  1. Found one It's called a Punky Pack and i managed to get one from a Dol'er so that's great Very similar to what was shown on Tilly's link
  2. Aaawwww they are such cute lil bubbas!!!!
  3. Hehe if the pup was a boy I'd have to go "Shy Star" Might need to be said quick...or have a glass or two of Baileys like i have... The Stars Aligned Shining Star Star of My Heart Star of the Show Show Star Star of Mine Will think more... ETA - Star so Bright Star Lite Star Bright Sweet Star Light
  4. It's also said that soaking of kibble can prevent bloat...because it doesn't swell up as much in the tummy etc
  5. I always found the digestion rate issue an interesting one - my boys get a lot of meaty bones, they strip the hanging meat off and eat the rest with the bone itself...the bone would have a different digestion rate wouldn't it? Even for people meat and vegies on the same plate but different digestion rates apply again. Not stirring...just curious? ETA - read the thread now...glad i'm not the only one with that idea re digestion rates!
  6. Thanks for that!! That was the kinda thing i was thinking of I don't carry too much - just poo bags, treats, keys and mobile if i can fit it in anywhere ETA - perhaps i should just drag the dog back pack out and let the boys carry any gear?
  7. Generally dogs don't get 'bored' of a food - but without the competition of the other pups she may not feel she has to get her share no matter the taste! Also if she is having a problem swallowing then the dry kibble might be more difficult for her - i'd even try a bit of warm water inthe food...let it soak in a little and let her try it and see how you go.
  8. Found a cheap Doog style belt/bag - Ebay
  9. I tend to have a baggie full of chunkers..lol - perhaps i have to go back to dry treats... ETA - i remember someone selling bags that also strapped to the thigh? I might have to look back at them, as long as i wear it on Bronx's side it may not be toooo bad? Drats...can't find them in the commercial market place thread...i'm sure they were in there!
  10. Oh...also...there is no harm in mixing a bit (eg a spoonful) of wet food in with her kibbles - however i'd suggest Natures Gift puppy food as it's great stuff and available from your supermarket. What kibble was the breeder feeding her?
  11. I'll snaffle a work dog for an hour or so...that will have to do for me i'm afraid!
  12. Thanks for that I have the blackdog treat pouch...that's what flaps about - noisy if i throw the house keys in too unfortunately As to the Doog one...they look way cool but perhaps i was looking in the wrong spot as the belt thing wouldn't hold too many treats i thought?
  13. Have you got any corn flour? Dip the toe in a bit of that and it will quickly stop the bleeding ETA - if you don't have corn flour - normal stuff will do
  14. One of my GSD's is a barker, never learnt to bark on command...but gives a particular kinda 'yip' that he only uses when he needs to go out My older dog who does bark on command, isn't a barker...just crosses his legs until i notice his eyeballs floating But since the other one has the smaller bladder (i'm sure of it!) they both go out at the same time..lol
  15. Oh cripes....she's a lil stunner isn't she!!!! Good thing i can't fit any more in here at the moment...i'd be tempted to put my hand up for the possibility of her even though i'm not in SA.
  16. Since i've been running with the work dogs i thought i'd do some with my own - so put on the treat pouch with treats, grabbed the dogs and off we went. A part from the fact that my dogs like to run as close to my legs as possible i was getting very annoyed by the treat bag flapping away as i ran. I walk with the dogs on either side of me so i don't have a free hand to hold the bag and it proved very very irritating - not to mention i was expecting to have left a trail of treats behind Does anyone know of treat bags you can get that don't flap about when you run with your dogs? or do you jsut go treatless?
  17. My guys turned their snouts up at the Coprice...which was a pity as i've heard good things about it. I've used Bonnie and been happy with it in the past, but they did change their receipe when Purina took it over and i haven't tried it since. With the Uncle Albers/Great Barko it is ok to feed a little less then expected - i found i could feed less of it then i would with most of the premium types and the dogs would be in great condition still. Even the younger one who drops weight at the drop of a hat. The cats even try and steal the stuff...kinda wish they made a dog food! With the RC (and most premium foods) it can be worth working out how much of it you ACTUALLY need to feed the dog and then rough out the cost per kg. And of course buy it in the biggest bag possible! Most premium brands also do a 'frequent purchaser' card where if you buy a certain number of bags in the same size you get a free one of that size. (Some places will give you the smallest bag that you've purchased on that card as your freebie...so if you have to get a smaller bag for whatever reason then give it it's own card unless you know the supplier will look past it)
  18. Different food, like for people, suits some and not others - i could probably give you a good and a bad example for each dog food (raw or dried) out there - a large variety have been tried out on my dogs (and cats) asi've worked in the industry and i'd not spruik anything i haven't tried my lot on. My lot haven't done great on a lot of foods but i know others who have outstanding results, same as my lot have had outstanding results on foods that haven't suited other dogs etc.
  19. My preferrences for my GSD's are Royal Canin for pricey foods (GSD specific food in particular...has no wheat even!), Uncle Albers/Great Barko for cheap food. As to raw foods - i've done the various BARF etc diets by the book and my dogs looked like crap - now they just get raw meaty bones when i'm not feeding kibble - no vegies, no suppliments, offal only on the odd occasion and the occasional frozen meat that's been dug out of my freezer and i'm not willing to eat ETA - my dogs look great - except for Sabre who seems to be allergic to grass and dirt - tho we are now using pills on him for that and that problem appears to be resolving and he's keeping weight on/coat is back to being healthy etc etc.
  20. Just because meat is the first ingredient on the list doesn't make it a good food - often when meat is first on the list it is placed in top position while in the fresh form...eg full of water. Other products end up with meat second on the list due to them weighing in with the meat in dried form...it's much lighter with all the water out of it. Read your lables but don't just take them at face value. Also look for the fat/lard/oil ingredient - usually everything before that on the list is what the food is mostly made up of and gives you the best indication of what is actually in the food and what will impact your dog the most. ETA - JE - make sure your dogs are getting a balanced diet...eg for example half kibble and raw meat with no bone isn't balanced.
  21. I prefer to live in ignorance of what my two GSDs cost me per month
  22. One of my GSD's is a barker - but he has the attention span of a goldfish - and when he barks it is always at something...just not necessarily an important something If my other GSD joins in then i know it's something serious as he's not a barker...tho he will bark on command which the sillier one has never grasped
  23. Hehe...i was going to say they are great...they love to watch! ETA - one of the first Grey's i fell for was a big boofer called Bowie - so they also come in boofer size if you prefer ;)
  24. I have always loved GSD's...the way they look, think, act, everything - my youngest nut case isn't the perfect poppet but my older boy makes up for that However as he's so perfect i'll probably get out of GSD's after they pass as i think i'll always compare against them (unless i go a Sable!). I will still always love GSD's tho i'll be getting into Bernese Mountain Dogs nex...and to keep the GSD side in a little i might look at fostering for work
  25. I thought the chunkers were meant more for treats? or are you talking about the 4-leg packs?
