  1. It really depends on the circumstances. I’ve had animals of my own PTS and held countless others without sedation and it’s been very peaceful. My Burmese girl was a different story as she’d been very ill and had become sensitised to having needles. I gave her a sedative injection at home and whilst it really knocked her it was still not enough and just holding her vein up caused great distress. I insisted on IM sedation and then PTS once she was completely under via the heart. Sounds horrible but it wasn’t. With a 4 week pup who struggled - we sedated him with gas and then PTS similarly. Every case is different.
  2. Vet. They are too young to mess around with.
  3. I want the yacht damn it @Maddy No dog rego fees for a start!!!
  4. I agree @Maddy The same expectation applies to breeders and it's not a reasonable one. I'm not talking LIVING off the proceeds but nothing wrong with a little profit here and there to invest in your future dogs. Honestly the -oodle breeders charging $3K plus must think we are absolute idiots.
  5. It’s a funny thing. I reply politely to EVERY single enquiry I get - short, rude or detailed - and the vast majority never even thank me for my response. It definitely goes both ways!!!!
  6. In response to the OP...something I do as a breeder is evaluate the types of emails I’m receiving and then adjust my website info accordingly. Because often it suggests that my website is not worded correctly or I’m not supplying enough information in the right place. For instance, since I included a sentence about “please feel free to enquire about price but please don’t attempt to negotiate” and then listed all the expenses I encounter, I have never had someone try to negotiate on price. Same with timing of litters, time expected for an email reply (eg we work so we can afford to breed and compete). Just a thought
  7. If I had a dog with diagnosed issues/pain I would definitely explore vet based options as well.
  8. All 3 of my dogs are on it as a preventative. Ages 3 years, 7 years and 11.5 and all very active/competing. It’s one of the better ones out there. I also add Omega oils and a probiotic to every meal. As recommended by US dog sports vet Dr Chris Zink.
  9. Yes exactly right! I don’t think soaked dry food is very palatable haha so I add a little water, stir it through and feed. I also add omega 3 oils, 4-cyte for joint health and probiotics for gut health. Standard for all my dogs.
  10. Yes Fresh Mix is what I use. I’ve done so much research on this. Never had a problem in 11.5 years. I also add a spoon of yoghurt to taste plus water to ensure Zig gets plenty of water. I keep a very close eye on his peeing habits too!
  11. It's really important to check the ingredients of the dry food you are feeding - some have anchovies, brewers yeast etc all of which are high in purines.
  12. Artemis dry food, raw egg from my chooks, chicken frames is the usual diet. The occasional turkey wing. Training treats include tinned salmon (not tuna or sardines), cheese, 4 legs chicken varieties. Never ever liver or anchovy or anything high purines.
  13. The advice you have received from Dogs QLD is correct. Only ANKC pedigreed dogs are allowed to participate in ANKC conformation shows. Doesn’t stop you from competing from many dog sports as an Associate though - except for breed specific sports such as retrieving or field trials.
  14. Not bad for 11 years! Cleverly shot at Albert Park, not photoshopped!
  15. Firstly a huge shout out to @Troy at Dogzonline for providing FREE hosting for our Agility Nationals 2018 website. I have been working flat out maintaining this and it's such an easy format to work with. I use it for my own prefix website as well. http://www.agilitynationals2018.com.au/default.asp For anyone who is interested, you are welcome to attend next week from Wednesday to Sunday at KCC Park. This is a once in 10 year event for Victoria to host - more than 500 handlers, 700 dogs and 6500 entries!!! See the best dogs in the country competing for title of National Champion. All the details are on the website. And check out our FB page, like it, tell us you're coming and share. We'd love it if you could use the hashtags #agilitynationals #eukanubaanz https://www.facebook.com/AgilityNationals2018Victoria/
  16. That’s why I was wondering if it’s the way it’s been stored. Although if there were random cases popping up vets might assume it was genetic. Not often breeders stay in close touch with their puppy people like I do.
  17. I had a 4 week old pup euthanised after being diagnosed with congenital (ie developmental) mega and PRAA. Awful, awful experience. Normally it’s genetic or congenital but can be caused by toxins such as lead or botulism. I hope they find the cause ASAP...the food is not the confirmed source only a suspicion.
  18. I got a cleaner. She’s awesome. Worth her weight in gold. And really great with the dogs
  19. Here you go: http://www.k9softdogcrates.com.au/index.php?p=products&sp=crate_carry_bag
  20. That’s just so so heartbreaking I’m really sorry @westiemum , your sweet girl will be dearly missed.
  21. Yes plenty of CKCS crosses and BYB dogs around particularly because they've been slammed for health reasons and the belief is that a cross will fix any health issues. I don't see many nicely bred Cavs around really.
  22. I train off leash or using a flat collar and loose leash if I need to control access to the environment. I don't use it as a correction. As the great Bob Bailey says about how training sessions should be carried out....Think. Plan. Do. Review. That means, knowing what you've got, what you want and how you're going to get there. Video. Look at your timing. Note take. Set a timer. 2-3 min of awesome training is 100 times better than 10 minutes of slog. Split. Don't lump. Find the joy. Evaluate your dog. If you are not BOTH having fun, stop and re-set.
  23. Dalmatians are wonderful but can be very high energy. My Ziggy is a cracker. 11 years old and getting ready for his 3rd Agility Nationals. Owes me nothing. Would suggest Lukias Dalmatians as a good start. My breeders have long since retired unfortunately.
