  1. I'm abit slow this morning - took me awhile to work out what you were saying !! Thought you had lost your mind !!! :D I promise you, I'm not kidding Any dry kibble I've fed my dogs I have also nibbled on myself. I have never eaten canned dog food or raw dog food kangaroo meat, ever, but kibble is fair game . I think that Pal in cans would make me ;) . I have never, ever, fed canned food to my dogs. I love them; I'd go out and shoot a 'roo to feed them. I don't have a gun, so its going to be road kill, guys. Peter D
  2. I have tried it myself; it is not as tasty as other kibble I have eaten, but that is probably because it has less of that great flavour enhancer, salt. Peter D
  3. The other nice thing about Innova is that it uses human grade ingredients. i.e. they don't use mouldy, mouse dropping infiltrated floor sweepings Pity about the Pet's Paradise thing, though. Maybe someone should advise Innova that their chosen Aussie supplier is reported to supply puppy farm pups Peter D
  4. Hi Katey there is nothing wrong with you; you just loved your dog. That is a good thing I'm thinking that you are normal, and everyone else has a problem cheers, Peter D
  5. I had Hobbes' dew claws removed when he was 3.5 years old. One of the best things I did for him. Peter D
  6. It's never enough time to get over them, is it? All my dogs, I'll see them when I see them. Darien, Jenna will be there waiting for you. Cheers, Peter D
  7. Hi I'm sorry to hear about Buddy Take care, and be comforted that people are thinking about Buddy and about you Peter D
  8. Hi if you really want to save money, and your dog weighs 30kg or less... read this  Peter D

  11. Hi all Hobbes, my 25kg 'pit bull type dog' is lying at my feet as I type. He is back from the vet's this evening after having both his front dew claws surgically removed. He first ripped his front right dew claw off in September 2004 ; $320 of vet bills later, it grew back but it stuck out at a bit of an angle. Yesterday, he almost tore it off again, and it was hanging off at a 90 degree angle and bleeding a lot. After talking with my favourite vet, we agreed that he would just continue to re-injure his right dew claw and so I decided to have them both removed. Hobbes does (did ) use his dew claws a bit to manipulate bones when he was chewing, but I think that he will be better off without them. This was not a decision I took lightly; I think I love my Hobbes more than I love me. I think it was the right decision. The pros: he will never injure his dew claws again The cons: he will never be able to climb trees (which he never did anyway ). I think he will still be able to chew bones Peter D
  12. Hi girl, I'm sorry about your loss; I'm hoping your test comes back positive Peter D
  13. ok, I haven't washed Hobbes (pit bull type dog) in over 6 months, but when I do, it's with Martha Gardner's eucalyptus wool blend mix Lizzie and Lulu get washed more often as they are 'rollers' ; again, I use Martha Gardner's as it doesn't strip the oils from their fur, and they smell great afterwards. "We smell great, do we? We smell like effing gum trees, and dogs piss on trees!" Peter D
  14. Here's the contact details for the Northern Suburbs club Cheers, Peter D
  15. Hi people I used to wash Hobbes (my staffy/pit bull type dog) once a month; religiously, with Martha Gardners Eucalyptus wool mix . As Hobbes has very good etiquette, and doesn't roll in putrid stuff, I stopped washing him last spring. I groom him at least once a week with this rubber mitt with bumps on it (it is for grooming horses, but it works a treat on Hobbsie). He shines, and he doesn't smell (much ). Well, not enough to worry about. He just has a very mild doggy smell . Anyone else out there who doesn't have to wash their dog? Peter D
  16. Hi gemibabe, I just e-mailed it to you. Peter D
  17. Ricey can you PM me some details about anal glands please? Shelby thinks the carpet is better then the grass to drag her bum and it is making me feel ill. Hi gemibabe I will e-mail you . I have an instructional booklet on how to express anal glands that I put together for a brother of mine that owns a pug (pugs are renowned for anal problems ). Cheers, Peter D
  18. Bugger, Sue I don't think I have the necessary word skills to help you here . Your dog will tell you when it is time to go, and I think that releasing them from suffering is our last act of devotion to them. Only you and him know when it's time. Dogs don't live long enough, and humans live too long Peter D
  19. I'm going with showdog on this ; anyone who perforates the dog's eardrums with forceps or tweezers would have to be a klutz peter d
  20. I use Epi-Otic on my three; it works very well. The trick is to wet a couple of cotton wool balls fairly thoroughly and use them to clean the outer ear, and then press them gently into the ear canal. I then hold them in place by folding the dogs ear over them, and leave them to soak for a minute . You then let go of the dog's head and ear, and stand back . The head shaking that follows ejects the cotton wool balls and Epi-Otic combined with dissolved wax . Works like a charm . Oh yeah, repeat procedure for other ear, if your dog will let you near them. You can get a 500ml bottle of Epi-Otic from vet Products Direct for $16.85, or a 120ml bottle for $6.86. , Peter D
  21. I use Frontline on all 3 of my dogs. It has always worked well and I have never seen a flea on any of them I also like that Fontline gives protection against ticks (but only for 2 weeks ). Peter D
  22. I posted a thread a while back on how to radically reduce your pets annual medication costs. You can read the the thread here. Cheers, Peter D
  23. Hey quesada, this probably doesn't help but I feel your loss. Peter D
  24. I only ever lose my temper on Dogzonline ; I never lose my temper training Hobbes. He has frustrated me at times, and he knows that . I think now that I'm the one who stuffs things up with my input from my end of the lead. I'm getting better; in time, I will be perfectly trained and not a bad trainer Peter D
