  1. Raw mutton is the better choice,we also never use rice or pasta Royal canin is a great product,i did try to switch my older boy over but it didnt work but any new ones will be feed RC. We also add tuna in oil, natural yoghurt, fish etc
  2. We feed 3 until the pups start not eating there full meals then drop down to 2.
  3. Puppy dont always fall out & sometimes they do need to be removed. Check the mouth weekly, give the pup things to chew on to help the teeth to come out but if its a showdog be diligent because if the puppy teeth dont come out & you arent aware it can create teeth issues . We have had a number of dogs where the baby teeth would never fall out & its quite common in our breed to retain baby teeth
  4. generally they will like your toes because of the sweat but you cant accept a little & then not want alot . I dare say she does at certain times so plan ahead ,distractions, play a game also why is she sucking up?
  5. Fence the chooks off.Dogs & chooks shouldnt be expected to co exist, some dogs do but generally if you want both then have them safely fenced from each other
  6. personnally i would scrape the RSPCA class & attend a good obedience school. We get our show pups vacc at 11 weeks. Some vets will over servive & have you come in way earlier, We do 6 weeks & then puppy owners do 12 weeks & then optional 16 week booster
  7. We never do it at the standard rate as it simply isnt fair for those who come in regularly with a pristeen dog to pay the same price as a 1-2 a year matted mess. We ask the condition & state depending on how bad it starts from,we can up it or stay with whats quoted, those in a mess are told what price before starting & they have the choice to leave if they wish but its never happened. Serial idiots will do it over & over again they simply dont care & they obviously dont care what there friends & family think when they pat the dog. Those arrogant type we may ask to hang around will we start grooming & that often gets there attention especially if another client comes in & makes a remark
  8. Its not a case of teaching not to eat unless told but just teaching general manners around food.Whilst she may steal the food the dog has to be there waiting to start with & thats when the training starts
  9. There is being alpha & being over the top,i dont holler for the dogs to come out for poo patrol, the job has to be done & its done to often to worry about them watching. We dont do the eating first, door first stuff we just use commonsense & if the dog respects you it comes easy but be careful not to break the dogs spirit as each dog needs to be trained differently not a case of 1 book suits all. I see far to many dogs in boarding that are so overtrained & terrifiied of doing something wrong they have no dog personality left & that is very said
  10. Depends on your base price & how easy it was.Groomers will understand that some matted clip offs can actually be easier that some regulars but we never charge the same as our regular clients.I would say from $65 upwards
  11. I show white dogs & when we use potatoe flour we always bath the dogs afterwards to wash it out. That stuff builds up & i would prefer to bath more often than fill it with powder
  12. GSP are notoriuos whinners when there owners are out of site so its important to stick with the lifestyle you want the dog to live. You need to be patient but you cant accept behaviour that now just to help it settle then not allow later on so i would gently discourage door jumping. You will find the GSP will be much harder to live with than what you have but the GSP are very intelligient so make sure you are smarter & all will be great
  13. Dogs must be under effective control at all times that is simple dog rules. If your dog is offlead then its up to you to make sure you have control same as offleash dog parks, walking the streets ,obedience, trialling etc etc.It isnt the clubs doing unless they contributed. This without the exact facts simply sounds like & an owner to owner thing
  14. You should tell any groomer what health issues the dog has as they will allow more time for grooming to its needs We never ever sedate dogs>We have had owners sedate prior to bringing in but we dont recommend it as it actually makes it harder to groom. We prefer not to have the owners there as the dog wants to be with them & it makes it harder & takes longer. Dogs popping on the table happens often so any good groomer is use to that. A salon should be very secure. Groomers prefer the dog to come in good condition, you get some clients that take them to the beach or a run through the brushes & then expect us to pick all the stuff out . Price wise varies but anywhere from $40 up. I would phone around & see what response you get but we for example are booked out for 4 weeks at present & where in WA
  15. Are the diggers inside or outside dogs??
  16. The first thing is you either dont want it to happen at all or you do.You cant accept a gentle nibble but then try & tell her off when it gets rough she doesnt understand that. Labs are gundogs so very mouthy by nature & luv to carry hands, your clothes around even though your attached . He is also teething so chewing is very soothing aswell. There are so many methods you can use but the first one is one rule.Start teething "sit" so when puppy is going over the top you can regain control ,leaving the room can work but you have shifted & the dog is still there.Have a toy near if possible so if dog shows the inclination focus it on the toy with reward
  17. Okay first questions is the dog going to be a housedog?? Crates have so many benefits, time out for pup such as slepping, during thunderstorms many dogs feel very happy sitting in there crate, extreme heat & keeping dog quiet, sickness, injury, visiting friends /rellies & being able to pop dog in crate, travelling in the car if you have a wagon. Many caravan parks ,motels will allow a crated dog in some rooms If unruley visitors come & its safer for the dog to be away quietly. If dog requires vet stay its already use to being crated I have showdogs so my dogs are all crate trained but even if i didnt show just the thought that i could place my dog happily in a crate if that moment needed it is so good
  18. Yep we train our pups to go toilets on the lead as pups saying a key word.Pups get sided track & forget what there doing so its important to keep there mind on what they should be doing.
  19. No one said dont walk but surely people understand a pup is a pup not a little adult. They will try to walk as far as you take them but it doesnt mean there able to too Your dogs body is 19 weeks /5 months no where near a 10/12 yr old & to think like that will cause you confusion. Its like saying a 10 yr old should be able to do the same as an 20 yrs old its not realistic nor achievable . Leash training is very important & small walks do the job plus socialization but around the block twice aday for a 19 week old i would never do that. We live on acre properties so a walk for our small breed at that age would be 4-5 houses done & back.My large breed pups dont go that far they just get basic lead training & manners & the small walks help co ordination but as much as they want to go further it doesnt happen.
  20. Patience & training cats are a noveltly, also have a safe room/area for the cats
  21. The number of dogs killed by there collars is quite high .Most people buy collars that look pretty or jazzy but are so unpracticable for what the job is. Many put the collars on so tight if the did get stuck they couldnt slip out . The clients who lost there dog where devasted they came home from work & it was dead strangled with the collar so tight ,they dont wear collars now. Our dogs never wear collars .its fort knox & all gates are padlocked so no idiots can open any gate here .
  22. Terrorbull had a client whos dog killed the other due to the collar strangling the other dog whilst playing as the locking mechanism tighten during play
  23. As i stated in the other post its purely personnal. If your truley dedicated to training then get 2 .Some will say what till later & that can have its own problems. For example you could get 1 now what a few years & then bring in pup older dog hates pup what to do?? I see now issues in getting 2 & it really isnt that much more work if your totally honest with yourself about the time needed to be spent on the pups. Lets face it by 12 months there adults & you can enjoy both together walk them together do everything together or bring in a pup later which means sepearting spending time with pup & other dog ,that isnt easy especially if you get a jealous dog
  24. Breeders will generally tell puppy owners how much/type of exercise but many people do not follow the advice. As ellz said pups are like young toddlers. Dogs arent fully growm till 12 months & with large/giant breeds 18 mths so any heavy /inappropriate exercising can create all sorts of health issues. Around the block can vary but as a pup at 19 weeks it would be depending to the end of the street & back. Also with breeds longer in back you need to build them up slowly . Remember there simlpy babies
