  1. Off topic a little but my English Pointer is a big boy and he curls up in to a tight ball when sleeping outside on his doggy bed. I'm always amazed at now small and tight he can curl up. They do , don't they ? keeping that hairless belly from losing too much warmth .... instinctively .
  2. second that ,Cosmolo does all sorts ... has dog had a thorough vet check ? eyes/hearing /blood tests for any sneaky things ?
  3. Most of our dogs are outside ... they most often do not use kennels, but dig a lovely bed in the sand ... I think if you can put a tarp or piece of carpet UNDER to stop the air flow thru hammock, and then use a couple of polar fleece - or WOOL blankets (check opshop) ... Dogs are MUCH more comfortable in a hollow space , rather than a flat , human like mattress - as in a hollow , any cold breeze goes over them ., the sides/base stay warm from their body .and when they curl up , most of their back is cuddled by the sides of the hollow :) That's why dogs/bears etc have dens ... to conserve body heat .
  4. Oh.... so sorry he is now over the bridge and out of sight - Such a beautiful boy ...
  5. Glad things seem OK .... keep an eye out though .... he may even be 'leaking' a bit of mucus now & then ... or have tiny tear/split ... That's good news about the new vet supporting raw feedding!
  6. Glad things are back to safely normal again :)
  7. Oh Thank you for sharing your story - and I am so sorry your big guy was given his wings . I am sharing part of this on FB , and hopefully it will alert people to the tragic consequences ...
  8. ..and yes, this is the net . where those who are not professionals recommend further searches ..and those who are professionals often prefer to NOT divulge things in such a forum , for reasons many & varied ;) humans are funny creatures :p
  9. if "double dosing is a real concern - then a university vet clinic , or somewhere that teaches Veterinary Pharmacology may be your best port of call?
  10. ..and if you do searches for topics such as "which heartworm treatment?"in a search engine , adding + Dogzonline - there will probably be some interesting info pop up.
  11. *sigh* D O L is full of people , from all walks of life . There is discussion, debate , exchange of ideas , and negotiation . There is sharing, support, comparison ,and argument. Certainly sounds like a REAL forum to me ;) if you need to discuss things from a scientific /analytical P O V - perhaps somewhere else may be more suited?
  12. Oh I forgot ticks ..we are lucky & don't get them - but for a tiny dog they are very dangerous.
  13. :) poor old thing - she relaxes all muscles- including the tongue , and without those teeth to hold it in .. it will sag out .
  14. Overthinking, perhaps? You don't have your pup yet - there may be things you have not entered into your hypotheticals- like intolerance/allergies to chemicals..other illnesses .. many of us have indeed switched parasite control/prevention methods/substances ..and there are continual discussions on D O L about this subject. They may not interest you due to a lack of detailed analyses ;) You have mentioned budgeting - if you feel you can not adequately provide the most suitable ecto/endo parasite control/prevention - then perhaps you should also cost surgeries and health maintenance . perhaps now is not the right time to add a puppy ?
  15. That does look lovely :) Now they will be crowded with DOLers :p
  16. A couple of quick iPhone Happy Snaps .. which made ME smile, anyhow I have this contraption hanging in a tree ..and when I say "Playtime" .. the terrors sit & wait for me to start it swinging - then we have fun
