  1. Yep i agree being with her 24/7 is the worst thing you can do. Puppies need to learn to be independant & they cope very well on there own,you train from day 1 for the future & that means a dog that can happily be on its on . Taking to work will also set her up for being needy instead of being independant. Unless your backyard is unsafe your pup needs to be allowed outside unattended & at the breeders your pup will be use to romping outside & enjoying it self. Our pups similiar size run an acre & spends hours on there own enjoying the outside world & we remind our puppy owners that as puppies they have experienced life & enjoyed it & its important people continue . Cavies are sporting spaniels & enjoy being s dogs . Our pups learn to use the doggy door from 6 weeks & at that age are trained to go outside to the toilet but we have owners who live in apartments that use false turf & the pups have adapted well but if you have a backyard train using it from day 1 . Main suggestion don't fuss or over protect ,treat the dog as a dog & it will be a very enjoyable pet for life, spoil it now & you will set yourself for issues when older & it will be harder for the dog to adapt
  2. i am so sick of hearing rare breeds & hard to gain the points, I have 3 grands ,2 rarely had comp,my other had breed comp 3 times in my home state . All grands at 3 years & under in a state where we have no options in shows we all show at the same . 1000 points is very achieveable & rare has no boundries . Looking forward to the Supreme award, i have 2 who have meet the requirements just need that 1 CC.
  3. My current Grand champ is the only one of his breed shown but he is a multi BIS /BIG winner .Being the only example shown isn't a set back at all .if the dog is good enough it will win. My other 2 grands where also often the only examples shown for the major part of there career but again multi BIS/BIG winners . The Aussies bronze/silver/gold is a title you can apply for & receive a certificate but you can't use it in entry forms as it isn't reconized in every state .
  4. Gold/silver /bronze is an unofficial title that is gained for points between the Ch & Grand Ch 100 Champion Bronze 250 points silver 500 points gold 750 points Grand 1000 points plus requirements
  5. I have 3 Grand Ch all attained the title 3 years or younger, the breed isn't in there prime till 5/6 .I have made up 4 others as a handler . i don't breed & like others these are my showdogs till retired .To have retired my oldies at 3 would be a crying shame & my current grand is no where near his prime & only 3 Grand is just a title .good dogs should be shown & are easily beaten & like already mentioned any breed can gain its grand title.
  6. Nearly all the Mini breeders i know remove them we certainly do The problem with removing them older is more a vet thing,if not done correctly it can cause issues. Your pup shouldn;t be getting stuck in the carpet unless there not being cut? Personally i wish breeders would remove them because most average joe don't cut them like we do. I have been sliced open far to many times in the kennels by over grown dew claws & have some major scars due to the damage done .
  7. Whilst a good breeder is worth every cent you wont be living with that breeder for the next 12 years 24/7. Many people have 2/3 breeds in mind & often go with whats available first BUT they are very committed to owning either of those so the decision comes down to who they have contacted, who has litters coming up & often how long they wish to wait for a pup.
  8. My dogs are trained in wire crates before using soft crates .soft crates ( a good quality one ) are excellent but easy to destroy,Wire crates have better air flow, easier to attach water bowls & do last longer . I use soft crates at some dog shows depending on the need on the day
  9. Plenty of heavier coated dogs live up there & do fine.Providing the right cool spots is a must . Just brush regulary & the dog will be fine
  10. Those pups will have lovely natures Zoli & her brother Chip are easy dogs to be around & i have handled both on many occasions & Squiggy is a real character
  11. The judge was LInda Pitts (USA) The swap dogs i can do otherwise go to FB on Michelle Hickeys page megz there all there
  12. you can buy bait bags at the canine , If you have pockets its a bonus & just whack the bait if you in a plastic bag is a tad melty /yucky. I more than often shove it down my bra . I rarely put it in my mouth because if the judge asks how old you need to answer. It really depends on the bait your using . I generally use liver.fish fingers, chicken and occasionally sausage except for my gordie who hates them. Most of the Lab folk use liver & generally the crew have buckets full of the stuff & a bait strapper near by if you run out ;) You can buy false pockets & just safety pin it to your clothes
  13. Victoria Jacqui O Riley National Winner NSW Rachel Shaw National Runner up

  15. we pick the pups for the owners ,those first on the list do get the benefit of picking from a choice that will suit. The next factor will be whats in the litter . If you want set colour & sex then your choices are limited until they are born. If your open minded then the choices are easier but a good breeder will ask questions regarding what you want(pet, show, obedience, dogsport, field, retrieving etc ) and match accordingly.
  16. First rule don't leave food down. Pup will be teething & some can go off there food during this time . As already mentioned how many times do you feed, what treats & could the portion size be too big. What time do you feed?? You say similiar diet what exactly have you changed & have you asked the breeder there thoughts. A simple diet change can mean alot to a pup so i would be looking at going back to there diet unless you have a good reason not to. Your pup may also be missing the other s for eating competitively so you need to be the dogs comp, don't feed the same time, don't leave food down,if pup doesn't look hungry don't feed it you need to teach pup to embrace its food bowl not refuse it
  17. I would have said $1650 was more average. $1500 sounds a good price . The main thing i would be worried about is breeders testing for hips/elbows & DNA for EIC.PRA
  18. otherwise consider a 3 berth dog trailer, great at dog sports as they can sit in there ,overnight events or even the beach .
  19. The Klugers have great space & would fit 3 labs easily ,even more so if the seats are done, you could also fit a crate easier in a Kluger. I drive a Terry every year & there space is useless for the cost of the car
  20. in all the years i showed inside & inside the last few ,never been outside You should get a good ES turnout for the Gundog & ES show after that its hit an miss if they turn up ,often most don't & the monday judge had ES in the UK so there won't be too many entered
  21. all our toys are brought from the op shops,Just check the stuffing, remove eye s if need be & the cheapest toy around. Other favorite stick tennis ball in sock & tie end they love toys that sorta play back. You don't need to spend big on toys,
