  1. We dont recommend it but i have to say this. Vets say we dont have to vacc yearly but they are now pushing yearly heartworm which has more side effects, doesnt make alot of sense
  2. Scat murdoch certainly isnt the only option i dare say your vet works in with them but you have other choices there.
  3. How long is a piece of string & thats your answer but having said that all that Bernese said is important, some breeds have food intolerances so you now not to risk some brands,if its a pup you should follow the breeders diet sheet. I feed one of the brands because it suits my dog & its needs, doesnt mean it will suit yours
  4. We have had 8 greys & not one had allergies or issues. The biggest thing to remember is a grey pup is a clumsy, fast growing pup & not everyone wants one.Would it be allowed in the house? How often would you visit it,Greys thrive on a routine & knowing where they belong, there extremely sensitive & if not treated in a way suitable for Greys can become very nervous & slink alot They will often get the runs on certain meats & will get the runs when alarmed or insecure
  5. I totally agree with Miranda. Did you visit the facilities & totally go over there training methods & watch them, did they allow you to come & visit the dog & show you its progress??? Did they then teach you how to control the dog after training or just send you home with the dog? So many of these scenarios end up with the dog worse than before which is a real shame
  6. She will learn but the key is the dog must respect the humans as pack leaders. Often its not so much an uphill battle but the communication between human to dog is confusing. You need to find a good obedience school that will teach you how to communicate with your dog . Remeber although only 6 months they are at an age where there a sponge for learning & testing the boundries . You need to look at what she does on a daily basis & decide what areas you think needs work on & what areas shes doing really well at so when you go to training you can discuss that with your instructor. Remeber training is an every day thing, make her site for food, teach her to stay on amat or the zone, when preparing food at night feed her outside & give her playtime /time out time, break the routine,do obedience whilst preparing food. It may sound like hardwork but it isnt & when done incorparated with daily routine its more fun & very easy
  7. What does the breeder recommend?? generally you follow there diet sheet or discuss an laternative that is breed suitable. "natural Balance" locally has been around for a long time & mainly in asia highly sort after in Japan,i now the people personally
  8. The duty of care should have been the fact the dogs where there due to coughing. Whilst obviously we know the signs of KC our vet has big signs on the door asking clients with coughing dogs not to enter. If the dog before me or i noticed a dog coughing i would place dog out in care asap & ask the stff is it KC in the dog waiting there?? We never take our dogs in straight away,we go in check whats waiting & ask anyone with KC,parvo, gastro etc. Our vet comes to us for vaccs but if we have too go to vets & where not sure we always ask.
  9. Used to use many of there stuff but it didnt have the same result as in the past but i do use the revivia coat alot.
  10. Kangaroos do have worms babdly but if the dog is wormed correctly & the place selling the roo meat is a good one then all should be fine
  11. I agree either too much oil, blunt or not put back together again, some blades just dont have the same life as others. Also what a dog is washed in can have a baring when clipping some stuff just makes the coat crap. We dont always oil straight away but use a tooth brush to get hair out of blades. We generally get our blades sharpened once a year but the blades requiring sharping have different ages & we too use them 5-6 days a week. Brands can aslo play a factor some are just useless & snag too often
  12. The dog has learnt at present to hate 2 things, you for placing something around its kneck that has frieghten it with hopefully no ill effects & that the car harness is now a tool of punishment. Whether a new dog owner or not you cant seriously think tying a chicken around a dogs kneck was a responsable thing to do & to sit & watch the dog in distress for a few hrs is quite shocking & what you seriously though this was going to achieve is a tad mind boggling. Dogs can be forgiving but they also dont forget & like humans some things can be a fear for life. The dogs reaction to you is not knowing whats going to happen next as to not being consistant in behaviour that is a dog for crying out loud & your response to what she has done is more inconsistant to her than anyhing she will do. If you want chickens around dogs you house then correctly its not that hard. The dog has obviously being digging for awhile & you havent adressed the warnings signs then now the dog has done something your jumping up & down like it was unexpected.
