What sort of infection is it exactly? Did the vet name the particular bacteria, or was it started by a fungal infection , or irritation perhaps? What diet is your dog on ? Does he have any itchy times..or chew his feet at all? I would NOT suggest using any over the counter stuff for a recurring /nasty infection . What I would suggest is finding out exactly why it is happening ..and then adjust things to minimise it. If the current vet is not giving you any other help/information other than antibiotics ...perhaps try another vet? yes, too much un necessary medication for anything is not a good thing, however, if the correct medication, plus a management plan, is used ..then things should resolve... Worst case scenario... and not all that common ..is to have surgery which opens up the ear canal to let air in, and make it much less a desirable place for nasties to live.

Not Sure If I've Already Mentioned This Image Editor

This morning, I took this snap of an Apostlebird with my little old sony cybershot .. then spent a couple of minutes in sagelight ... Certainly no prize winner- and it is not intended to be ..but I just can't get over how stress free this program is for me to use , when PS literally brings me out in a sweat, and GIMP totally confuses me . Now I can play with no worries . (and I DO) :p -
The look on her face is just wonderful ... :)

Glad she is staying in hospital for a while :) you have a crate - that's good .. BUT .. make sure there is plenty of room for the recovering leg to be stretched out fully and comfortably without touching the sides..and that there is plenty of turning around room/getting up on feet room without having to need to swivel that leg.

Is Teething The Reason?
persephone replied to twodoggies2001's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What do his gums/teeth look like? Checking mouths during teething is a big help in catching any problems early :) Will he eat the meat of you mince/chop it small? is everything else normal? it may be a sore mouth, or he could be feeling sick , or have pain somewhere ..or not be hungry. try him with some finely chopped meat ..then leave him without food until at least lunchtime.it won't hurt him. if he is still not eating ... it may be worth phoning a vet ? -

That sounds like steps in the right direction.... Hope next posts are positive as well :) -
:) On D O L there are quite a few rescue folks . They will be able to answer your questions . perhaps look in teh rescue threads ? ANY dog needs training ... so that does need to be thought about . Not having had a young dog for so many years, your dad may forget what it's like :) Older dogs are 'out there' , tho .. and I would strongly suggest you find the rescue threads and start a discussion . The experience so many D O Lers have in assessing/placing dogs will be a big help :)
