  1. Then I would have found some nice fluffy/leather toys for her :) ..and reinforced the "This is MINE, and you are NOT allowed to bite it" rule . (then again I don't have much experience, having never had a chewer ..... )
  2. You can sleep through an F5 tornado or a gas line explosion but wake in an instant if you hear the dreaded pre-barfing gagging noise in the middle of the night. You can pick dog hair out of your food without missing a beat but nearly lose your lunch if you find a human hair in your sandwich. You've fed your dog cereal off your spoon, then absent-mindedly gone back to eating cereal with the same spoon. You realize you've fed your dog off your spoon . . . then shrug and keep eating. You've sat at work, crying, because you just got an e-mail that a friend's dog died. You've had a split lip, black eye, broken nose, rope burn or mild concussion caused by a dog belonging to yourself or a friend. :) :)
  3. I know you thought (as did we) that this birthday may never be celebrated ..I do hope he enjoyed his day!! ( boy ..that time went by fast!)
  4. oh!! a faecal test won't really give much info if your dog has anything other than worms . She needs to be properly checked over. Poor thing ... an upset tummy for so long really does need checking.......and hopefully it is nothing contagious ..as she has been to the park whilst ill ..... I hope she gets some help soon ..it's always a worry
  5. Back to the vet ..maybe a different one , I think. Today would be good . No more food for now ... and make sure the vet does faecal and blood tests this time to really get a picture of what's going on! best of luck with her...
  6. Make an effort! You need to put the dogs welfare ahead of your own self interest. Harsh, I'm sorry, but where there's a will, ...... *sigh* I realise you have your own problems ... but this is such an unhelpful waste of a post
  7. YES !!!! Don't be tempted to 'mix&match' Roo needs consistency and solid grounding ..and she will only get that from one way of doing things ...
  8. It's a common problem with MANY dogs, of all breeds , who may have an allergy, or some low grade pain, or some anxiety .. Obviously treatment depends on cause .. but anti histamines/cortisone can be used to help with allergies....
  9. I have some conni bed mats (human) they work really well.. and can hold up to a litre!
  10. :) Sounds a bit like a normal teenager . First thing I will suggest is this program to follow ..which eventually , if you are consistent ... will teach all of you patience and calm ..sort of :) N I L I F and THIS THREAD
  11. In whose eyes? ;) I believe in rules , and also believe that speech/contact not be done just for the hell of it ..
  12. That is my first thought as well , and I am no hot head . An owner who is apparently suffering some sort of mental problem?? Limited income Loves his dogs will find it very hard to attend assessments/training .. is finding it difficult to comply with the rules has a very large dog who is aggressive/reactive. Going to court can be stressful and expensive . Having to cope with a tragedy if/when the dog attacks/injures another dog , or a person.would be intolerable It needs to be weighed up ............. and if this person can not manage everything, then , yes, the dog can be gently PTS , instead of being taken away and impounded .
  13. But it is . The owner has a large dog which is reacting to certain things in a manner dangerous. Clear as crystal. A similar scenario has been discussed on here many times . If council is involved, then that owner needs to follow rules. If the owner wishes to fight the classification, then he needs to pay good money to an GOOD professional and get an assessment.
  14. No Muzzle will stop that instinctive reaction to fast-moving skateboards, or aggression to other dogs. . A muzzle will lessen damage caused when a dog does attack
  15. that can only be decided by hiring the services and experience of a REPUTABLE and personally RECOMMENDED dog behaviour professional. people here will be quite happy to recommend you someone who is honest and known personally by folks here ....and who will have no rash promises of a gauranteed 'fix' to entice gullible people.
  16. Of course it does :) A so-called 'dangerous' dog doesn't usally walk around frothing at the mouth , or even be hard to handle! This type of dog is dangerous because it will attack, or has attacked . Whether an attack takes 5 second ,or 10 minutes ..an attack can cause grave harm .
  17. perhaps he likes the company during daylight hours ?
  18. In Cesar's TV shows there are NUMEROUS warnings to "NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" This is done for very good reasons. Cesar has years of experience working around aggressive and strong dogs. he is aware of every movement and is quick and smart enough to then act ...he KNOWS an awful lot about how dogs' brains work. he has a backup of experienced staff on which to rely there is such a thing as editing ... what we see is the finished product. An owner who has had a dog turn out like your customer's is NOT a suitable person to apply the techniques . Why is this? IMO- Controlling a large aggressive dog requires an owner's complete attention, and strength . A dog may well gain courage from being in a pack ..and so react in a stronger manner . Walking 3 dogs ..if one lunges or attacks will probably lead to injury , and possibly death, to dogs or human .
  19. Hi :) What has your dog done so far ? What is the daily routine like ...and what are you hoping to teach him/her? Are there any problem behaviours
  20. I have been lucky enough to meet a couple of those ..just lovely!
  21. When Mum died ..her old dog(around 13 now) would yip all night , bang on doors , etc , wherever we put her .. she would often also toilet inside. It was very upsetting to see ... but eventually I got sick of it,(and a lack of sleep) and tied her up on the back porch ..with ample bedding , treats of a night ... and she has been fantastic now for months!! Not even toileting most of the time ..and she can if she need to there ..it's a long chain .she sleeps very soundly , and is happy as Larry! So, things we don't notice, are often at work...
