  1. Agree with the fact that castration is not a 'cure-all'. training ,and more training .. also ....dogs are not programmed to dominate the world .......... he is just a PUPPY , doing what is absolutely normal , unless he has been taught otherwise . Yes, puppies practise humping , and may also pee ..but only because they are allowed to , unfortunately.... Perhaps find a local trainer/behaviourist who can help you with what you need to know ?
  2. yes- hopefully it all falls into place , and she can be done with surgeries for a long time!
  3. having seen how internal organs/tissues of bitches in season change , I can understand why it is preferable to not go in & start cutting .... yes, for sure it CAN be done, and done perfectly , I've seen it done - however it does seem more of a trauma to the body than normally , because of blood flow ..and the sudden change in hormonal levels ....
  4. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247);"> I suggest you read THIS THREAD before you buy anything :) About the ONLY way you can find out what foods are upsetting your dog is to do a properly carried out elimination diet ...one or two foods , gradually adding others and noting reactions . It is better to have a good idea what food your dog does well on , and then buy that :)
  5. Sounds odd ..however, one of ours went off her food for a couple of days a week or so ago (we are about 700km from you though :p ) MOST unusual for our dogs . She was happy and playing , etc She did devour fresh figs and pears , refusing liver treats, rabbit and peanut butter. !! Weird ... it seemed the sight/smell of the food made her nauseous .. I gave her ginger/peppermint oil & honey a few times a day ..she LOVED this also ...
  6. ..and as for Pyo .. in almost 50 years of having multiple dogs ..we have only ever had 2 cases ..both older females .
  7. Can you post any photos, or give us links of her standing normally ?
  8. I would think that no season = not mature yet ....?
  9. How have you gotten her used the collar and leash prior to the walk? Pups need days to get used to the feel of a collar then they need to respond very well to your voice ..and know to come to their name being called :) then they need to get used to dragging a leash ... then have a long leash with you on the other end ..and them being fed/played with etc ..make it a happy time . :) if your pup is only 8 weeks ..then you have weeks yet before it is 'safe' disease wise , to walk her out on footpaths etc - SO you have plenty of time to do training etc in the backyard . Take it easy ..but don't let her get away with acting precious/lying down/scratching etc and you removing collar. Make it FUN . Collar on ........favourite toy /cuddles/ball game Collar on and 'sit' Dinner! Collar on .. and treats etc etc until, she sees that collar , or responds to you telling her it's time ( I always say "Come, put this on :) " ) and hold it out ... they run into it after a while . THEN she is collar trained..my way, anyhow ;)
  10. yes... there's bone healing/growth to consider....
  11. If she's not been in season .. she would still have 'little girl' bits - check out photos/other bitches, for comparison :) It would also be unusual , if she had somehow managed to find a stray entire male ..for him and others not to follow her home!!!
  12. Why do a pregnancy test if she isn't in season? just check to see if there is any swelling etc ..cos if the vulva hasn't 'grown' and isn't ready ..there is no way she can be mated. When she came home ..was there any noticeable extra licking of rear end? Was there any wet patch on her neck/shoulders where a male may have slobbered...?
  13. I think it would come out the other end in little tiny pieces LOL I certainly would not leave a food bowl down after it was empty! Oops!
  14. Oh..glad we don't get sprayed I would hate a house/yard full of insecticide.
  15. What about speaking with the exterminator? Let them know you have a dog ask what chemical is used..and do the drill holes & then spray .. or is it a ' fogger' , or do they manually spray surfaces . It would concern me as to my health as well!..curtains/carpets/bedspreads/benchtops etc etc ... Then check as to how long the chemical stays on surfaces ...where exactly they spray (do people really have a backyard totally sprayed with insecticide????? :(
  16. It works - and is dirt cheap .. I scrunch 'em up in a bucket to wash them ... they can be stepped on , kicked, dropped ..(lucky our dogs rarely chew ) and are alwyas at our opshop :)
  17. Don't laugh.... I have been buying silicone bakeware from the opshop , as they have had LOTS. like these... soft, washable, don't tip , can be scrunched up , non breakable ....
  18. ASk what the specialist would charge ..if he will even do it himself ...then make your decision. Alternately ..put her on hormones until you are ready ...
  19. :) that's a start . Why haven't we seen the littlies in action ??? Hmmmm ?? :D
  20. Yes!! That's the whole idea :D I use beef shins or lamb shanks or roo tails .... at least 30 cm long, so all babies can have a go !! I score all the meat - so they can suck/chew it off the bone with no danger ..or mess . Oh, and I do not use water 'bowls' for anything baby ..fur or feathered...I much prefer a 'trough' sort of arrangement at first I always use the narrowest container I can ... just big enough for noses/beaks - I'm not teaching swimming, I'm teaching drinking ;) For tiny critters I use a cut-down drink bottle ..larger ones, the round cake tins with a hole in the centre- that sort of thing ..
  21. :D That last shot is just gorgeous !
  22. Cazstaff - that is good news , and I hope now that the owner will re think procedures and that staff will now operate differently. It is so hard looking at those things ....and remembering/mourning . I've been there quite a few times now ,as have others - and while everyone is different , the pain is still the same .
  23. I have seen heaps of entropion surgeries ... not really a big op .. but aftercare needs to be diligent to stop them rubbing/scratching .. you will need one of those funky looking helmet thingies , or a plain old cone for a while :) It will make such a difference, if that is the correct diagnosis :)
  24. BIG meaty bones, with the meat scraped/scored :) Easy as .... they love the smell, instinct starts 'em sucking , which is good ...then after a day or 3 they start to learn chewing ....then I introduce mince/dry (not soaked) and water bowls . No mess .. good strong chewing learned early ...and they don't bolt their food :)
