  1. I agree . Mum to Shelley ..have a read of that thread .. work out a basic 'recipe', and then feed HALF of what you worked out is enough ;) Your guys have only you to help them regain their waistlines .It's hard, I know - my dog always looks at me as if he is starving slowly - and he gets very little food ..
  2. MtS have a read of this thread LINK it has all the information you will need . it is a LOOONG thread :)
  3. Did you get her assessed by anyone to find out why ? She sounds as if she'd be a bit of a problem to live with ...
  4. I can't see your photos .. but the first thing I thought of when I read this was a dermoid cyst ? they are little or large , and full of hair etc ., from memory.
  5. I agree here - especially in this day & age , where people can instigate legal action etc for all sorts of things It would be well worth your while to get him professionally assessed, and then get a plan tailor- made to suit you and the circumstances. If you say where you are , a reputable person can be recommended for you to contact :)
  6. poor pup . Where did she come from?Sounds as if she may have missed out on all her socialisation .... I hope there is a good trainer /behaviourist somewhere nearby who can observe and help - cos I think this one would be better dealt with having a professional at your side . Best of luck with it all...
  7. Sandflies? they are tiny and bite ..and leave red marks which take a while to go.they can also get infected.
  8. This, read it at least three times. She would never have had a chance had you not persisted for the 6 weeks you did. She would not be happy for the first time in her life if you had not of done what you did. Never think you didn't do the right thing by her - ever.
  9. One of my favourite boxers died recently at 12 ..and she was still playing/smiling the week before :)
  10. :) I put a birdbath near the cat enclosure ..so they have something to watch . I would love to live in town, and have that oscillot system!! :)
  11. Make sure you have the muzzle properly fitted. Some are too narrow in the bit under the eyes, and it rubs uncomfortably on cheekbones Some are also not deep enough to allow full opening of mouth . You need to train the dog to wear a muzzle ..just can't put it on and go to work IMO It takes a few days to get them Comfortable with it, and used to drinking , resting etc with it on. Some dogs react badly to having that thing on their faces . There is a risk if the dog tries to paw the muzzle off .. and gets a claw or foot stuck . No way do I ever leave one on when a dog is unsupervised (except in bed of a night, cos Hamlet sleeps in my room, and he has been wearing one on & off for 6 years)
  12. How? Do breeders not check every square inch of new born puppies? Count fingers & toes? check under tail ? make sure legs are glued on tight? check suction pressure in mouth , and amount of insulation around the inner workings? :)
  13. The photo didn't appear for me ...and I think any sore that's been there for a month ,and not healing needs to be seen before May . The longer some things are left, the more it will cost to fix
  14. I guess we've all seen it ..those cat pawprints/scratches on a car in a carport , the cat pee on the front porch , the piles of feathers under shrubs, the chewed lizards, and the droppings in our vege patch. Not nice things to find, any of 'em ! I wish , 30 years ago that I had been educated , and not let my cats roam during daylight hours when I was at work . I lost one when a neighbour bashed him with a brick ... I lost one (who 'belonged' to neighbours, but lived at my place) to a car . I almost lost one boy after he was hit by a car .. luckily I had my vet's ph no. on his collar and he was taken there by someone who found him , and recovered after losing sight in one eye, a fractured pelvis, and some brain injury. These days I do things differently.
  15. Sad`chapter maybe, but very cute photo :) Glad she's OK .
  16. Years ago, I trained both labs & GR's .. my experience was that the GR's seemed a bit more 'dignified' than the labs ..they were a tad softer in temperament , too.
  17. gosh!! I am so sorry , and you have definitely made the right decision for the poor boy...he must feel very uncomfortable.
  18. GSJ - have a look at this list in breeds 101 and you'll find info on your chosen breed/s :)
  19. I have no money , but am sending thoughts & prayers .....
  20. Just some stuff.....at random. he's 7 ? give him a page ,decorated with cute cartoon doggy drawings .. and two coloured pencils .. and ask him to write down what he likes about dogs, and what he doesn't like /is scared of . just leave him with it for a day or two ..no coaxing/hinting .... read doggy stories .. with pictures of kids & dogs ... watch videos of kids/dogs playing ... just gently .. don't force the issue ...then maybe go watch some dogs IRL ... I would also recommend any interaction with placid dogs be done with the child being exposed to the rump of the dog only , to start with - have the bouncy/pointy end well away :) .. that way there is no threat. Have selected dogs that may be on leash in the same room , etc wear a bandana/tshirt with motifs the child loves .. his fave cartoon/animal , maybe :) Also.. it is worth finding some one to help ..someone with perhaps a lab .. who is well trained, and who may carry a large toy , or bag of goodies , and sit in front of child and 'present' the gift /drop it near him . poor kid
  21. I was thinking the very same thing ..as if he was in some discomfort ....
  22. oh How worrying, and sudden. Thinking of you....
