  1. The first thing is you either dont want it to happen at all or you do.You cant accept a gentle nibble but then try & tell her off when it gets rough she doesnt understand that. Labs are gundogs so very mouthy by nature & luv to carry hands, your clothes around even though your attached . He is also teething so chewing is very soothing aswell. There are so many methods you can use but the first one is one rule.Start teething "sit" so when puppy is going over the top you can regain control ,leaving the room can work but you have shifted & the dog is still there.Have a toy near if possible so if dog shows the inclination focus it on the toy with reward
  2. Okay first questions is the dog going to be a housedog?? Crates have so many benefits, time out for pup such as slepping, during thunderstorms many dogs feel very happy sitting in there crate, extreme heat & keeping dog quiet, sickness, injury, visiting friends /rellies & being able to pop dog in crate, travelling in the car if you have a wagon. Many caravan parks ,motels will allow a crated dog in some rooms If unruley visitors come & its safer for the dog to be away quietly. If dog requires vet stay its already use to being crated I have showdogs so my dogs are all crate trained but even if i didnt show just the thought that i could place my dog happily in a crate if that moment needed it is so good
  3. Yep we train our pups to go toilets on the lead as pups saying a key word.Pups get sided track & forget what there doing so its important to keep there mind on what they should be doing.
  4. No one said dont walk but surely people understand a pup is a pup not a little adult. They will try to walk as far as you take them but it doesnt mean there able to too Your dogs body is 19 weeks /5 months no where near a 10/12 yr old & to think like that will cause you confusion. Its like saying a 10 yr old should be able to do the same as an 20 yrs old its not realistic nor achievable . Leash training is very important & small walks do the job plus socialization but around the block twice aday for a 19 week old i would never do that. We live on acre properties so a walk for our small breed at that age would be 4-5 houses done & back.My large breed pups dont go that far they just get basic lead training & manners & the small walks help co ordination but as much as they want to go further it doesnt happen.
  5. Patience & training cats are a noveltly, also have a safe room/area for the cats
  6. The number of dogs killed by there collars is quite high .Most people buy collars that look pretty or jazzy but are so unpracticable for what the job is. Many put the collars on so tight if the did get stuck they couldnt slip out . The clients who lost there dog where devasted they came home from work & it was dead strangled with the collar so tight ,they dont wear collars now. Our dogs never wear collars .its fort knox & all gates are padlocked so no idiots can open any gate here .
  7. Terrorbull had a client whos dog killed the other due to the collar strangling the other dog whilst playing as the locking mechanism tighten during play
  8. As i stated in the other post its purely personnal. If your truley dedicated to training then get 2 .Some will say what till later & that can have its own problems. For example you could get 1 now what a few years & then bring in pup older dog hates pup what to do?? I see now issues in getting 2 & it really isnt that much more work if your totally honest with yourself about the time needed to be spent on the pups. Lets face it by 12 months there adults & you can enjoy both together walk them together do everything together or bring in a pup later which means sepearting spending time with pup & other dog ,that isnt easy especially if you get a jealous dog
  9. Breeders will generally tell puppy owners how much/type of exercise but many people do not follow the advice. As ellz said pups are like young toddlers. Dogs arent fully growm till 12 months & with large/giant breeds 18 mths so any heavy /inappropriate exercising can create all sorts of health issues. Around the block can vary but as a pup at 19 weeks it would be depending to the end of the street & back. Also with breeds longer in back you need to build them up slowly . Remember there simlpy babies
  10. I agree she isnt allowed to be a puppy. My opinion over training & you say she is praised for being quiet & ignored when she shows personality. I wouldnt say shes bored but more whining for attention other than the structured time she is given. It sounds like you want a little adult now & thats what shes being moulded to,she isnt boring just not allowed to be a puppy.
  11. Feed earlier ,if dog wants to go toilet take out onlead only giving command toilet ,do not allow pup to go out on its own at this stage you must make it clear the break is for toilets not playtime or whatever time.If the dog whines tell it "No" even tap the crate if need be be patient very consistant but dont let the dog set the rules
  12. Sadly this is the common attitude with dog owners it jumps up lets get rid off it,it is a dog dogs jump but unless people put in time & effort the dog doesnt simply learn whats expected. If its too much hassle it is better for the dog to be rehomed & not because the kids may get attached because the dog deserves a home where it will be wanted for life not a part time yes you can stay /no you must go.If your frustrated what about the dog is feels your frustration without leadership very hard for a pup to figure out whats expected. I get the impression the other dog is suppose to be doing the training & you had the idea all would be easy??I dare say each of your children have different needs, level of learning etc & the dog is no different. It is only 12 weeks & if its had no training or no effort put in then it isnt the dogs fault there training/learning is only as good as what the owners put in
  13. Is she on prednil??Have you tried alternative meds like phenergen, zirtec.
  14. Litters apart doesnt mean anything ,you say there from the same parents thats an issue. The big thing to remember is when the girls come in season it will place your boy in alot of distress, unless you are set up to keep them away from each other at this time you will have issues such as the male peeing up everything, trying to hump which can injure the male/females back.Having your boy spayed will stop unwanted pups but keeping the bitches entire is a health risk plus will create issues in the house at that time. As you say your not breeding but all the questions ask are what a breeder should now so the person your getting the pup from should be giving you a detailed folder on diet, grooming etc Breeding siblings is an issue unless you dont care about what your producing or selling to the poor buyers.
  15. I generally hand mind down to juniors but i have remained the same weight for so long that i havent out grown anything. I also buy carefully & prefer to pay more something that will last but i have purchased some great stuff from the op shops, having irish/english setter means getting colours that suit both can be hard . I have 2 wardrobes full of clothes
  16. I would also look at the way the pick the dog up & the way they cuddle, some people when they cuddle a dog go over the top & the dogs doesnt feel comfortable.
  17. Some dogs are jumpers some arent but i would also say as shes picked up all the time she just thinks thats the normal. But at her age jumping isnt disreable & the more you make off it the more reluctant they can be,also the floor surface, previous attempts which may not have been good can create a small fear.As to being able to place her feet up means nothing in getting the whole body up,i can reach high doesnt mean i can jump over it.

