  1. My black girl only flew home yesterday from being mated last Thursday and Friday. Obviously its far to early to tell if the matings took but she is a real live wire and very exciteable and ALWAYS hungry - well she is a Labrador. For the first time ever, last night she didnt eat all her dinner. So that leaves a couple of options, she could still be jet lagged from a one hour flight, she could have a bit of morning sickness in the afternoon or its just a coincidence. Not sure about indications of litter sizes but my other black girl for her first litter I was positive at 3 weeks and she had 11. For her second litter I think we were pretty certain by about 3 weeks and she had 10. But that's a normal litter for Labs. But keep your eyes open and I will keep you updated on our observations. A good longitutidinal study this.
  2. Obviously that wasnt a positive experience but would you mind sharing. That's how others learn and I am always interested in how we all approach the same topic from so many different angles.
  3. This topic seems to rotate around every two years or so. I remember having a litter 3 years ago and rasberry leaf tablets were out of favour. I see now that some are favouring them again. I have always used them from about 4 weeks till birth. Then when advised by a vet and read the 'anti' thread three years ago didnt - that is the only litter that we ever had problems with. Maybe just one big coincidence. Still think I'll go with the tablets again this time. But am always interested in others' views.
  4. Mating only done last week but Labs due 17 June
  5. We know, we know - just like ours In our house the dogs sleep on the lounge room floor when inside, they are NOT allowed on the lounge but do race in on sleep in mornings for a cuddle if one of us gets up and lets them in. But when you have 4 Labs and 3 Pharaohs all at home at once you have to say no. When its just the labs, it ok,
  6. Yes she did make it but was a bit of a snob did not even come to say hi to me . Or me! and we were closer So did either of you wander over and say hello to HER ?!!!!! fifi Oh! well perhaps not. I am naughty.
  7. Yes she did make it but was a bit of a snob did not even come to say hi to me . Or me! and we were closer
  8. If you get to Albury and want to stop there are two caravan parks. One is near the back of the showgrounds next to our dog club Albury Central Caravan Park Eames Street 02 60218420. the other is called Trek 21 or Trek 31 and is on the old Hume Highway or Wagga Road they call it. Both are happy to take dogs. What day are you passing through Albury? If you need anything and we are around we are only too happy to help.
  9. Thanks for all that information guys but after all that we cant make it. Off to Melbourne that week and then baby sitting the grandaughter that night. :D
  10. Mel it was a great show - you and Kerry did a wonderful job. We have booked our cabin for next year already and will certainly be back
  11. Thanks Kezzzza, can also tell me the dates of the show and the location. O'm dumb I know but dont have the VIC journal.
  12. We had a great weekend. Great grounds, absolutely beautiful spot, with fantastic accommodation and the chance to catch up with lots of old friends. And we got to meet Poodlefan.
  13. ASk Ceilidh about when the customer kept ringing her up to have her long haired Labrador groomed and trimmed up. In the end she wouldnt believe there was no such thing so Ceilidh gave her a quote of some humungus $$$. She never rang back
  14. Love it - it has been around for years and I have used it for everything. But if its just to stop dogs from re-visiting a certain spot on the carpet or tiles etc I use Nil Odor - just remember you only need one or two drops, if you can smell it, you have used too much
  15. Well just as a point of interest. If the pups are Labrador X Labrador Retriever - wouldnt that just make them Labradors? I saw an add in our paper yesterday for a 'breeding pair' of Paps - raved about them stated clearly they were a breeding pair and then closed add with 'no papers'
  16. Heard them all 30 years ago, hear them now. Some things never change.
  17. I posted in general discussions concerning an add in our local paper for a black and gold lab. Several DOLers responded with the option to look at a certain link which I am sure we have all seen before. SO I thought I would ask the other Lab breeders - have they ever bred, or seen someone else breed a mismarked Lab like the add or the link refers to?
  18. Yes have seen that site before and it is very interesting and while I agree that at least they are trying to find the dog a more suitable home it undermines the responsible breeders. No Newfsie, not a typo this time - I know our local rag is just that, a rag, but this time that's what the advertiser wrote.
  19. I make it clear to all our puppy buyers that if thier circumstances change was expect them to approach us first and we will take the puppy back. In fact we did just that last year and I was overwhelmingly supported by other breeders here on DOL for our actions. So I know that many many breeders do this, perhaps we just dont advertise it. I should also add that in some cases there may be extenuating circumstances where a breeder is not in a position to do so. While I was in hospital having a total knee replacement a puppy buyer who was in Perth rang to see if we would like our black girl back. At the time, taking a puppy back was the last thing on my mind or OH's, luckily Sandgrubber had a beautiful loving home lined up for her just incase.
  20. an add in our local paper today offering a black and gold lab, with papers - free to a good home but recommending a farmlet or acreage. Ghee, wonder if that's to accommodate the kelpie in this purebred lab! Sorry but I just go so mad at this add.
  21. I was wondering if anyone was going to the Gundog Training Day onf Sudnay 7 March at Myrniong? I would like some more information and havent been able to get replies from any of the contacts listed. Any info would be appreciated
