  1. Josh Grobin owns a wheaten (he was on Sunrise the other week, and I'm all like 'he's got a wheaten!". I'm trying to remember who else does. Does Carly Phillips count? She's a successful author
  2. Tobias had the most wonderful life with you. He was loved and happy. For some reason when I was reading your message and watching Tobias's video, I kept thinking of this song. I know each day Tobias spent with you was a perfect day xox
  3. Do you have anything for those of us who like our dogs shaggy?
  4. Change takes time and often there needs to be a catalyst. For me, it was a little crossbreed byb puppy born in 1994 who was my whole world.
  5. All dogs have now been recovered safely
  6. And that is the best news Those photographs are so so special. They should be in the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. Amber is on a couple of Koolie Rescue christmas cards and will be on some more next year - i am going to ask the War Memorial shop if they would be interested in stocking them. Oh, great work . Tell us how you go. Wouldn't an exhibition on animals' roles in war be absolutely fascinating? Gorgeous photos.
  7. X2, Labsrule - I found that quite awful! And I got the feeling watching that Russian (?) lady hugging the supposedly 'tame' fox that it was very nervous at her touch.....lots of lip-licking, etc. A lot of the foxes are sold off as fur to help continue to fund the study, while the 'tame' foxes are sold as pets. The study was originally conducted in Soviet Russia. When we were in Estonia we saw the conditions that the soviet Russians kept animals in (even though the Estonian government is obviously working hard to improve the animals conditions). We were so close to a tiger that we could have reached out and touched it. It is just a different mindset. It needs changing of course, but change comes slowly. I thought the documentary was amazing!
  8. My worst was when I bent down in front of the bed and got hit in the cheek bone by a flying Ziggy. He'd decided to jump on the bed at the same time as I bent over. I literally saw stars and had one hell of a shiner. Ishy - last time I did my ankle, I snapped the ligaments on both sides, so basically it bent to 90 degrees one way and then back the other. That one wasn't the dogs' fault though.
  9. My first dog, bought in 1994 was a cross breed from a BYB. Back then I had no idea why that was so bad. My little Lucy was riddled with health problems and her skeleton was badly malformed. I adored her, but she was a mess, and I learnt my lesson. For me a good breeder is one who will 1) Ask you questions about your life to find a puppy who suits you 2) Sends you updates on the pups, including photos during those incredibly SLOW weeks before you can take your pup home. 3) Tells you all about the parents 4) Cries when the pup leaves home 5) Is interested in updates that are sent and loves seeing photographs 6) Gives you advice on any problems you may have, and crucially 7) Will take your dog back AT ANY TIME if for any reason you can't keep it.
  10. I'm am so often stopped and asked about my two - no one has heard of a wheaten terrier, but I'm cool with that, because 5 years ago I'd never heard of them either! It's so funny, but the first thing most people say upon patting a wheaten is "isn't s/he soft'? You would've thought the name gave it away, but even I said it the first time I touched Anouk lol
  11. I'm so sorry. At least both your babies are together again. Words just aren't enough.
  12. Very interesting and insightful. I wish everyone would read it too. Although, poodles are used as guide dogs in Europe.
  13. I actually just think it's cause Ziggy is a wuss
  14. Behind the teddy bear exterior lurks the heart of a killer.... Update, I think the bluey may have been in our garage, as Ziggy was refusing to go through there last night. Ziggy probably was freaked out by the lizard, and Anouk was protecting him (she's done it before when dogs have growled at him).
  15. Do you have neighbours with dogs? Perhaps you could offer to walk them, or put up some flyers to offer pet sitting/dog walking I really understand. I spent my childhood desperate for a dog. In some ways it does get easier, but know that you did the right thing for your little girl.
  16. Exactly! Quiet at work so doing a quick search but it doesn't appear to be listed on the Magistrates court list. Steve said it wasn't listed beforehand so maybe it won't get put up? Which courthouse was it, anyone know? In Tassie, a Magistrates Court decision/sentence wouldn't be published or even transcribed unless it were appealled. Not sure if it's the same in Victoria.
  17. Oh wow! I love these guys Shaggy dogs rock. If you get your puppy I want lots and lots of photos. I suppose you could cord a wheaten too, but they probably used to get sheared off each spring along with the sheep. I doubt the early Irish farmers spent hours trying to brush their unruly wheaties :p
  18. Wow. You were rude. You came into our forum and were very, very rude. Don't act suprised when people defend themselves. This forum was about a person seeking constructive advice as to how to deal with a problem. You over reacted and made it into a person v dogs argument, which it never was. I do not accept that people are at the top of the food chain. I once got asked who'd I save - a person or a dog. My answer was 'whichever I could reach first'. However please know that if it was a strange child v's my dogs, I'd sure as hell rescue my dogs first.
  19. Of course! And I'd come bearing a pig's ear ;) I know these wheatens :D Snatching creatures. LOL
  20. I feel so horrible. The OH called to say that he got home and Anouk was covered in blood. He looked outside and he found an enviscerated blue tongue lizard :D I know she was just being a terrier, but it's the first time she's ever killed anything ;) Poor Bluey.
  21. I think you're in the wrong place if that's your attitude. My dogs are more important to me than pretty much everyone. And my family accepts this. That would be a careful hug because he's not a huggy man. Of course! And I'd come bearing a pig's ear :D I know these wheatens ;)
  22. I assume having a conversation with them isn't going to happen? Honestly, I'd call the police. Like I said in Sheridan's threat, if people are making constant noise above a certain level it's a nuisance. Irregardless of my dogs, that would annoy the hell out of me.
  23. I honestly think it's because some parents are sooo caught up in their children that they can't possibly imagine that the world doesn't revolve around the child. What the child wants, the child gets. A lot of parents are just too afraid to say no.
