  1. May I please have your thoughts... We lost our Queen Bee on Sunday. My other two dogs are now very quiet, subdued, don't want to play, hardly eat and generally look miserable. I have maintained their routine and we try to be positive. What else can I do? In your experience, how long does it take for them to get used to the change in the pack? Thank you.
  2. Thank you. I miss my little girl.
  3. You were everything. You were my smile. You were my joy. You were my strength. You were my heart. Sleep well my beautiful princess. Papa and I will always love you. Kluska as a little girl The big Lady Kluska
  4. It comes in capsule form for humans. There is probably no difference except $ but its worth checking http://rosehipvitalcanine.com.au/ Maybe you should get gelatin capsules from the Chemist and DYO :-) I'm sure they are exceptionally good when wrapped in liverwurst hehe
  5. Thank you so much for your help. My friends bought e-fence solution suitable for the whole property (not sure what brand). Hopefully that's the end of the the Lab-Explorer activities. Fingers very crossed here.
  6. Thanks to you Ness, I've become another RHVC convert. My old bully is taking Glyde, fish oil and RHVC supplements. RHVC has made a noticeable difference in the quality of her life.
  7. That's a great idea!!! Thank you. I will share your suggestion with them tomorrow :-)
  8. Thanks Pers, kelpiecuddles and WreckitWhippet. Pers, The dogs dig rather than jumping the fence. I think e-fencing would be needed for the small area. They could pour a lot of concrete to prevent digging but I am not sure that is an option. Kelpiecuddles, Nope, conflicts/chances of dispute with the RSPCA are not an option for them.
  9. Thanks for the training suggestion. No, the property is within the Greater Sydney Area and all city restrictions apply there. The problem with a dog run is keen dislike to keeping their dogs in such a confined space. It's their opinion that I need to respect while trying to help with info on options. They have locked the dogs in the swimming pool area today and I will find out how that went tomorrow :-)
  10. Many thanks for your advice and information. I have passed the info to my friends. Any other recommendations and suggestions are very appreciated here :-)
  11. Can anyone suggest a good electric fence for 2 labs living on a 2 acre block? The forum search seems to indicate that http://www.hiddenfence.com.au/ is a good option. Also, what are the dos and don'ts post installation? I've read that some dog training is required. Is that so? May I please have some info on that. Background: My friends bought and moved to a new property (well fenced!). The dogs have now taken to wandering/visiting neighbors when the family is away at work/school. They do not scale the fence but dig, dig, dig and go off to explore the new area. My friends will not consider installing a kennel so e-fencing seems like the best option atm. BTW, the dogs are very well loved and cared for and are inside/outside dogs.
  12. Turkey necks work great here and I always supervise the proceedings I am not game enough to give any other kind of bone to the bullies.
  13. My 3 1) Get raw barf/turkey necks + Holistic Select Lamb. They have three small meals per day - my OH works from home. 2) Have fish oil, sardines and occasionally kelp in their meals. I also add Glyde for the old Lady to help with arthritis (she is 10 yo). 3) Get their wrinkles and bums cleaned with Curash fragrance free baby wipes. Bullies are not very bendable, cleaning their back-end is as important as the front-end business. They also have some Vaseline put into the wrinkle folds to prevent inflammation. Edit: It's really not a lot of work. The Bullies get walked at 5am then cleaned and fed. It's part of their morning routine before I leave for work :-)
  14. That video is magic! Don't change a thing :-) If I had vacancy, I'd be sending adoption papers today.
  15. Sometimes a very special dog comes along.... It happened to us and I am grateful that our FF boy is still here. We will do fostering again in the future.
  16. Yes, in the context of this thread "Breeds to be wary of" BTW, I am always ready to learn and hear opinions of those who are more experienced to reduce my 'no idea' quotient :D
  17. OK... Oh please right back at you. A dog is what we want it to be regardless of what it's been originally bred for. Consider nature vs nurture and re-visit the original question posed in this thread.
  18. Sorry but we just have to disagree. It has not been my experience at all. Breed traits and predispositions translate to parenting/responsibility requirements in this context. Edit: I am not pretending to be an expert. I am not a trainer or animal behaviorist. Just your garden variety animal owner who has owned and loved animals for most of her life. I've lived with 3 beautiful bull breed dogs for 9 years now and have yet to experience any so called predispositions to....whatever. I do have pretty strong views about the declared breed traits (different from abilities). This is how the BSL happened!
  19. Really? Breeds to be Wary Of! It's like saying 'all red heads are feisty' or 'blonds are dumb'. Quite offensive me thinks! It's about the personality of the dog not the breed. I parent 3 bullies - each is different, each copes differently with stress. It is my responsibility to understand them and make sure they and others are safe. So by all means be wary of the owners, be wary of individual dogs but not the breed.
