  1. One of my old dogs has bad adnoids (which cant be removed in dogs)every so often he has a horrid hack sorta cough/clearing the throat,it comes & goes & meds do relieve the problem but we try to advoid them where possible .We have learnt not to worry as its just him but it can be embarrassing when people here it
  2. He has just as much chance of getting bloat whether feed barf or biscuits & if a dog is lacking condition then i would be trying biscuits aswell, pointers are hard to maintain weight & what you may want to feed doesnt mean its right for this dog. I have deep chested breeds & they are feed biscuits plus there raw food & are exercised for an hour each night plus the free running on an acre but i always have to adapt the feed to each dog in question as each one thrives on something different. Maybe try pancreas tablets aswell
  3. We had a dog with blocked tear ducts who required the surgery many years ago & it was all fixed .
  4. Maverick a clipped top coat is far more work than a good top coat even for pet owners, you have to constantly clip the top coats where a good top coat is easy maintance, dries quicker etc
  5. At 7 months the coat is no where near mature but you need to strip the coat to get the puppy fluff out.Maybe ask your breeder if they can recommend another breeder to give you some basic advice or show you how to use a tool correctly maybe even the one you have.
  6. You shouldnt clip the top coat of a springer . You need to rake/strip the top coat so the right texture comes through & then you have a great coat for the life of the dog,if you clip the top coat it will curl more, the undercoat will take over & it looks dull & deary. If you got the dog from a good breeder they should be able to show you how to work on the coat,it isnt that hard but the results a fair better than clipping,a good groomer should advise agaisnt clipping the top coat but they should strip the coat & tidy the feet, clip the throat/ear area & trim & tidy up. If the dog is young the coat will curl until the mature coat is heavy enough to keep it down
  7. I will also use this as a case many yrs ago we plus many others we unfortunate enough to have puppies vaccinated by a batch that was bad. We persude this & although the outcome was to flipint if the pups hadnt been vaccinated by a vet where it was proved they where healthy & happy at time of vaccs we wouldnt have had any comeback as what proof would you have to say pups where fine when vaccinated by yourself?? If your vet doesnt check thoruoughly then say something we sure as hell do,we are paying for the consult & expect full service to be given or we speak up
  8. My theory is if you slef vaccinated are you going to take the temp, listen to the hearts & do a general checkup to ensure puppy is healthy to be vaccinated?? For me when selling the pups have been vet checked at 6 weeks ,injection given or if for any reasons a problem is there its addressed before a vacc is given.
  9. I believe the product can take up to 6 months to work but have seen many dogs on it be no different or infact worse than before. You can try all the drugs in the worl but retraining will get the best results & if the behaviour has happened for awhile then it will take longer to retrain out of it. Maybe you need to look at her routine, boredom levels & diet, there are many more alternative methods that can be used than doping the dog out.Set up a video camera & in her area & video what exactly she does, where she barks etc etc
  10. This has nothing to do with you greentea but this is a classic example of vets who misdiagnos & can create all sorts of issues with breeder/buyer.Its so frustrating & uncalled for i hope you sent a report from the specialist vet to the one who claimed his problems
  11. The coat king wouldnt be totally useful in this case, a stripped coat for the show ring needs special maintance & pet maintained the coat king would be fine
  12. The first thing is you cant train a dog in a week, each breed & individual personality needs to be thhought off when training & even though the dog is trained doesnt mean you can handle it
  13. should have got a smooth coat griffon
  14. We have a hand stripped breed & run a grooming salon but we wont hand strip breeds like this ,no amount of money can pay for the time & the biggest thing to remember is once stripped the coat still has to be maintained weekly, you still have to work on getting the coat to last & look good for the shows,to be honest you would be broke paying out. Stripping is done over 3-4 weeks unless you can roll the coat on the odd occasions, depending on how quick the coat lasts to when it blows determines how long you can show it,we had a dog thats coat didnt last long at all so we had to pick the show season with him for maxium showing. There are plenty of people that can do it but its so time consuming that those who could it for you are busy doing there own dogs. Plus its not just the stripping you still have to trim the feet, eras, clip bottom etc etc which is weekly too. Unfortunately a stripped breed is alot of work & if the stripping isnt done correctly or too much gap is left between stripping sections you can still end up with a crap coat or one that wont last as the head, kneck & tail area grow quicker than the back, sides so when you strip you strip slowest growing first & fastest last some when in full coat it looks well blended & even & then each week you wrok on the dea hairs you carefully maintence pluck
