Too me it sounds like he doesn't understand that heel off lead is the same as heel on lead. As suggested go back to basics and start slowly like you are training the heel again (which you are) it's a different exercise to the dog so needs to be treated as such. The good news is he will pick it up quickly I had the opposite problem, I trained everything off lead so when we attempted doing a CCD trial I didn't know what to do!! My signals were a mess and I couldn't figure out what to do with the damn lead!

Why Do People Feel That A Tug Game
Sayreovi replied to dasha's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't get it either and some people don't understand that my dog likes food better than tugging. It used to happen alot in flyball as majority of dogs return for a toy or a combination whereas both my dogs always did it for food (or in Darcys case a big hug and a "good boy" crooned at him :p) My young girl is the only one who readily tugs like a mad dog so I use that as a reward but she also works just as hard with food or just for praise. -
I tend to focus on one thing at a time in regards to competing, I have three dogs at very different levels of different sports so have found it easy to juggle and prioritise. One is pretty much retired from everything though he is still trained cause he is just so fun to train, another does flyball and agility and my youngest is only doing foundation agility, flyball and I've trialled her in obedience. I dabble in retrieving but not serious enough to start competing yet. I train alot and have trained to a fairly high level in the three main sports but rarely trial due to my nerves which kinda sucks Agility and flyball with be my main focus though and given Jovi loving doing foundation agility at the moment I think agility will be our main sport together and Darcy will come along for the ride as he is happy doing whatever I want to do.

I have, and I've seen a few in catalogues that say Prefix "Registration Pending", I am in Victoria though so unsure as too whether WA allows it or not.

I started with my current young dog as soon as I got her (I never did any hind end stuff with my older two) I did phone book work, ladder work and having a board for her to do 2o2o. The last one especially I found really helps as I can now stand a few metres away in front of it and send her, so she has to go to the board spin around and put her back feet on it only.

We had our first flyball comp in years today and Darcy ran extremely well all morning!! (I had to leave during lunch to go to work ) The only fault that happened is when I suddenly changed him from starter dog to the middle (which he hates) so he was distracted and caught sight of a little fluffy dog running in the other lane so went and said hello! Apart from that he didn't put a foot wrong even when the team ended up having to jump 14 inches.......not bad for a dog who has probably done only 3-4 training sessions in the last year and a half Owner needs a bit of a talking too about the crappy starting times though!

How disappointing, that even with sponsorship to cover expenses (which is the only reason classes aren't held) that they still won't do it?! Really frustrating!

Thanks! We have our first session this Wednesday, we've done a fair bit of foundation work already so we might be going over things we've already done but it will be a new environment so will be good for us :D -
Was definately nice to see it more supported in the Group 3 ring as well, 5 dogs for Friday and Saturday and 4 dogs for Sunday. There was more competition in the neuter in group line up then there was in the baby, minor, and puppy line up so all things considering it was a great turn out!!

Well done. How many dogs were assessed? Did everyone get through? I was lucky when I did it - only 12 out of 18 pitched up for the assessment and everyone got passed. I think this time they were only had 10 spots open so I don't think everyone will go through as there were a fair few dogs there :D Murve: definately email, as they said you should get an email Friday afternoon at the latest -

Thanks Very pleased as there was alot of good dogs there last night! She was very focused even though we were inside and in a horse arena with alot of other dogs and people, and what pleased me more is she actually went into drive there as soon as I asked :D -
Most judges do about 40 dogs per hour, some do less and others can do it quicker though.
-
I don't think there was many than that last year? It's always a very small show. For some reason last year felt bigger? Or maybe I wasn't paying attention? LOL We will be there anyway, with 3 Tollers :D
-
That would be great if you could Murve! 400 for a whole show? Surely not?
-
Congrats on all the passes this weekend guys!!

Pretty sure you are at Frankston yeah? If so I am the lady with the Tollers (Jovi and Darcy) that do a bit of everything Personally I would stop running her in the team and go back to basics for awhile. She needs to be reinforced with what to do outside the team environment where it's less distracting and once she is back to doing full runs consistently, test her in the team again. Too me she sounds as if she has gotten to the stage where it's not rewarding enough for her to do what you want her to do, so she is now making it up to make it more fun! What reward are you using? For one of mine when he was competing he got bits of dim sims as a reward, he never got it anywhere else and he adores them so they are an awesome occasional treat. My other two love roast chicken and cheese so that's what they will get when we compete.

Well now I am unsure what too think, she is back to her usual self now? I've noted down the date and period it went for and hopefully will see if there will be a pattern in the future!!