    Integration

The dog leaving its stable home will be more stress . The dog will then have to adjust to a new home, new routine & a new pup in its twilight years. It wont be easy. Is there any other reason why the goldie has to move home? It can be easier around an adult but you have a dog that is older & i dare say not had to put up with a bouistrous pup for a long time & the older dogs acceptability & patience level may not be the same anymore. We never rely on older dogs for training each dog is different & you have to opposite breeds
  19. Cortisone over time can create issues ,it only covers the problem but once it wears out the issue is back it seems these days vets hand out prednil like lollies. We will not use it unless its a bee sting.
  20. Her coat will determine the success of any trim but generally you just do a puppy trim & the head is decided by the coat, features & what the owners want. You dont have alot of choices

    Wandering

Simple a fence,if the dogs arent securley & correctly housed they will wander & be a nuisance. You dont just get rid off a dog without actually doing something first,The dog obviously is able to go off when ever it feels like, has done so for awhile & now its a problem which isnt her fault . Theres no mircale answer except not allowing it to happen . I presume they are outside dogs & dont get alot of stimulation or walks etc?
  22. Well said Cordelia. If breeders dont insist on desexing there irresponsable,if they do it early there monsters .Sad world when another breeder happily bags a breeder for doing the right thing with a breed that in the wrong hands could be trouble. Cheaper, easier what crap
  23. Remember there are thousands of early spays with no issues out there & aslong as people cant be trusted whether it be via rescue, breeders it will be done.
  24. The dog needs to be trained to go outside aswell. Is this dog going to be solely in the house 24/7???
  25. yelling & smacking will do nothing. What the dog is doing is a natural act but certainly not diserable. Some dogs are very randy, very much all male & if a pet you get them spayed as early as possible. You often find these same dogs will mark everywhere. Does the dog hump the humans, things you are touching or whilst playing??If yes the dog is asserting itself as the pack leader & you need to readdress the pack order but seriously if a pet spay early, discuss the issues with the breeder aswell as some lines can be randy. When the dog humps most think it is funny & allow it to happen but the novelty soom wheres off & then owners are trying to stop something that has been made acceptable. Yu can generally with attention now when the dog is going to try it so you must be smart & get in first, divert, distract & encourage acceptable behaviour with reward. Yes bitches will also hump
