  2. She definitely needs a health check at your vets , especially as you are new to dogs. Best to find out and get professional information
  3. Loving the new harnesses- AND boots with good tread! Some more lovely pics from doggy paradise
  4. Oh, Rebanne.... That is a horrible shock for you - I am so very sorry. R I P dear Opal .
  5. None of our sheepdog bitches are ever desexed. In my 60 years of remembering - and many, many bitches in that time ,bearing in mind dog numbers varied between a dozen and maybe 5 - there have been 3 with pyometra and two with mammary cancer(these were with bitches well over the age of 10 yrs) . All dogs have been farm bred and working sheepdogs, if that makes any difference. In suburbia, I would vote for speying . BUT the incontinence can be an issue .Our one bitch who was speyed..the family lab ..was incontinent afterwards. My own pet terrier was also speyed at 6 mths and was absolutely fine .
  6. Just wondering how things are going ?
  7. happy times ahead me - I wouldn't take time off - pup needs to get used to your everyday routine ASAP Spending a week being with puppy will then cause him/her to suddenly wonder what happened when he/she is left alone TWO big changes in a week or so is a lot with which to deal . Just have a timetable worked out - make sure you have EVERYTHING needed, and stick to your normal routine Pup will adjust accordingly .
  8. Cat was there first, and should have priority - I agree with everyone else - another breed would probably work better. This breed will need a lot of work, and may well have that very high prey drive
  9. Family purebreds were lab,OES, rotti.there have always been farm bred borders,Kelpies and Koolies. My dogs have all been mixed breeds up until Clive Koolie. Dachsxaussie terrier,Border collie X cocker, and deerhound X? Don't know about favourite...they all were different and played different roles.
  10. Agree with the others . perhaps a boy would be a safer choice- or an older dog ? Two young bitches may indeed fight to the death over who's boss, or jealousy. Bitches can get along, but that situation is usually older dogs, and pups growing up with no doubt as to who is top dog . We have bitches, and dogs . The dogs fight every so often - brief, and then friends again . Our oldest girl (14) is still the boss, but the next oldest girl is always chivvying her , trying her out .
  11. I am glad you are both recovering from your loss now . Jilly will soon adapt , and provide you with much joy and comfort
  12. Oh dear .... that does sound like trouble ! Literally .Two pups at once is hard work - and it will be more so with Lexa's extra needs. You will have an instant 'pack' ..and pack mentality is an interesting thing Lexa does sound smart, and you have done well so far
  13. You can just use the ordinary Rescue Remedy - it is alcohol based, but a few drops won't do any damage! Or get the pet one here
  14. You could also try this . I use it quite a lot with a couple of our dogs who don't like thunder . It's not a cure, but does settle them somewhat.
  15. Glad you got some good information May it all go well. A friend got her older Koolie done several years ago with such dramatic results! Great use of the leg after healing. Now almost 14, she still goes hiking, races around chasing much younger dogs , and looks great .
  16. I enjoy watching them work on those hills/mountains
  17. Wishing you and Opal all the best for tomorrow!
  18. Adrienne.,so glad the boys have somewhere to go, and you & Jilly travel safely.
