  1. You need to remember Chloe grew up with a mature dog ,she has grown up with a different style of company through her adult stages . She is not use to it . She needs her space and needs to not fell overwhelmed .
  2. Dog will fly fine but phone around those 2 often charge crazy prices . try Baycity travel in brisdie Mooreholme KCR
  3. Limited choices if you want it to sleep outside ,Companion breeds are exactly that thrive on human comapny ,people can certainly work but want there humans when you get home . Is there a reason it must sleep outside .What is your winter weather like. What protection will it have overnight for warmth (especially a small breed)
  4. American Cocker Spaniels can come in a Sable Merle colour . Dapple Dachshunds is a merle
  5. To be honest this doesn't sound that concerning. You have an old dog who is now bombarded with toddlers, running around & an expectation it should just deal with . I get the impression you expect the dog to just resume to its normal way of life now your back & it isn't. Its lived a nice quiet lifestyle with two people & hasn't had to share its home with such over stimulating intruders aka little people . This is not about the age of your parents YOU ALL have to change your mindset & the fact you say lock the dog away shows that & doesn't show alot of feeling for the the poor dog who is obviously feeling anxiety/discomfort even if you cant see it or want to see it. Get a puppy pen ,dog sits in that when your there KIDS learn to not touch or go near the dog .It is unfair to just shut an old dog outside to suit you . 12.5 is old in any breed ,how each dog ages is a factor & lifestyle ,hearing, eye sight Plenty of dogs live daily without a crate & thrive & i agree with the other poster to imply age is an issue with your parents is not very nice ,you may be younger but it doesn't mean your ways are any better either . You need to meet in the middle ,not demand
  6. First mistake presuming pup should know better & be trained. Nope pup is trained to what you have accepted & its not the pups fault.if your frustrated just remember the pup is most likely confused. You havent made a mistake by taking pup outside to toilet that is the right thing to do ,the mistake was presuming its old enough to know better when it isn't .At 4.5 months of age it is a baby still very much looking for correct direction, repetition & reward .You have had pup for maybe 9 /10 weeks & pup has to learn its new home layout, new rules & expectations so very little time to be perfect .I would not consider being on the right path till 6 months if you have followed the good basics as a baby There will often be the odd accident BUT you need to keep on the training routine & good back to basics, shut the door if need be . If pups get distracted they will forget & go inside but more often than not pups that aren't truly confident in what you want & where to go will go to the one place that feels more homely . Get a puppy pen & restrict access of the home ,teach pup to ask to go outside & be prepared to stay out for 10/15 mins. When pup comes inside go straight back out with an exciting & encouraging voice to go toilet ,Reward. Keep in mind this is one of of the simplest issues so you need to be prepared for plenty of other challenges ahead with a young puppy .( i guess you know how your parents felt toilet training you )
  7. Have to agree with some of the comments about not all getting on well together . We board alot of JR half just love there other mate the other half its a constant daily challenge to keep the household sane & safe . If you do decide to rehome one its better to do it sooner than later .2.5 is not old & plenty of time to change the behaviour but waiting a year can add new challenges to the equation & don't feel sorry for the dogs or feel you have let one down if rehoming is the end result because thinking about the long term & happiness of the dogs is more important . Classes are a most & like mentioned so many cowboy trainers out there .It sounds like contacting the JR rescue mentioned could very well be a good start for the right trainer & a great sounding base to help you
  8. Yep if you have brought from a good breeder who health test there dogs they will be your go to person for advice. They should be supplying you with a diet chart but more importantly should send you the diet chart before pup comes home so you have the food ready. Any other questions again your breeder will be able to assist you & love doing so . Your breeder will give you the next worming date to go by & then follow the schedule.Ask them what brand they use & some breeds can react to some brands hence why your breeder can save you alot of grief in the asking department
  9. Actually it will be behavioural and the more you expect the dog to look the more it won’t. Many dogs don’t want to make eye contact no big deal . Chances are the dog is soft and not that confident or in some cases people get pushy around the face and the dog is saying move off .. Lucky nothing happen too the dog
  10. Yes had ons with cancer ,we opted to not put them through the chemo route and never regretted it . The dogs enjoyed quality time for there final stages . I wouldn’t put an old dog through it and yes they do get sick from the chemo
  11. Agree with others with not taki g them home as they will get excited over returning having no clue that there going to leave again. If they have settled then just move on with there new routine
  12. Because they often require more effort to get that colour and then a correctly marked one ,there still breed but sable is the most common colour. This is a common factor in many breeds where certain colours just don’t appear in all litters unless in the lines . Like many factors you can’t breed the same dogs over and over so unless people are importing new lines that carry the Merle then people are happy to just have the sables . There are other colours that appear less then the Merle’s and again when people are breeding its generally not about the colour but the future
