Question For If One Day I Decide To Rescue A Dog
Mags replied to Isabel964's topic in General Dog Discussion
Definitely not all rescues are like this. We currently have two rescue dogs a tiny boy that came from our vet and a grey. Both dogs are really good with our cats and are also good with other dogs and love people. Both of these dogs have joined us in the last 8 mths. From your description I would think a rescue grey might be the perfect dog for you. Our grey came from Greyhound rescue and they were so very helpful and really wanted to make sure we (and our other animals) were a good match. Also if you have a preference for a particular breed don't forget the breed rescues - they can also be wonderful at helping you find a new family member. When the time is right, and I hope that is no time soon, I hope you have a much better experience than when you last tried to rescue. -
You should be able to use a C3 if you choose. Your dog, your decision and also totally inline with the AVA vaccination protocol. We have a great relationship with our vets and discuss things to ensure the best outcome for our animals however I am shocked that a vet nurse would question your decision.

We have always found an older dog helping the puppy learn house rules is very helpful not something to be concerned about. It does not negate the need to have one on one time with the puppy though. If they are so time poor that they have not spent time with the puppy then a puppy was probably not the best choice but given they have already made it they can of course work with it. Does their lab have good manners, walks well on a lead, recalls, sits when asked, stays etc. Because if it does they can use the older dog to model acceptable behaviour for the puppy. But it will take time and it will take work. What are they doing to socialise the puppy to other people and other dogs?

Advice Needed (changing An Adult/adoptee Dogs Name)
Mags replied to Kazhak's topic in General Dog Discussion
We gave our grey a new name the day she came home - she didn't seem to respond to the name she came with - my hubby and I were talking whilst she ambled around the yard and I suggested a couple of possible names and she seemed to answer to one of them immediately so Katie she became. Goodluck finding a name that both you and your dog like. -
Just checked out the puppy album. Gee they seem to be growing quickly. Lovely puppies.

Can certainly have one in and one out. Bertie sleeps in his crate at night (puts himself to bed when its time) and Katie sleeps on her bed as she stays put (doesn't want her blankie to come off).

Thinking of you and the girls - glad someone was with you getting the car sorted.

Horrible to say but if you don't use snail bait and the vet thinks this is the cause you probably need to report his death to the police. Mum and Dad lost their beautiful BC to baiting a few years back and it turned out he wasn't the only one that the mongrels killed their neighbours lost dogs too as did many other people in the district. It happened right before school hols and the police weren't surprised as apparently it happens all too often. Given the timing with proximity to school hols thought I should just mention it. Really sorry don't want to make things worse for you.

Love the pics of the puppies especially happy tails - what a beautiful baby she is.

Oh geez we haven't had anyone try and dig up one of our dear departed - that would be terrible. But we do have partners in crime. When Katie, grey, first came a few months back she use to collect treasures and put them on or around her bed - no problem with that. As you could always find anything she had taken. Now she takes things and is just as likely to trash them with the help of tiny Bertie. She has also dug up a big section of the yard as she has to have a fresh nest every day and also clearly has a plan to dig to China as she has started a very deep narrow hole - can't quite work out what its for yet. Bertie occasionally helps with the digging but he has little impact compared to Katie's long legs when she gets going. We now have dust storms every time we get a breeze Love the dogs but hope they (well Katie mainly) gets out of this trashing/digging stage soon.

So very very sorry to hear of your loss. Hope you and the girls are OK and you manage to find out what happened.

She is a bit of a standout at this age isn't she eyes just get drawn to her And a blue fawn and white ooh love this colour in greys just beautiful. But then a beautiful grey looks good in any colour.

So very sorry to hear of the loss of your heart dog. Run free again beautiful girl.
-
Congratulations beautiful bubs. Hope Fern is healing well and not experiencing too much discomfort.

As others have said sometimes acute renal failure can occur without any of the normal symptoms so don't beat yourself up. Really very sorry to hear about your girl, RIP Isabella.

Our 4 kg Pap x easily outwalks our grey and me - he is always disgusted when we turn for home even though he has to trot along whilst we walk just to keep up. You might find the little one wants to go way further than you.

Don't give up we got a rescue at Christmas that we had great trouble getting to eat kibble or raw and he was in very poor body and coat condition so not eating was a big worry. As he had been some idiots handbag dog we assumed he was use to getting human food but even that was a problem as he only wanted food if someone was handfeeding him and even then would not eat enough. Very quickly crate trained him and at meal times put him and his food in the crate and left him. His crate is his personal space and no one else gets access to it. He now eats whatever we give him and dances around like a loon at meal time waiting for his food will even top up out of our grey's bowl if she leaves anything and she only ever leaves a few bits of kibble. He also asks to go in his crate if he wants some space away from the others.

I was thinking grey size lol

Yeap already do share with the dogs and the cats like it too - but only strawberry and vanilla not the choc or rum & raisin the OH eats.

Why Do A Lot Of Ppl Feel It's Ok For Pet Shops To Sell .....
Mags replied to Chezy's topic in General Dog Discussion
I buy my pet supplies from stores that doesn't sell any live animals for the same reasons you have stated. -
Oh geez that's a worry - lucky for the dog the cat was hitting claws in or he could of lost an eye. Some people do my head imagine videoing it rather than stopping it.
-
I don't see what you did as going to crazy levels at all. Its what we do for our animals - had to do it for the cats to get there supplies of RC was OK with dog food. Drove around all the local petfood suppliers looking for food. Found a place that had a few 4kg bags of RC Maine Coon and Babycat and bought what they had - the guy that owned the place was shocked that I would buy that much food at one time (have to tell you MC's eat lots of food especially growing kittens and we have a litter here at the moment). Given RC's problems I took what I could when I had the oppurtunity and a friend is bringing a couple of breeder bags down from Qld with her which will hopefully get us through.

Whippet And Bunny Have Best Friend Playtime...
Mags replied to Merrirose's topic in General Dog Discussion
Amazing watching Flop chase Coco thanks for sharing -
What concerned me about the child jumping on the lab was I thought the child belonged to the vet that was now caring for the poor boy. So this will be ongoing behaviou from the child I imagine.

What lovely pics of a happy well adjusted puppy who is clearly loved.
