  1. today I met these two - much loved ,working pigdogs ... wanted to see how Nikko nikon saw them ;)
  2. outbackdean - THIS THREAD CLICK HERE may give you some more ideas ...
  3. Except then you are deliberately triggering the dog to aggress. Not something I'd recommend. can't it just be done with an iPhone as it happens? I certainly do NOT mean to set up a situation - apologies I just thought that if/when it happens next -and there is no imminent danger - they whip out a phone camera and video some seconds worth or something ....
  4. . as said - you need serious "first time , ONLY time" advice . Steve is my first thought - at least contact him by phone/email , and ask his opinion . He may know of someone suited to your situation - but, yes. if you can wrangle it - he has the experience and expertise for all things aggression and large dog . Oh- video some of the behaviours shown ... that is such a good thing to show professionals with whom you are dealing . !! edit to add this does NOT mean setting up a situation !! I just thought you may grab a few seconds worth if/when it happens ... sorry for any confusion ...
  5. Gorgeous shots . What a shame it will be removed You had an encounter of the UFI kind ;) Unidentified flying insect :)
  6. have you tried a second opinion? Sometimes fresh eyes/ideas can be a big help . best of luck ... You can also contact McDowell Herbal. I suggest phoning them ( PHONE 02 6331 3937 ) and talking . They are very helpful ..and can tailor a mixture once they know what meds she is on, diagnosis, diet etc .
  7. def needs professional assessment, yes ! Thanks for the explanation :)
  8. AFAIK the AB's will kill off the good bacteria in teh yoghurt- may be best to use it when he's finished the course . Hope he is feeling much better afterwards :)
  9. T - can you explain any subtle signs before this type of behaviour - or how it is judged as being dominant ? I certainly wouldn't pick it , and would like to understand .... going on what was posted I would suggest fearful aggression....
  10. example : One of my dogs knew a friend well ... one day friend acidentally scared dog - dog would ,forever after show fear aggression when friend and dog were in certain (somewhat confined) situations. Dog was certainly not trying a domination strategy ......and the behaviour was always with this person
  11. yesterday we took some happy snaps of a friends' dogs Did someone say vanilla Slices? Did they? being a male - things can be tricky , but age brings benefits- like snuggling with a teddybear :) after she took off down the yard with my walking stick ! Minus an eye- cone on, and full of a 14 week's old mischief :) cone? what cone ?
  12. Can you have Ace on a leash? That is dangerous to be knocked over
  13. a lot of our working dogs in days gone by had the white markings .... they were mostly kelpie with a dash of border collie back then - seems it has now been selected for ?
  14. I also suggest a vet visit ...but - am a bit concerned as to his behaviour if you approach to put collar/leash on ....
  15. get sight/hearing checked as well. What makes you think it is fear ? What is his body language ? What is different from how he normally looks? Sorry this is happening - scary stuff.
  16. you pick an action and a word ... to me 'touch' is just that - touch . Grab, or get it ..could be used for putting jaws around an object ..and then 'hold"..or hang on , etc for actually holding it in the mouth ... So pick your 'commands' to what rolls off your tongue ..and to which the dog listens :) it's all very casual here .. mostly done with youngsters who enjoy chasing/picking up toys /apples "gettit" , and have been always used to me asking "what have you got?" , making it seem the BEST thing in teh world that they are carrying something which they trust me to not remove entirely . I then say "gimme" and gently remove object - admire it with much praise ..and place it back in their mouth. I more often than not end up with a pup/dog who will come & show me whatever they are carrying ..and give it me with much tail wagging .... So - we have 'gettit'.. & "gimme" for things I wish to have/see ... and 'what have you got" /show me for items they have and I may need to take away from them .... all very natural and casual ....
  17. You are doing well :) Does Mishka have a toy she likes picking up/fetching/carrying? That's what i always start with ...
  18. Sounds sorted- that is excellent . Seems everyone learned something from the incident ..and it ended well.
  19. when you say 1kg mince and 2 veg ..is that 2 kg veg?
  20. tell her if she eats a nappy - she too can have a yellow bandage ! Can I tell her she's going on hols with aunty perse? :p  :D
  21. tell her if she eats a nappy - she too can have a yellow bandage !
  22. Jumping up onto something when when needed is a fun,and useful trick/exercise, esp if one is bed bound /chair bound :) A bit like putting paws on a bed edge /door/whatever Most of my dogs have always loved playing "pick it up" , whether it be clothespegs, sox, dropped pens or usb sticks :) yes, a VERY useful trick ! Hmmm..lying still is not "the action of "Down" ..lying still is relaxing ...and just being still and settled ... My 'waiting for food' is a fun thing ..started with playing around with food ..and altered to whatever the pup/dog likes doing best ...it is usually not related to a bowl of food - that's different . I guess the principles the same - but it is 'played' anywhere /anytime :) Sorry, Shadrack for digressing - if you look at side of communicating with your dog ..there is much fun (which, by the way , does not need to be loud/excitable/fast) there to be found ! as cav&rott says :)
