  1. How? Do breeders not check every square inch of new born puppies? Count fingers & toes? check under tail ? make sure legs are glued on tight? check suction pressure in mouth , and amount of insulation around the inner workings? :)
  2. The photo didn't appear for me ...and I think any sore that's been there for a month ,and not healing needs to be seen before May . The longer some things are left, the more it will cost to fix
  3. I guess we've all seen it ..those cat pawprints/scratches on a car in a carport , the cat pee on the front porch , the piles of feathers under shrubs, the chewed lizards, and the droppings in our vege patch. Not nice things to find, any of 'em ! I wish , 30 years ago that I had been educated , and not let my cats roam during daylight hours when I was at work . I lost one when a neighbour bashed him with a brick ... I lost one (who 'belonged' to neighbours, but lived at my place) to a car . I almost lost one boy after he was hit by a car .. luckily I had my vet's ph no. on his collar and he was taken there by someone who found him , and recovered after losing sight in one eye, a fractured pelvis, and some brain injury. These days I do things differently.
  4. Sad`chapter maybe, but very cute photo :) Glad she's OK .
  5. Years ago, I trained both labs & GR's .. my experience was that the GR's seemed a bit more 'dignified' than the labs ..they were a tad softer in temperament , too.
  6. gosh!! I am so sorry , and you have definitely made the right decision for the poor boy...he must feel very uncomfortable.
  7. GSJ - have a look at this list in breeds 101 and you'll find info on your chosen breed/s :)
  8. I have no money , but am sending thoughts & prayers .....
  9. Just some stuff.....at random. he's 7 ? give him a page ,decorated with cute cartoon doggy drawings .. and two coloured pencils .. and ask him to write down what he likes about dogs, and what he doesn't like /is scared of . just leave him with it for a day or two ..no coaxing/hinting .... read doggy stories .. with pictures of kids & dogs ... watch videos of kids/dogs playing ... just gently .. don't force the issue ...then maybe go watch some dogs IRL ... I would also recommend any interaction with placid dogs be done with the child being exposed to the rump of the dog only , to start with - have the bouncy/pointy end well away :) .. that way there is no threat. Have selected dogs that may be on leash in the same room , etc wear a bandana/tshirt with motifs the child loves .. his fave cartoon/animal , maybe :) Also.. it is worth finding some one to help ..someone with perhaps a lab .. who is well trained, and who may carry a large toy , or bag of goodies , and sit in front of child and 'present' the gift /drop it near him . poor kid
  10. I was thinking the very same thing ..as if he was in some discomfort ....
  11. oh How worrying, and sudden. Thinking of you....
  12. Didn't realise I'd repeated myself, sorry. Why does it seem odd?Because in my experience no one intentionally leaves them on .
  13. :) Thanks for sharing the story. That is one beautiful piece of pewter!
  14. If the dewclaws are not attached by bone .. it's basically a 'snip' of the skin, and a stitch :) Pups are usually done at a few days old - and it's odd the breeder left them on .
  15. Maybe get a referral to a dermatologist, before you start treatment/changing diet etc .
  16. Hmmm ..it has an awful lot to do with timing/body language /understanding your dog ...and not so much with the sound of your voice , IMO...esp. with a baby puppy :) A lot of the time with pups, if they are being silly ..I go "PSSST!", short & sharp. ..and then when they stop and look at me .. I divert them, or praise them ..or move off , depending . It's to get their attention, and then show them what is required :) I suggest you do lots of reading/asking . You can show your pup who the leader is (and train yourself to be leader) by changing the way you interact with your pup . It is a bit of work, and partner must also do it ..but after a few days , it should become a habit for everyone :) Nothing In Life Is Free. It will not solve all problems , but it should give the puppy every chance of getting plenty of attention /cuddles , and give you a dog who looks to you for direction ;) win/win !
  17. Agree :) puppy food for one meal ..and nice crunchy lamb flaps for the other ... plus maybe a whole egg a few times a week
  18. Unless your breed is one of the few in which rear dewclaws are a normal/desired thing .. then having them removed is a useful op . They do not serve a purpose..they need clipping a lot, and they can easily get hooked up /torn . It's odd they weren't removed when he was a baby ...
  19. Good news . I hope all goes well :)
  20. My cousin had an elderly boxer..and added a couple of small annoying young dogs - there was no real problem .all were desexed.
  21. Bolded bit mine . Carlo11 - you made Pearl smile again ..and you gave her love and care :)
  22. I would be getting some professional advice , as this habit ..like chasing lights or tail chasing, can be compulsive, and can get worse . Hopefully ,Lucy is just being inquisitive .... :) have you spoken with the breeder?
