  1. ..but don't you know breeders just , well, BREED - and are glad to offload those smelly pups ? Dogs don't think, or feel sad or lonely ... gee - what an example you're setting . ;) you are doing just perfectly , kirislin!!
  2. oh!! wow! hope he turns out OK .. and that the girls enjoy their peace .
  3. Yes because intensively raised chickens and kibble are so natural. You do mean to say that wild pet dogs don't hunt kibbles in the wild? SSShhhhhhh! Next there will be safari parties for canned kibbles. LOL
  4. :) he really is a sweet doofus- problem is that he is so used to sitting on chairs/people , that he gets upset when not everyone loves it ( like my old dad- who was sitting reading happily - until..... ) Miss Molly ? wouldn't go near anyone - she is one who prefers to watch from afar , unfortunately .
  5. the 'out' couldn't have come soon enough! that would have been one very firm and unhesitating chomp! I think - to get both legs so severely - there must have been more than one chomp. And don't they usually go for an arm? Who knows how it played out - it seems odd - and i guess we will never know what took place . ;) p'raps ms Stilwell dropped a treat ? Anyhow - it would have given everyone a nasty shock - and I daresay protocols will be different now .

  7. All I can say is that it would have been one hell of a fright - coupled with some very very intense pain!!
  8. Kieran ( 36 "high and 42 kg) slept on a human stretcher bed :)
  9. there is a lot of stuff on this page - today, only the police dog story interests me .Annoys me, angers me , and makes me wonder what some folks think (or don't ) oh dear Not sure who bit off more than they could chew here .... *shakes head* explanation - CLICK HERE excerpt : from Victoria's blog: CLICK HERE excerpt :
  10. Nutrigel has saved lives of many cats & dogs who wouldn't /couldn't eat :)
  11.  Dogs will find them. zackly. I do not do 'doggie kisses' , or have dogs sleep in my bed , or let them clean used plates etc after my meal . The odd lick on a wound is not a problem :)
  12. oh ..I forgot to add THIS to your reading list!! you may also consider using the services of the author , Mark Singer. CLICK HERE excerpt :

  14. :) I'm lost without a watchdog or two
  15. we have heaps of bees ..and the paper wasps (no European wasps thank goodness) Only once has any dog been stung ...in many many years , if you have European wasps - do NOT leave any dog/bird/cat food out anywhere . bees are so important to the world - just make sure they have a water source up somewhere away from the dog's water containers : )
  16. if you have a compromised immune system - yes - good first aid is essential . Most weeks I can look at my hands/arm and see rose thorn holes/barbed wire scratches/skin off from a collision with a brick wall corner or tree , and a couple of other blood spots - origin unknown ;) have had a booster tetanus shot for dog bites a couple of times ... hope all heals well.
  17. We have entire bitches . They are managed, as are the entire dogs - so that they are not left alone to their own devices. once , we had a bitch kill an older bitch, many years ago -- when we were away - totally our fault . That day we lost two dogs if you are wanting to leave two bull breed type bitches together ... I would advise against it . Oh - and a desexed dog or bitch can make perfectly good watchdogs!! My best watchdogs have been my little dachsieX bitch ( desexed) and my bordercollieX male (desexed) I always felt perfectly safe with my boy ... I lived in the city - would walk him often in the very early hours ..would happily snooze in a botanic garden /park - knowing no one would get close . He once had a parcel delivery man against a wall , after the man unnecessarily came through a closed gate into the backyard . This same dog used to visit nursing homes, and interact with disabled children ...
  18. I doubt it very much . It is routine here for dogs to find and lick our scratches/cuts etc ...our dogs are outdoor dogs. We were always told by my Grandpa as little kids to let the dogs lick our gravel rash/cuts to make them heal better - so yes, I've been doing it for over 50 yrs . get some silver impregnated bandaids ..and use on the cut . Paper cuts hurt way more than should be legal!
  19. males are fine ... best desexed though .
