if a dog gets spooky in a new environment would that be classed as weak nerved as in spooky i mean jumps at sounds finds it hard to relax and focus and switch on

just came into here wow interesting discussion what about fireworks then and the new target came with real gunshots sounds should we ban them too and cap guns and no more starters pistols at little aths sorry too like to damage a dogs psyche ist there more imporatnt things for the rspca to deal with as for the rest of the thread same ol same ol amazing how these arguments go round and round a bit like politics and religion really ive seen too many gun shy gundogs it make me laugh maybe if dogs are being turned away for poor temprement it whould be a kick up te butt to breed better ones temprements that is to those breeders if we ban all the gadgets we wouldnt have much left food when used in trianing could be considered a gadget so could toys any form of collar and lead be interesting to see who can get what out of their dog with nothing but themselves My dogs non correction trained for obedience and we have had great results too but i picked my dog because i new he would work well with the methods i like to use and i will pick my next one for the same attributes cept maybe stronger nerves would be nice I have to admit i havent been to a k9 workshop yet not for not wanting to simply havent been able to manage it even with everyone trying to get me there lol but to judge someones trianing method without going and meeting them and seeing what they do is definately narrow minded. dont assume you knwo someone till you work with them and see what they have to offer. Plus ive been to two all positve clubs and found many of the dogs to be way out of control and lacking in manners unless their oner shoved food in their face and the dog happend to want it not terriby effective As for the removal of corpal punishment ive often wondered if that is whay we seem to have an increase of rude disrespectful teenagers runnning the streets

dont drive so have to rely on others to take me which makes it harder

i havent done any herding since the start of the year just havent been able to arrange to get anywhere sheepy lol

its just as abad when you get comments about how easy a certain breed is with no thought to temprement nerves etc or the worst one yeah but he was just gonna do it your so lucky to have an easy dog i hate that

i remember once years ago making my hubby stop on the side of the road because i saw a guy doing some work with his dog after watchign the presicion i was inspired and thast how i got into obedience competition i dont know who he was but i was very impressed. I know how you fel i remeber working my gsp when she first came to us she was a loopy dog but we got there and you wil too just focus on what you need to do and forget abotu the nuftys that just dont get it it wont be long before they will be wishing their dogs were as well behaved

ive always had very fit dogs so figure i could just take them along once they knew how to run alongside the bike but if i did do it i'd proabbaly get my son to run them through hes a middle distance runner so shouldnt be an issue for him

i think a lot of the time those looks are praise often i will see someone training their dog and will stop and watch them thinking how good it is to see it. I will aso tel the owner what a great job they are doing ive met a couple of good friends watching their dog at the park and vice versa we often get compliments from people when i work my dog at the park ive only hd one lady abuse me because she wanted her dogs to play with mine nd i wouldnt allow it

Prettty much anything my dog enjoys though obedience would be my main thing Love agility too. Would like to see rallyo and freestyle become recognised sports here as well. As for tricks cover eyes its easy to get them to hold the paw there if you use a keep going signal in your training . TRaining methods For dog sport i dont use any aversives lie corrections physical or verbal simply because its not life and death its just for fun and i have just never needed to go down that path we use lots of food and toys these days we use a combination of luring shaping and targetting to get what we want with lots of drive building and focus in the early stages

i use the same sit as mrsd but i use my other hand and for stand i use right hand sounds the same as mrsd Im not even going to attempt to descibe it lol You will need a stand signal for changes of position in udx

something to think about in your instructor course make sure there is a fair bit on communication and teaching epople after all that is what we are doing and many instructors dont have a clue how to communicate

Yes peopel need to learn to look at th positive and make epople feel goo about their attempts at training the dog Id bring it up at the next instructor meeting that as instructors you need to make the class feel good about what they are doing as its hard and singling peope ou doesnt help that

they also test biles but its a simple test to get a yay or nay as for hw its passed on im no expert but i think its recessive so both parents would have to be carriers to pass t on genetically but i think its also just one of those things though on whats good for you they were saying that as a man ages his sperm counts doesnt really reduce but there is more sperm that carry any genetic dorders so would that be the same in a dog the older the stud if he carries a bad gene the more of them would be produced so higher likiehood of passing a defective gene on

Neither course wuld be a waste of money both are good in their own way and you as a learner will get what you want from either People try to drag down courses because of their own beliefs and opinions if you havent completed the course or gone into a course with an open mind then you wont come away from it with a great deal Also epople get different things from lectures etc its surprising how much communication can break down from the time something is taught to the the ime it is repeated ever payed that game where you whisper a phrase to the person ext to you and by the time its gone round the room its changed. Just look at techers they all do the same courses some walk away from the course with a bucket load of ideas and tools to teach others just might as well give up they didnt take on board the things they needd to know Ive spoken to people from both courses and have found arrogance from both and fantastic epople from both Some people cant help but think they know it all and know whats best they arent always right

oh dont you hate that i could never understand it but t seesm some people need you in their head teling them every waking second hat to do no free thinking

Personally i get my ups out from eight weeks but i carry them and do not let them on the ground i wouldnt take a puppy to anywhere social until second vaccs is done but i do want them to see the worl what i have found is by experiencing the world for four weeks from the safety and comfort f my arms when we do go onto the ground they are very confident with everything I will allow them to say hi to a very safe dog from my lap though but only a dog i know is good with pups and has had all nedles
