we feed kangaroo tail , any rib bones ..spines/ribs/necks from sheep/goats. Turkey wings/necks , rabbits (whole) Kangaroo tail with flesh/sinew is a wonderful thing! Nice porous , non shiny/splintery bone ..lots of sinew, & some muscle meat , with a fatty pad . SO much exercise for all teeth - ripping/tearing/gnawing and crunching :)

chicken wings, feet /lamb ribs...

yes - for HUMAN environmental things - removing from Mum & siblings and exposure to different people /sounds etc . are vital forpuppies raised in a kennel . Your puppies, on the other hand have already had a LOT of exposure to lights/householod noises/smells, and handling ..walking on different textures ..seeing things of all shapes & sizes - they are well on their way to being comfortable with people & human dwellings etc :) You have done good. BUT , I didn't see any mention in there about bite inhibition, or how to play carefully , or dog body language /habits ..... (sorry if I missed it) . I also don't believe that puppies should be "weaned"..as in removed forcibly from the mum once & for all. our pups are usually weaned before 8 weeks ..as ,since week 4/5 I reduce the amount of food given to the mum ..increase that given to pups (mainly raw meat/bones )..na dmum's milk is pretty well dried off by 7/88 weeks , as puppies have meat/bones to suck on , dry food (not soaked) freely available ..and mum is often away from them for long periods...

Tess- it's great that they are going to family - however , that early rehoming , no matter how wonderful the new owners does not make up for all those absolutely CRUCIAL lessons learned while with mum,at that age - when their brains can properly process information like adult dogs .. You might enjoy reading this :) CLICK HERE

Tess- where does teh time go! Wow! Did you vet explain about vaccinating while pups are still feeding/immunity levels etc ? And that vacc's take some time to work - or that so much education takes place in this vital 5-8 week period - education by Mum & littermates which go a long way in setting doggy manners, reactions to other dogs , and social behaviours. I am glad though that you have worked so hard to get them to this stage :D

Home-cooked Dog Food & Costs
persephone replied to Frenchielover's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi - What have you been feeding which seems to work better? what did the vet say about these episodes? have you done an 'elimination diet' to find out if your dog cannot handle certain foods? is the vomiting after every meal? food for dogs is an endless thread - as every dog/household is different :) - and as everyone feeds different foods , I think it's hard to work out which is cost effective . My guess is that whichever one type of food/recipe keeps a dog healthy and happy is the most cost effective - as there are not the associated vet bills ! ;) I have never cooked dog meals - feed a lot of raw - and some dry food ..must admit I have never worked out cost - -
\ Ok. my first thought on reading this is that perhaps he sensed the presence of the trainer as someone who could confidently make the decisions - so dog didn't have to . I know you said you have booked another session - but would you consider emailing/phoning K9 pro? they are excellent at dealing with all forms of aggression/training. AS a start - have a read here. With such a dangerous object in her gut - if she were mine , there is no way I would be having her at home!! Pojnty bits can easily make holes ..and being in hospital and obseved means that in the case of trouble, they can get in there and fix it. please, if she does it again - do NOT wait and see . Small dogs and pointy/hard foreign objects are a dangerous combination ..and once the intestine is punctured , things can go downhill very quickly if not monitored. Hoping for good news soon :)

Gah, I Think I'm A Puppy Tragic!

I so wish you could :) It is amazing to watch even the new little blobs - they are set in their ways from day one! One may be noisy - one is a bully - one just eats & sleeps - one needs contact - one prefers to be apart from the group.... -