  13. Sadly there are ethical breeders asking very big deposits ,we have big issues within our breed some asking between $500 to $750 ,pups not born so yes the breeder does very well in the bank balance & they tell people non refundable even though they take too may & when not enough pups your put on the list for the next litter .There method of hogging the market & ensuring people feel they cant ask for there money back although a few have seen there being sucked in .We know people who have waited 18 months & the breeder holding there deposits & enjoying nice holidays in between . I have no issues if people want to do a deposit system but it needs to be clearly written about what is non refundable & what the breeder guarantees when the pups aren't even born or survived ,passed vet check or the nature of said pup not even known or if the right fit for each family or even is a potential show pup, performance pup or a pup that needs to fit into a special kind of home set up . Sadly buyers feel if they don't do the deposit they will miss out because thats the whole point of it but people need to ask more questions & if the breeder gets all pissy about it walk away
  14. Start training him to wee out the front of your house ,go back to basics .In the morning he doesn't get to go out the back ,place on lead & head straight out the front . Your dog knows the backyard is where he should toilet & hasn't learnt that going out the front is just as good. Yes i have owned 2 dogs that wouldn't toilet when out both showdogs .I train all my pups to toilet on leash in the back yard & rewarded even more for going on the leash . One of the dogs i got at 15 months so it took time but with patience not necessity he finally was relaxed & comfortable with toileting at shows . My other boy i got as a pup but was very toilet proud ,he was more of a struggle to poo onleash at away shows but it wasnt the end of the world they do hang on but finally weed . Use your cue but don't make it about the drama & a specific thing ,dogs pick up on your expectations . I would causally walk around areas with a high pee rate & not say anything when my GSD finally weed i also didn't make a big deal off it just walked of wish a simple good boy ,over the next few days followed the same no fuss procedure & each time he weed again i would slowly introduce my word but i made him fell his success was on his terms
  15. Irrespective of how much he has already cost you he has also cost a child the potential trust of dogs .It works both ways & to be honest how much spent in the past is meaningless compared to the future risk he may be & what damage he may do . If you decide to keep him then you still need a safe yard for him no matter what he is listed as ,that would simply be common sense & good management & cheaper than being sued by a family off a child . I agree boot camp will not fix him you need a trainer that will work with you and TEACH you and your family how to manage your dog, read the signs & be able to meet any requirements placed on him First are you sure he isn't in some form of pain from the broken leg that could potentially make him narky. What sort of training have you previously done & what are his manners like in general . To be honest being in a safe yard when your out is not going to impact on his life that much ,plenty of dogs live happy lives in a dog friendly run whilst owners are at work or events because they may be jumpers, destructive, poor fencing ,annoying neighbours . Yes you will have to follow the other restrictions placed but that is fair considering what he has already done
  16. We dont take deposits . We take a holding fee strictly AFTER pups first vet check & people have visited & we are happy its the right pup for each person .That holding deposit is receipted & microchip number of the puppy selected is all listed ,upon pick up chip number confirmed . I believe any breeder taking deposits at such a young age should have the terms clearly written out if there pup does not meet the needs you want . If the nature is not suitable, doesn't pass a health check .This should apply to any breeder . Also check your state laws about the percentage of a deposit that can legally be taken to the price.
  17. Can you get council approval for 3 dogs would be my first question given your WA . Personally if your 2 are happy I would enjoy the time you have with your oldest still feeling special , Yes it could work ,it could also not work ,the 3 dog will take valuable time away from your oldie
  18. In various breeds colours just dont appear in every litter unless you have that in your lines. The main colour in Shelties is sables & that is what the greater majority breed ,the you can get tris,bi coloured & Blue Merles . If your wanting a Blue merle you will just have to be prepared to wait longer . Some of the older breeders still have strong Merles in there lines others will have decided to stick to there sables . In my breed we have a main colour plus 3 more acceptable colours BUT all colours do not appear in a litter ,you have to select your lines to be able to produce the colours & we do not breed too of the colours.
  19. What you need to do is look at every thing you feed ,a high amount of fat including the treats can make a dog vomit so if there saying allergy you need to look at foods and start basic . So the brand of food ,what the meat is in that brand ,the fat / protein levels then factoring in the other added foods and treats . Many dogs can be allergic to chicken ,it could be the treats
  20. what where you feeding before they may factor in foods that ideally to avoid or the fat levels being too high ,that includes treats
  21. Can he see out of either eye . Did you have a chat to the specialist about other options given his age & what did they suggest
  22. The biggest thing about s planning for the winter irrespective, many there are some good quality doggy daycares that your pup can spend a day at,whilst I’m not the biggest fan of many a well run one may be a wonderful tool for a winter pup in London
  23. If you set up the pen you can attach it to the crate So pup has the crate as the bed it’s use to plus the pen area to play, stretch legs, change the toys each day so it’s a new adventure each day . If your camera savvy then set it up so you can watch whilst at work
  24. Depends on your bathroom but there often cold rooms. If pup is use to being in the pen then stick with ,yes as it gets older things will change but as you say there are foxes then that will be a long term issue anyway whether dog is a pup or adult so long term you need to decide what the home routine is going to be so pup gets into a routine .. What you need to be doing before going to work is teaching pup to cope home alone ,you can’t be fussing it during the day as the pup has gone from littermates to new home with company then once older suddenly everyone gone . Whilst you pup has a toilet routine things change with age and I would not expect a pup to hang on so it needs to have a spot where it’s okay to toilet inside . So how often during the day do you go out and leave pup
