  1. Taking aside the dog-inexperience: what's wrong with taking a mature dog home from the pound?! Your comment about bringing home potential 'problems/illnesses' makes it sound like you should avoid pounds all together! Plenty of amazing, wonderful (and healthy!) mature dogs that need homes in pounds, so with advice and a steep learning curve there's nothing wrong with it!
  2. That is good news! Add the dates of the doctor visits and the costs of the treatment and xrays to your file against this woman!
  3. Thank you Anne and others who have offered financial help you are all amazing My vet on hearing that this woman has refused to pay did not charge me for the visit today. I have a wonderful friend who is a nurse at my vets and will give Maddie any out of hours care she needs so fingers crossed there are no major complications we should be ok. How nice of your vet to not charge you since the stupid woman is refusing to pay additional costs, and how lovely of fellow DOLers to offer assistance! :) You guys rock! HazyWal hope your girl feels better soon!
  4. Reminds me of a potential home for a rescue dog for a house on a couple of acres on the outskirts of Sydney. I did the house inspection at night and was taken out back to meet their current dog. I wasn't that impressed when I asked about the missing kennel and they told me that she just slept on the rug by the back door, and when mentioned that they would need to provide something more substantial for the younger pup they were considering they seemed to dismiss this because 'she'll be right' and there was a boundary fence on the property so it was all good. Anyway it wasn't a very positive meeting and even more so when I went around the house to realise that there was absolutely no fence between the road and their property, and their current dog was free to roam everywhere, except chose to hangout by the back door and not being let inside.
  5. Poor you and your dogs for having to go through that!! How unpleasant! Glad to hear your girl is back home with you, and Stan is back to his usual self. Also VERY glad to hear that the attacking-dogs-owner paid the vet bill without any hassle..that's the VERY LEAST that she should be doing!! What about your potential injuries?!
  6. Yes! That's the dog I was referring to.... git'it!
  7. That video seems like an EXACT replica of presentation a dog did on a TV show in the States. I can't find the link but I remember that dog being much tidier in it's moves and more precise...so Omar's training doesn't make the cut for me in this instance.
  8. What breeds of dogs were they? I don't understand this logic... couldn't the owner come back and create a fuss saying you've "stolen" their dog and are touching 'their property' or something? Seems dubious.
  9. What a bizarre request! Haha! (I would totally take photos for you if I had easy access to dogs atm).
  10. That is CRAZY!!!! How do they monitor all those dogs at once to step in if they need to break up a scuffle?! Yeesh! I guess those dogs are legit working dogs and not show dogs otherwise they'd have nicks and scars all over them...?
  11. Wouldn't the dogs at the top of the pecking order finish their food and then go scout out what's in the other dogs' bowl because they're entitled to it? (ie. usually the pack leader eats first and then when it's done, THEN the rest of the pack take turns in order)
  12. I wonder if she changes the orders of the names slightly each feed... very impressive!
  13. Haha..cute vids! But WHY on earth would you go for a cactus!
  14. You've worded my thoughts! (Although we don't know if there was additional back story)
  15. Just saw this article...Absolutely horrible!! :( Certainly a reason to NOT be proactive in approaching your local council to do the right thing. And to think that the PTS date was brought foward at the last min... Disgusting. I wonder if there is more to the story... and whether the owners would have won their case if they had more money behind them.
  16. I know you're joking...but you are talking about a dog right? What breed are they? How old's the boy?
  17. Great suggestion. So sorry to hear for your loss!
  18. Just because a person has bought a pet dog that isn't correctly marked doesn't mean that they may not want a cartoon of their pet as a bit of fun.
  19. In all the various breeds, sizes, mixes, energy levels that I've fostered through rescue...I've only had one injury where the nail had to be snipped (ouch!). Never even noticed if any dogs didn't have them.
  20. Just watch out for your back when the other dog is latched on so hard you end up trying to haul 2 dogs up into the air...and then you need to keep holding them up until one gives up.
  21. Because the ignorant masses follow lead without researching and are likely to crossbred for the money and not place precedence on finding perfect homes.
  22. Exactly. I still pertain that the man in that situation is an idiot, and the other handler directing him to dominate the dog by 'hold his neck down' and 'stare at him in the eyes' is also not doing a good job. How many throw downs did that guy attempt whilst the dog maneuvered out (probably as he's been trained to do)? Poor form.