  13. Cleo you have answered your question,10 yr old happy & healthy & never been sick.Sounds like what your doing is fine ,in older dogs changing diets for no great reason can create more health issues than you bargained for. We have 3 oldies here 14,12 & 10 all have something different due to what they can digest & flourish on ,any changes & they get upset tummies & feel off so we stick to what suits them. Obviously with your youngster you can experiement a little but if your following your breeders diet sheet then stick with that till 12 months but adding yoghurt, tuna, sardines, raw mutton her & there will d now harm at all & give some variety to the biscuits, any queries maybe phone the pups breeder
  14. The retired showdogs get done each week. The show boys get pee feathers washed every night, full bath/trimmed wednesday & show bath either friday/saturday
  15. Cleo if your dogs are happy dont change . Some BARF feeders will make out your doing harm to your dogs by not following there way of feeding but feeding is a personal choice & if your dogs are in good condition ,happy etc then dont change. Barf isnt for all dogs just like some commerical brands dont suit certain breeds As to the time at vets compaered to barf feeders is a little over the top,i now of die hard barf feeders who spend more time at the vets than we ever have so that is no arguement . We have boarding kennels & we see dogs feed all sorts of stuff from die raw to tin & all the dogs are in equal condition . We personally dont use Hills as it cant be given to one of our breeds but many use it with success. I agree ditch the rice, vegies but give chicken knecks, raw mutton/flaps,tuna yoghurt each day.In summer we give carrots for the dogs to chew on so the flys dont hang around unless its bath day. Dont worry
  16. All our pups are spayed ,no spaying no pup very simple as a breeder we can find many great owners but these same owners can often become the same people that want just 1 litter or joe bloe ask to use Max at stud. If all these so called responsable owners took care of there entire males/females then there wouldnt be all these opps litters. All our retired stock are spayed & not one has got fat, lost condition or what ever other "Human" excuse there is . The simple fact is many male owners wont get there dogs desexed due to there own male macho image, like owning a pitball is to many others believe keeping there males entire gives then same image. Very few of these responsable intact owners ever check there dogs testicles so they wouldnt a clue as to whats going on because many think its gross to feel a dogs nuts. When we groom dogs we check & we have sent a few owners of to the vets due to there intact dogs having issues that they didnt notice. BYB are getting very clever when phoning breeders in the attempt to get entire stock so spaying is the only way to stop them so as i say all our pups are spayed & known of them have grown differently due to it . I reckon compulsory desexing unless a good reason is given is a great way to go
  17. The sad part is the owner is probably following the advice qiven by the breeder & taken it to the extreme in the hopes of the pup getting no issues latter life. Maybe they had a previous GSD with issues & this time are trying to be more. What these people obviously dont realize is proper nutrition & weight is just as important as not letting it get fat, that it needs to be a realistic weight to grow steadily not fast. Its a hard one especially when they think there doing right we get them all the time as clients going off on there own tangnet but having idea about the consequences until too late. If it was me i,d bring it up if talking in a very mild manner but not pushy maybe even say what does the breder think of the prgress ??
  18. Keeping a pup lean in early puppy life doesnt mean skinny. What you want is weight appropriate for the pup just ever so slightly under but no condition means when it does grow it has no weight to utilize. In my large breed pups we feed a good diet & each dog has it own unique growth spurts & weight ratio but i never keep them skinny
  19. I agree this is the exact reason why males & females should be spayed if there is no good reason to be entire. The outcome depends on what it is ,how much its spread if its the worse. Personally i would be spaying asap not waiting. Very few pet owners ever check there males testes & we through our grooming parlour have sent many owners off to the vets due to abnormal testes & some have come back with no issues, some have had the worse cancer but the owners hadnt a clue, they wanted them to be entire but no one of wanted to check there dogs either. We have also sent bitches of who have showed symptons that the owners said yeah does it all the time,1 died of pyometra ,a couple of others had to be spayed asap
  20. With my large breed pups of that age i dont walk them ,they self exercise what i do do is take them out the front to socialize & see the world. If i was to walk them it would be a 15 min max walk down the road & back. You will notice that your puppy will play & then flop when its had enough & generally its in short spurts. What you dont want to do is go ponding the pavement when there joints are still soft & growing. At 4 months the brief walk is socializing & co ordination & lead skills then back to them self exercising . Take it slow & steady by 6 months you can venture further & do a tad more but slow & steady is a must. Even if you do obedience classes good clubs break up the class time to suit puppies needs
  21. I dont feed can but many people do & there dogs live happy ,healthy lives. Feeding is a personal choice & i respect someones elses choice ,if there dog is fine on the stuff then why should they change. 2 of australias all time top show dogs where feed canned because it suited them & thats what they enjoyed each to there own i say.