  15. Feeding is a personal choice & whilst some think barf is the greatest its not for all dogs,to be honest if your dog is happy, healthy & its toilets are fine dont rush into a diet change ,do so gradually as you may upset the dogs stomach & get more than you bargained for. We run boarding kennels & 90% of dogs are feed lower quality biscuits & tin at home & these dogs are thriving & living to a good age & yes there teeth are great & stools fine. Even within our own dogs we feed different things due to what works well with some totally disagrees with another,i have a dog that is meat sensitive & i have to be careful what he gets & the amount. So my advice introduce things slowly into his normal feed & if all goes well change a bit more until your happy the dog is fine on the new diet
  16. "we love them & want to treat them like us"is smacking something you & your hubby do to each other??,when a person is going to be smacked they either scream or cringe in the hope of protecting themselves, the dog is growling to protect itself from the smack,a problem that is owner created & the dog is now confused. It sounds to me that the young dog hasnt meet the standard of your first dog which is annoying you both & you are comparing a pup to an adult & trying to be forceful in discipline which hasnt got you any results except create some problems. Loving a dog is fine we all do it ,spoiling it is great but taking away the dogs identity confuses them .You need to go to training, treat them like dogs & stick to a consistant routine that doesnt involve smacking & do this in a big hurry
  17. Agree you can love them all you want but you are treating them like humans, you say you treat them they way youd want to be treated,is smacking something you like??
  18. is she spayed & was there any changes back when she became fussy, like be in season etc etc??
  19. I agree the water can change the results ,i now i get good results in my state but when i go east for shows the coats there do tend to come up even better, water can play a major even in dilution rates ,if diluting & not sure i have used distilled water for that part
  20. I seriously wonder what they actually used to burn skin, that had to be some very harsh product maybe more than just shampoo. I use human shampoos becuase they have given my the best results on my long coats & have never ever done any damage,as to washing out with a clarifying stuff that is used when a change of product is to be used or otherwise every few months ,it isnt designed as a weekly product & that will ruin coats & hair long term. The only dog product i do use is one for a white coat but even then he is still done with human stuff aswell & for 20 plus yrs of great coats results im not changing
  21. Have used human stufff for 20 plus yrs,my current show kids are pee feathered bathed every night in human stuff & full bathed every wednesday & showdays. Dogs with sensitive skins we use head/shoulders or selsum blue but my 2 boys are pantene kids
  22. We dont recommend the yearly jab to our puppy owners ,there have been far to many well documeted cases of health issues related to this & infact the product was withdrawn from the US for a while & the one used in australia is of a higher rating S12 i believe. There are many vets that dont use the product or recommend it.
  23. Worms & a cough can go together .Also what did the vet say about its heart ?? For starters if the pup is 8 half weeks & you have had it a week it was sold under age if a reg breeder as no pup can leave till 8 weeks Personally i dare say they wherent a great breeder to start off with, did you see hip/elbow & eye certifacates for the parents(should have been given copies). It is your call but i think id take it back or pursue matters further it sounds like a problem that will be around for a awhile with expensive bills. just think how much you have spent now in relation to cost of the dog & in a week
  24. getting him spayed early was a good move now you need to address the humping, when he approaches your leg you need to start training his behaviour before he gets a chance, you need to be quicker as usually the dog shows signs prior to humping, its time for you to be the pack leader not the dog
