  1. Hi... AFAIK, most on here who prepare their dog's food themselves feed raw ..and preparation involves pulping veg, mixing ingredients etc .. have a read HERE: The majority of young and healthy dogs do not need cooked food , and there are enough dry foods available that provide good nutrition without turning over your kitchen to the dog chef ;) What is your dog currently eating, and what sort of things were/are you planning on making? here are couple more threads which might be helpful to you :) LINK LINK
  2. Gosh............ .isn't it just amazing to see so many :D:D :):) in this thread???
  3. Oh. I can not understand putting a threatened animal life above that of a threatened human life, or how anyone could justify it , and sleep well . Imagine ,in a fire, for example ..when conditions are such that only one rescue can be made- imagine saving your pet, knowing a human is dying ... I can not imagine it , thankfully .... This isn't quite correct .. equating your dog as the child - that concept causes me some thought. Most times , a child is the flesh & blood of a parent ..they are the parent's genes walking round ..and instinct demands we save our genetic material ... never mind morals, love & all the rest. A dog is no way carrying any of your genes ...and saying you would save it as your own child is a worry.
  4. Oh Dear indeed ! She needs training, Persepone :) Gotta laugh .. I know her dogs are happy as... ..just total ratbags .
  5. ..... she has just asked If I would help her train her current dogs on lead ..and to tie up for short periods ......... Oh Dear :)
  6. <br style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: verdana, tahoma, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; background-color: rgb(238, 242, 247);"> *nods* ..people get bored, perhaps ? :p
  7. We have had several over the years .... not trained to do specifics .... just well mannered/housetrained & socialised , and of known temperament . A very nice experience :)
  8. yes .. she understands .. we have discussed it before ... but this time she actually said why she doesn't want to . I guess she likes her dogs to be brought up 'free' , or new age, or something
  9. Link to VIDEO hope it works ... Dining out ... :D
  10. A friend is thinking of adding a dog .... and of course I suggested she check a good rescue who does foster care & gives support ..so the puppy stage will be a non event , and she can see what she is getting :) "No.. those dogs are trained too much for me ...." Yes, her dogs have always been a bit lacking in direction.... But I had to giggle - who would not consider a dog with some training ? :)
  11. Thank you. It was weird this morning ..no dog bed in my room ..no one rushing to clean up Mr.Wilson's left-overs ...or baying at the back door if I was a few steps slow ..... I actually felt
  12. *imagines DD's pack in olympic lycra...* ..maybe not. Out here working dogs are fed at night .. after they have done their thing, and so they can rest and use the food while asleep ... I cannot imagine them working on full bellies , and would think perhaps it wouldn't be comfortable at all . Our dogs can run many hours in a day, and not sure how that would go on a ful belly . AFAIK wolves etc hunt, gorge & sleep , so energy is there , muscles are healed ,blood is made - ready for next time .... and I suppose stock work is the equivalent of a 'hunt' When working Guide Dogs , they were never fed before training ..always afterwards ....
  13. Thank you DOLers for helping me through today . It's been a hard one .... This is the last snap ..taken about this time last night ..as they lay by my chair ..tho Hammy has his eyes open ..and isn't totally relaxed Sleep tight, my boy.
  14. *nods* ..but then again, you've been here forever :)
  15. Thanks folks .. I have just been picking up toys .... he had a lot! Most which he'd had from when he was young.....and some special Secret Santa ones he loved !!
  16. (even tho I don't like the idea of dogs crated for so long) you both did well ...I wonder which of you felt worse? ;) Def. ditch the beanbag! My old Mitch ..he went into a boarding kennel with his nice new beanbag ..and the kennel owners were still finding beans for days :p
  17. Although I don't cart it around much now ..a walking stick kind of makes things tricky ... I LOVE my monopod :) It is old , aluminium , very light , and very handy for stabilising things . Mind you , these days when I'm out & about ..I use my 2nd best friend (apart from the walking stick) my FLIPSTICK.. takes some of the weight off ..and enables a bit of stabilisation :)
  18. . here's one of my favourites for those who liked seeing photos :) A big smile in the middle of pricklebushes .......
