. If I sent an email like this to ANY breeder, I would hope I'd get a reply that stated the price and availablilty of their pups. Any screening should come later and no breeder or anyone else, should presume to judge a buyer based on one email consisting of not very many words. Obviously I am not a breeder, but I am a foster carer and if I received an email like this, I would respond by attaching an application form and ask them to complete it. The adoption cost is on the dogs' listings and the listings show that he/she is still available. I had one email: Very interested in XXXXX contact ASAP !!
  8. Never a truer word . . . . . In fact I find it quite scary to see the difference between the older vets and the younger ones. I know they have to gain experience, but some of the younger ones seem to have very few skills. They may be brilliant on paper, but it is in the clinic/hospital where we need the expertise. And this is why I do not understand complaints about vet charges to an extent - we would not expect our GP to do all of those things. My vet has a chart in one of the consulting rooms setting out all the specialist categories that a vet does: there are 37. And, yes, complaints about the charges p*** me off too.

  10. Perhaps a copy of this should be included in every adoption pack.
  11. How thrilling . She is a stunner alright. Who's the dog in your signature?
  12. Many don't I'm afraid. Sad, but true. I would probably change "many" to "most" . Such a pathetic ignorant attitude of Councils.
  13. That is just plain ridiculous and I'd like to say more . Fancy tarring the whole profession with the same brush because you seem to have had some problems. Dogs are living creatures. Of course they are going to have problems.
  14. You must have wanted to hide in a dark place and cry after that. Tragic.
  15. Do they come in different colours - to match the furniture and all that, you know ?
  16. Apart from that, what an arrogant ignoramus Trying to second guess how you can be abused/questioned/accused is reaching ridiculous heights. I collected Silvie from the vet this morning (after desexing) and then I had to do a quick message. I left her in the car and contemplated writing a message to put on my dash for anyone concerned about a dog in a car ..... it was totally overcast and cooler in the car than outside having had the aircon on for a while. I was probably gone for a maximum 5 minutes and it was still cooler in the car than outside - LOL. I didn't leave a message.
  17. I really like this idea And what about the dog over the road who is the father :D
  18. Another thing that P@#@#es me off is some of the headline stories these articles are given. The title makes it all sound jokey jokey. A heading that showed the story was of animal cruelty would still get the same number of people reading it.
  19. As this "person" is wanted on other charges, I can't imagine it will be long before he is apprehended. I don't understand what is meant by the neighbour "retrieved the dog" either. I wonder if he has used the wrong word? And waiting two days!! Extraordinary. Although the fellow who beat Boof sure sounds a mental case and it would be damned scary being around someone like that. But if one neighbour saw, surely others did as well, or heard :D Curtains twitching and then people ducking for cover.
  20. What a dreadful time you have all been having, disorder. Poor poor Snotty. Hope his recovery is swift and complete.
  21. This is crucial and applies to virtually all facets of the lives of us living in the 21st Century. Every time "something goes wrong", there are calls for government intervention and that is the last thing society needs. Governments everywhere seem to be unmitigated failures. How many times do you hear, "[XXXXX] should be taught in school." Whatever happened to individual responsibility? Anecdotally, I believe the majority of people do the right thing. However as an example: people are allowing their dogs to run off lead, escape their yards, and terrorise/frighten people and other animals. Instead of putting a few more rangers on the beat, councils enact laws to further restrict the rights of dogs owners across the board. I would have thought that putting a few more rangers on the beat would be much more cost effective (sadly government seems more about the bottom line than actually governing) and make for a happier society than enacting yet more laws. RSPCA guidelines for animal care seem to be: adequate food, water and shelter. Doesn't matter if the dog is tied up in the back yard all day with a bucket of water that is changed every couple of months, and thrown a bone from time to time and can crawl into a broken down kennel, this apparently constitutes an okay environment. However to the original question: To not repeat what others have said, I will add an understanding of the particular breed of dog you have. The needs of one dog can be very different from those of another. It would be nice if small dogs owners (of which I am one ) understood that what they have is still a dog and not a toy even if it isn't 15 or more kgs. Perhaps the breeding world needs to change "Toy Dog Breed" to something different .
  22. My foster dog, Silvie, a 4kg Silky Cross, likes to play with Kisho, a much heavier dog and if Caramel joins in (he is about 7.5kg) she is even happier.
  23. Totally OT ;) . I have a photograph of my mother and it could be one of my nieces done up in clothes and hairstyle of the times.
  24. From what I've read on DOL and other results I've seen, I would be inclined to see these sorts of tests as just a bit of fun if you have the spare cash.
  25. What a lot of brave people we have here . I know what I'd be doing if I was confronted with a nutcase brandishing a large piece of wood....... as fast as I could. I would be inclined to do what you were thinking about, bertandsally, and door knocking your area and asking people if they know of her and/or where she lives. It is important, however, that you the whole event in writing and send it to the police, council, and local state member of parliament. Use short sentences and not "stream of consciousness" style. This may happen to someone else who isn't as fast as you and Sally are and then when the police and council say they knew nothing about this worman . . . ........ Oh and take up Grumpette's offer if only to see her beautiful dogs in the flesh ;)
