Cute babies - well caught :) -
Haven't housetrained a pup for ages ... but my pups get used to being outside in the rain..walking or toileting ... it's just something they have to do ..no excuses :p

:) My favourite dog-human ! Nice pics !

..and why would she eat kibble if she knows there's chicken wing on offer ;) ? An ear infection which has had 20 days of treatment maybe needs another pair of eyes looking at it , IMO.
-
Poor girl ..earache will certainly make her feel bad Hopefully they have now treated it differently .

We have working sheep dogs ..and they are very used to being told what to do ..whether its' "Go and have a pee".. "have a swim" ...or commands around the sheep. Most folks out this way always let their dogs off the chain or out of a run and tell them to "toilet" ..in various forms of language ;) It is a necessary thing ..as no one enjoys dogs peeing in the backs of utes , or stopping to pee/poo when you send them out in a hurry to catch a straggler or stop bolting sheep ! They need to be emptied out and ready to go :) LOL I just remembered back around 45 years ago, my Pop's sheepdogs ..one in particular. Now Pop was old school.. his dogs were tough, and had more rough treatment than nice dinners ..but they lived long productive working lives .. When Pop told them to go pee before heading off to work ..they would ..and one especially would then look at Pop, who'd say .."well, you'd better go again" ..and so , up would go the hind leg ,and another post would be decorated ..this would go for ages..and as kids, we thought it was great fun :)

Man Fights Off Hunting Dog With Pocket Knife
persephone replied to persephone's topic in In The News
My take on his comment is what he finds abhorrent is valuing the dogs' lives so cheaply that they do not get chipped/registered..and are expendable during hunts. -
My cockerX had this a couple of years ago ..and he was very miserable..I just had him on his bed, and used warm wheat packs on the tail base when I could . It camegood after a few days :) Just make sure your dog does not have an injury ..and that is IS cold tail ...

This is still a concern to me , sorry .. anything which deters cats/dogs to be used where a dog is confined .. .. if you have sprayed the whole floor ..the dog will be subject to that smell all night .. and that will be upsetting, I would think. Most of those sprays are to keep cats/dogs away from an area ..to make it smell nasty..or use a scent with which they feel uncomfortable ..that way , they don't walk on the area, and so receive cues which might trigger toileting ... Last night may have been a one off ... he may have been distracted outside and not toileted at all. May I suggest that you teach him toilet on command - then it takes a couple of minutes, and you KNOW what has been done :) It's easy to do ... just when you see him toilet..say your command ..then praise praise ... after a few days of that ..start using your word as he gets ready to toilet ..and use lots of praise ..then soon, the word itself will be a trigger for him to toilet :) I take out 3 dogs and 2 cats of a night , and everyone does their toileting before bed ;) I'm too old to worry about mess indoors ..tho accidents still happen .

Don't know about your dog.. but all mine have always been fed of an evening ... I have never fed a dog a meal (they may get a snack) in the morning ..as they exerecise etc during the day, and I prefer they do that on an empty belly :) 6 cm slice of roll seems almost enough food in itself ..tho I don't feed this . Is this what he was fed prior to you getting him? Or is it different food. How long have you had this dog , and how old is he? What brand dry food are you feeding? Most living things have preferences, food wise ... and if it is tasty and smells good .. then that will win every time :) So roll will usually win over kibble. 8:30 seems early ..is that when you also go to bed? Mine get put to bed around 10 or 10 :30 ..and we're up around 7 . If he needs to empty his bowel/bladder..he needs to...end of story. ;) The only way is to make sure you SEE him toilet at bed time .. and make sure he has not got an upset tummy. What have you sprayed the floor with? Remember dog's noses are very sensitive, and if it is a deterrent/deodorant , it will be unpleasant (and maybe irritating)for him to be standing on/lying on all night

k9angel ...Awwwww :)

could be ..it could also be redirected aggression ..if she picked him up when he was in the 'red zone' ..already being aggressive for whatever reason .. he would have just lashed out at whatever grabbed him. Dangerous , for whichever reason.

:) train him to toilet on command . easy :p When he starts peeing at home.. say '"toilet", or "Busy" , or whatever your chosen word is ...and immediately praise him ..(but not too excitedly, so he stops what he's doing ) After a few days of this, say the word when he's about to start peeing - when you see him squat or start lifting a leg ..lots of praise again... and so on .Do it also on lead when he's mastered it ..and you will have a dog you can safely take anywhere and know that toileting will be quick & safe :) To start him off ..gather a bit of soil/grass on which he's pee'd at home ..and place near a spot on which he is allowed to toilet at work .. That, and for dogs taken everywhere.."Drink" is another good command .. sometimes pups/dogs are too excited, or a bit hesitant ..but if they are used to drinking and hearing "drink" ..the it can work well . I also stop my dogs drinking, if I feel they are gulping too much at once ... Just "That'll do " ...and they halt for a little while .. all these things do make life simpler for us poor humans :)

Not necessarily ... you will find lots of folks on here with entire dogs of all breeds- dogs who are gentle and calm and trustworthy .
-
;) there are a lot of people who come on here and post something like... "What breed would suit my family" ? That seems to work well :) Welcome. Have you had a read in THIS FORUM to see if your two preferred breeds are in there ?

Any aggression needs professional (NOT a quick fix franchise) help, and much work from the owner . snarling/drooling and biting is not good. I have no idea what I would do - as I would never own a dog like that. I hope , (if she is not thinking clearly enough to realise that no-one is happy ...dog included...and that leaving him outside will help...) that a good professional will assist her in making some decisions. Poor Dog...My guess is that he will become more anti social once`left to disintegrate in the yard ... My initial feeling is that I almost hope he gets his wings...rehoming is a very irresponsible thing to do .Aggressive dogs , esp if they have bitten a human should nopt ever become someone else's problem ...and the dog is not going to have much quality of life shut away in a backyard , being aggressive.

Hope it works !
