  1. so now we should not show in case there is something happening on the same ground days later, phfftt. Hahaha I agree Rebanne, sorry but that is a pathetic excuse blaming bitches being on the ground several days earlier! There is usually a bitch in season (or a dozen of them! ;)) at every show, so unless this happens at every single training session than it's not the smells that are the problem.......
  2. Can anyone tell me what the breakdown is for the Sunday show? I didn't receive my Sunday numbers
  3. It is quite easy to see why the dog world can never be united in any subject other than ones' own self interest when comments are made that show an obvious disregard for fellow exhibitors. I can only begin to imagine the uproar if I took my full in season bitch onto a ground being used for obedience etc. Apart from the obvious problems caused by both actions I would like to think that we would all show some consideration to fellow dog people. Then maybe Ive' been bought up wrong. Well at the Royals the obedience/agility dogs are usually seated where the conformation dogs were in the previous days and I saw people toilet their dogs in the obedience area, they actually moved the fencing put there to stop people doing so (some where in season too)........I never read about any uproar or bitching from triallers about lack of consideration from exhibitors. The only people who seem to whinge about bitches in season are exhibitors themselves. I showed my bitch at this years Royal, I very rarely get to attend the Royal so wanted to go this year, my bitch happened to come into season the week before we were meant to show. I let everyone know around me she was in season and guess what? Everyone was fine with it and no dogs carried on like pork chops. I would still like to know why people want to ban the one thing that shows that a bitch is entire and able to be bred when the whole point behind showing is too "better the breed"?
  4. I do but each to their own, I don't consider trotting around the ring and standing while a judge goes over them on equal footing to doing a long heel pattern and scent discrimination exercises. Anyway isn't showing about entire dogs and bitches? Seems a bit ironic to ban something that distinguishes an entire bitch from a desexed bitch.
  5. I have and will do so again, until they make rules against it then bitches in season will be shown whether people agree with it or not. Dogs in the obedience ring have to perform off lead and do complex exercises sometimes up to 10 minutes, with showing "your" time lasts about a minute.
  6. Mine are naked at home. They play too rough and tumble and always go for the neck and ears to cause concern if I wasn't home. I will say honestly though as much as it would kill me I would much rather have them alive and living with someone else then dead.
  7. I agree, for me personally once I title my girl I will rarely show, would much rather focus time and energy on a sport where what titles I achieve won't actually be looked down on and thought as 'easy' just because of the breed I own
  8. Gees that's disappointing EF I hear so many Vic people complain that the neuter class isn't offered more & here is a perfect opportunity to enter the class & you end up with such a poor entry. What a shame for the Club. I agree and it's unfortunate as other clubs might not be so inclined too offer it now I entered even though I will probably not be going, but I wanted to support the class.
  9. Now those are amazing contacts! Gotta love the way running contacts look when done correctly
  10. My pack of three, from left to right is Jovi (1), Darcy (6) and Nova (8). Is a fairly recent photo too, was taken a few weeks ago at Buchan Caves (in the dogs allowed area ;))
  11. 3 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, 2 males (6 & 9 years old) and a year old female.
  12. Was thinking the same thing Not much point in having a super fast dog if they can potentially hurt themselves by leaping off the top of the walk, aframe and seesaw! Was amazingly fast though for a GSP!
  13. Except, that dogs are meant to be judged against the standard first and then against other dogs.....if a judge decides that a dog is close enough to the standard that it's too be awarded then it gets awarded. It is up to the judge to nil award if the dog isn't good enough! Really this is an argument that will never have an answer to suit everyone and it really is starting to get annoying being told over and over again how my dogs title is easy and worthless.......we put in the same amount of work as everyone else, pay the same fee, and all for the judges opinion. No wonder you see a rare breed title and then disappear altogether when attitudes like this are so common!
  14. http://www.cruisingcanines.com.au/ This is where I am getting my trailer from when I get around too it!
  15. I've always had boys and only got my first girl last year.....and I don't know what took me so long!! She is an awesome little girl, very intense, mature and focussed. She has learnt everything so much quicker than the boys, who I've had to wait for them to actually grow a brain Loves her cuddles so I haven't found her less affectionate but her dad is the biggest sook so maybe she got alot of it from him? She sleeps on my bed and apart from when it's really hot she is curled up against me, and it's not for lack of room as it's a queen bed! Even her seasons have been easy to deal with and it's one thing I was worried about most! My next pup will be a girl and if all things go to plan it will be a pup from my girl :p
  16. Having great success with my foundation training with Jovi. I am currently nearing the end of teaching her the weavers and noticing her particular style of weaving is completely different to my other two.....I don't know the technical names but she does the hopping motion, Darcy does the stepping and Nova the wrapping around poles. The first two were taught with the same method and while I like the look of the stepping weave, given she is little she has to resort to hopping....can't help but laugh as she tries her hardest to get through quick! Poor Nova was my starter dog and got taught with the push pull method so he doesn't really weave as much as destroys the poles getting through them Just got to get her to do her contacts now, we have a 2o2o offered on flat boards but haven't moved up to equipement yet so that is exciting!
  17. While I sort of agree that it will be hard for the rarer breeds to get a grand, it's not impossible. I have a breed where I am usually the only entry and not a really glamourous looking breed in a very hard group. However Tollers elsewhere have done some nice wins, as they are good enough to do so. There is a couple in SA and in NSW that are doing alot of consistent in group and in show wins because they are excellent examples of the breed. One yesterday took out RuIS in NSW after beating 15 (I think) Tollers at a yearly get together. These few are very deserving of the title and will get it. Not every dog of every breed is so deserving, I will say honestly that mine at the moment will never get a grand champion title, they are nice dogs and worthy of a champion title but certainly not good enough to crack the big one.
  18. Mmm I might make the trip, depends on how well the start of the year goes next year!!
  19. I would set the box without the ball and get him confident about setting the box off without something flying at his face Get him to progress slowly, with the box set just ask him to put a paw or two on it, just enough to set it off and reward massively!! Work him slowly up to doing his turns (without the ball) on a set box so he gets used to the noise when he is on the box. How is he with catching a ball usually? Personally I would be treating them as two different exercises and not combining them until he can do both easily and confidently. Good luck.
  20. Sorry I won't be able to send through results as I don't have a number to send them too..... (forgot about that part ) will post them if not already done tomorrow night
  21. Bugger all you people being right She came into season today, and was getting more and more reactive to other dogs as the weeks progressed as well. So looks like I will have a few signs before she does.......still holding out for 10 months in between though, this 6 month cycle sucks :p
  22. As much as I would like to say I wouldn't, I know I would With the breeds I've wanted to own I would probably ever get to own one so would like to get what I am after physically/mentally as well as being the colour I've wanted for years! Would be willing to wait along time as well. Agreed
  23. Will have to remember that for when I next have a young puppy!
  24. Bugger Bisart, I made sure I sent them in early otherwise I would forget and I wanted to support the neuter class even though it looks like I might not be able to make it
