  1. Agree with this. Having had an experience where an airline lost a kitten and then tried to blame his breeder for not putting him on a flight I can't say I'm surprised. Most movements are fine some aren't and the rudeness and blame shifting when it goes wrong are unbelievable. A quick phone call to the person on the receiving end or yourself from Dogtainers explaining a flight was missed and there would be a delay should have been what you received - not the rudeness that occurred when you were forced to go looking for a missing puppy. Goodluck getting an appropriate response from head office.
  2. Maddie sounds like a very sweet girl you have every right to be very proud of her. So nice that this family's healing could start just a little sooner because of her.
  3. Hope it all goes well - lovely enclosure and will give the kids something to think about. I love meerkats but they aren't necessarily all sweetness and light so I hope they don't end up traumatising the kids with an outbreak of violence.
  4. It seemed to me when we were growing up, and I'm 50, everyone had dogs (and other pets for that matter) and we were trained early never to approach a dog we didn't know, don't ever pat someone else's dog without permission. Now part of that was about the risk of hydatids & keeping us safe from dog bites I'm sure but it was also about having manners and treating the dogs and their owners with respect. These days how often do you see small children, encouraged by their parents I might add, run up to strange dogs flapping hands around or poking or slapping at them with the toy in their hand or .... and then run off squealing. My dogs try and ignore them as they are more interested in their walk but people go on about muzzled greys scaring people - I walk a muzzled grey and people are still happy to have their children run up to her squealing and poking (no idea of how to pat a dog)and then run off. Doesn't seem to occur to the parent to calmly walk over to us with their child and ask if its OK to pat my dogs. Nor does it seem to occur to the parent that I might not be interested in what their child wants and I might prefer that they didn't pat my dogs. I do wonder how many bites are caused by a total disconnect between people and companion animals that we didn't see back then. Though I do know that where I grew up dog or people aggressive behaviour would not have been tolerated.
  5. Me too as this you would think is the comparison that needs to be made if you want to claim puppy farmed dogs do not make good companions compared to those raised by reputable breeders.
  6. Glad you managed to get him some relief the poor boy
  7. I still haven't come to terms with this statement above given it has been acknowledged most of the sight hounds in the survey were greys. So greyhounds now are a good representive sample of all sight hounds and only non racing greys were surveyed? or no-one bothered to find out whether the greys surveyed were ex racers as the vast majority of pet greys are but we will then make the assumption that they aren't ex racers as it suits our "research" better. Given the accuracy of this statement, and we are only hearing about sight hounds (what assumptions are being made about other groups, I would have to say I am concerned about the validity of anything that comes out of this survey.
  8. Great photos thanks for sharing.
  9. Might be more effective to ask why greyhounds tend to be timid instead then. ;) If that's what the survey shows and is what you're basing the question on. Then shouldn't you say greys are timid not sighthounds as your survey looks at one breed not the whole group. And were the greys all rescues? Because our grey Katie some people would call timid - I would call her nervous and for justifable reason - she has had bad stuff done to her in her life she is scared of hands and absolutely terrified of hands holding anything. She is also very scared of confined places. Over the months we have had her she is starting to realise that she won't be hurt here and is loved and safe and is becoming a happy, fun loving loon. She is gentle and sweet with everyone regardless of spp and size. If you only have rescue greys in your survey they could be carrying a lot of baggage. Which says nothing about the breed and alot about how some greys are treated. Very, very different to most purebreds and I am sure very different to greys that have been loved and cared for their entire lives.
  10. Nutrience Active - only dog food our tiny dog will eat and has helped him get back to an ideal weight. Just about to change to Nutrience Original and will see how we go. Katie fav is stolen RC cat bikkies
  11. Rozzie really sorry to hear what happened to your dogs and the eagle.
  12. The issue I have with 1080 programs is they aren't target specific. And as for humane killing the most humane way of disposing of ferals I know is with a rifle in the hands of a skilled person however many people do not like that idea either and it is becoming harder and harder to find people that are prepared to do the job this way because of the adverse press that it gets. Doggers use to make a good living though it was a hard life but think of the out cry if people started trapping again. Much easier and cheaper to throw baits out and kill all and sundry. Really do not know what people expect - they don't want ferals running around killing things but they don't want to do anything about it either. And its not like the population of ferals is finite idiots continue to add to it with their dumping of unwanted pets and allowing their pets to wander.
  13. Well we have 2 dogs here at the moment - a tiny Pap x Pom (my OH's rescue) and a grey (mine) but both dogs are ours so I don't care what other people think.
  14. Hmmm ... Katie helps us do things, loves walks, has learnt to love cuddles and being groomed. She was very scared of hands when she came and has gradually come to realise that she is safe here and has gradually become happier and happier. Is a very tolerant sweet girl who is good with our cats and tiny dog. I certainly would never call her boring, she loves playing, dances around like a loon when I get home from work, is always busy (or asleep lol)and collects treasures everyday and puts them safely on her bed including a big whole pumpkin - still have no idea how she carried it to her bed for safe keeping lol. Trying to remember back when she first came home - overwhelmed and scared would be my description of her not sure about what life held so subdued. Her wonderful personality didn't really start to shine through for all to see until she knew she was secure and loved here, though she was always a sweet gentle girl. Took ages for her to be confident enough to willingly get in the car to go places as she seemed to think we would leave her somewhere. She has now learnt sit and down and is nolonger scared in confined spaces and her recall is getting better and better. You have to remember that the dog/s you saw may have always lived in a kennel and doesn't know you at all. Then again I don't know what you are expecting and perhaps another breed would suit you better at this stage in your life.
  15. So glad she is OK. What a terrifying experience for all of you. Glad you weren't by yourself when it happened.
  16. Lovely to see the special boy has his own thread and lucky you to have been trusted to have such a special little man join your family. Thank you for sharing him with us. Oberon was a very cute puppy too.
  17. Thanks for the link - much appreciated. Will ask in there. And thank you to all that have answered much appreciated.
  18. So very sorry to hear it is PKD - hope his symptoms can be kept under control and he lives a long happy life.
  19. They live in NSW but are currently away in Qld for a week on hols. Will check to see if they are home in time to go to the Siberian specialty at Erskine Park thank you for that. I did search for a general Sibe thread before posting here and couldn't find one but I don't think the search ftn was working all that well it couldn't even find this thread after I posted it.
  20. Thanks for sharing - great ad hope it helps find a few more greys homes. Wish the NSW govt would do something about the muzzle laws so many people have a poor impression of greys because they only ever see them out in a muzzle.
  21. Hi, I have a friend whose much loved girl died a whilst back after a long and full life and she and her family are finally ready to look for another puppy to join their family. The Husky they had was a wonderful dog who was gentle and caring for all she meet including their children, 3 under 10 who have all grown up with cats and dogs and are well behaved with animals, and cats (the cats are indoor/enclosure only). They are nice people and the dog will be well cared for and they will put the work in that is needed for a Husky. They are not expecting or wanting to replace their girl, they would like another dog to join their family. Can anyone recommend a breeder that might have a puppy that would suit their family.
  22. Hope they can get to the bottom of it - poor guy sounds very uncomfortable.
  23. This Goodluck with your puppy search, the right breeder is out there sometimes it just takes a bit of looking.
