  1. I was told over the phone by one of the companies (cant remember which one) that they do cover recurring conditions. I asked her to double check. Good job I did. They don't. The explanation I was given that, effectively, each year you are renewing your policy so the condition is then considered pre existing. Maybe that accounts for the price difference. Yep, that's the difference between Pet Plan and everyone else - Pet Plan covers conditions for more than a year and no one else does. That's not correct. RSPCA has covered a number of dogs I know with chronic/ recurring conditions for a number of years including my own dog over 2 policy years. However it is not policy maximum every year for that condition but rather a sublimit of value of year's coverage for the life of the condition. Eg if you have $12k illness cover under your policy for Year 1 then the maximum you will get back for that condition for the life of the dog is $12k even if it is spread over 4 years.
  2. Yes. My 4.5 year old went from this: Where he was so gentle to full on aerial play (both with front legs off the ground) with an 18 month old Dane within a few minutes.
  3. For future reference try fasting for 24 hours.
  4. The local one here has Monika's people there on the weekend with a few dogs for adoption.
  5. I know some companies recalled their products earlier this year though... Ideally Australian made would be best... Black Hawk is the only one I'm aware of made here but I'm not sold on it. TOTW and Canidae are far superior to Black Hawk in terms of quality IMO. If source of food is an issue then Ziwipeak might be the best option. There is another NZ I think - name escapes me. Check out the Natural Petstore.
  6. I don't think there is a discerning risk of poisoning with dry foods at all. With Orijien it was the irradiation which caused the issues for the cats.
  7. Orijien is not available here - it was withdrawn after the cat food was poisoning our cats and they withdrew the dog food to ensure no accidental consumption. Neither TOTW or Canidae are irradiated. I feed Canidae and am very happy with it. All dependent on what breed you have but personally owning a large breed, I don't even consider a aw diet until the dog has finished critical growth. I prefer a dry food as I know it is completely balanced.
  8. As Flashsmum said - some can be but others not. I have a 4 year old and he is very active. He can go for hours without stopping.
  9. Seriously? People would complain? I really would love to have the time and energy to get wound up over such insignificant moments in my life. Fair enough it was a stupid comment to make but in the scheme of things, it's not a big deal and certainly not something I'd want to know I caused someone to lose their job over.
  10. Good to hear Rocky is going well. Milo thankfully made a full recovery.
  11. Have feed the treat biscuits and they are happily eaten.
  12. Sheena - be realistic! The Black Hawk thread here has numerous people giving negative feedback!
  13. Long standing myth - this is not correct. The only 'person' that can determine liability is a court of competent jurisdiction. Could this depend upon what State the person resides in? I know of somebody who was in a spot of bother for having such a sign on their gate when an "incident" occurred. No - the Civil Liability legislation is similar across all states.
  14. Long standing myth - this is not correct. The only 'person' that can determine liability is a court of competent jurisdiction.
  15. Try Nepean Shores - not sure what dog inside policy is.
  16. I don't suggest the Sir Bob a Lot - my dog just took it, laid on his bed and chewed the plastic top off it.
  17. I see it as diffusing the situation. My dog and another used to spend a bit of time together - the other dog once intervened when my dog was getting hassled and inserted herself between Boo and the other dog. On another ocassion, a dog was bothering her at the beach and Boo went in and engaged it in play to diffuse the situation.
  18. The drug would be something like cyclosporine from memory.
  19. I've used both Steve at K9 Pro and Craig Murray and been very happy with them both.
  20. I have stopped going recently as we lost our instructor and they've struggled to replace her. As a result, people have been promoted to our class but no one promoted out so it's too big. Last session I went to was a nightmare. A mature instructor, could not hear a thing she said so relied on Chinese whisper type arrangement - waiting to see what the 2 people could hear her did. Probably was you'd take 3 steps and exercise changed. And it was the same basic heel pattern over and over. Then she wanted 20 plus talks to heel into the centre of the circle. My dog was bored stupid so stopped paying attention. I need a class which moves at a decent pace. He is well trained already but it is a good discipline for him plus our class is usually half obedience then half agility or rally o.
  21. Do you mean Immune Mediated Haemalytic Anaemia? (going by your thread name and not the symptoms). I had a Dane with IM polyarthritis who developed pancreatitis and IMHA was also found. Was your dog on cortisone?
  22. Danes (especially boys) should also wear tutus, antennas and fairy wings...
  23. I'm sorry for your loss. As a Dane owner - wow! 14 years - don't hear of many getting to that age. Make sure you go to greatdanes.net.au and put him in the double digits club.
  24. Yes I have used the policy frequently over 6 plus years. First dog had an illness over 2 years and current dog has claimed every year for 4 years for skin related matters. Never had one single issue with the multiples of claims which I have submitted. With respect I really think you are misunderstanding the chronic condition limit aspect. If your dog has an eye issue one year and claims the whole $12,000 available under the policy and develops an entirely separate eye issue the following year then it is not a chronic condition - they are 2 entirely separate conditions and thus should be covered. You need to be careful about putting out false information about the ways in which the policies work.
