Your dog doesn't have HD until diagnosed sorry but to many vets are clueless & often misdiagnose . So what your saying is the specialist will be up,they will knock the dog out, keep under GA whilst they access the x rays consult with you ( i sure hope they are consulting you or are they hoping you will just be pressured ) & during this time your dog is under GA longer than it should be all because they wont knock the dog out now to see. What price tag are they charging for this crazy method .

Sorry but the vet is an idiot if there saying no x rays until just prior to surgery this is not how its done, they should have been done sooner, you had a chance to discuss & understand what is wrong or NOT wrong & discuss with your breeder. You have lost atleast 4 days of this process in which time the X rays would have been sent to the traveling specialist to look over Your dog could simply need a visit to a chiro or bowen massage ,no jumping doesn't mean HD it can have many other factors. My big dogs get the runs when they have pulled muscles Reality is if your pup is over doing it then you need to manage it better & those factors can contribute to HD down the track .

No i wouldn't feed it when your dog comes home to will be crucial to keep the diet as bland as possible . The vets will suggest the can range & yes some dogs wont eat it but its often the best choice until the dogs tummy has settled & no more attacks . Your dog will be high risk of having another attack so you need to consider what gave her this attack ^ avoid it . We have a breed highly predisposed to it & we hand out a diet sheet to suit but sadly many people don't follow it until there dog suffers from it

10 Week Old Chocolate Labrador Puppy With A Yeast Infection In The Ear
Dogsfevr replied to cara&lockie's topic in Puppy Chat
The quantity of food a pup gets when being weaned to a full diet now can still lead up to a diet not working . We do feed RC at times but it does have grains & the likes so if you have a dog that may be "yeasty" then it is a food that can add to the problem. Talk with your breeder about maybe trying a different diet & see what they suggest its good to keep in contact with them. We also feed ivory coat grain free. Do you wish to feed just dry long term or add meat etc etc -
10 Week Old Chocolate Labrador Puppy With A Yeast Infection In The Ear
Dogsfevr replied to cara&lockie's topic in Puppy Chat
You cant exclude food ,every dog is an individual & can react as they get older .Royal Canin does have grains etc etc & you may find your pup is reacting,Did your pup come from a local breeder or interstate ,sometimes the various grasses can set puppies off Does your puppy have yeasty feet ,often the ear isn't the issue but transmitted from feet which may be moist either way you need to treat the feet to stop the issue going on . Humidity can cause moist ears . Has pup been playing in rain ?? These things aren't your fault but just factors that can add to ear issues . Dont tick anything off the could be list ,just pay more attention to whats around . Also treats -
The one thing when comparing US to UK is the grooming you can make an UK dog look american once groomed up . They should be a functional well in mind breed . Also a good Sheltie will win under judges all over ,a good owner will groom according to the judge , A good breeder will mix both lines well & get the best of both sides.

Flying Two Dogs And A Cat From Perth To Nz, Auckland
Dogsfevr replied to Ivory & Beau's topic in General Dog Discussion
It isn't that simple & it depends what you call insane, exporting to NZ is not cheap & you have large dogs . When we exported to NZ we had to use an accredited vet ,we could not use our own . You can take the dog to the vet yourself instead of the transport people as some also have that in there price . I would contact Mooreholme in Victoria for a quote and Sherae Petlink in Perth for prices -
Maybe they weren't the gentlest when doing the job and the jaw is sore ,have to say when mine get a dental they go to our Bowen person for a massage ours does face and jaw,I find some a tad heavy handed whilst there out Does your dog eat poo ?

How Can I Teach My Puppy To Keep Still?
Dogsfevr replied to TheNoseKnows's topic in General Dog Discussion
Teaching a free stack & teaching the dog to stand to be examined is to separate things , Firstly dog is a baby so its no big deal BUT ideally you want to see progress. Personally i am not a fan of stackers & whilst many use them well it still comes back to what you have taught pup to do at present ,what the stackers do is force the dog to stay still or it falls of the stackers ,some dogs then stack terrible because they get scared others do okay . When the judge approaches what do you do??Do you then manually stack or just allow the free stack with no assistance . Not sure what breed you have ? For example in Labs mots are taught to free stack but when the judge approaches youngster handlers will take control of the head To educate the dog what is expected especially with mouthing many will still wiggle because there happy but you need to teach the middle step & to be honest all dogs should be taught to be stacked by hand which is what the stackers require even if a traditional free standing breed -
Have you had her hearing tested(BAER) ,as the breed is predisposed to hearing issues that would be the first thing i would get down. Don't underestimate a dog with limited or hearing in one ear still being alert as they can often use there other senses in a more annoying fashion. She may have good hearing in one ear & not the other

You should have the paperwork from when the dog was chip either from the breeder or yourself ,you can check with them why the details aren't showing or register with a company .

So how old are the pups ,there is a difference between dieting a fat dog and dieting a bitch who has had pups recently ,and if the pups have just been weaned then there is no way I would extreme dieting her I would just let her get back to normal and she will be back in shape at her own time not when we want it

what did the breeder say about being over weight .

Good with kids and good with babies are two very different things . My dogs s how in the ring with kids but there not exposed or comfy with babies . I think when you get to comfy in thinking any dog is bullet proof you often over see the simple basics of a world this dog hasn't lived it before or been exposed too 24/7. Your dog has shown great tolerance in walking away warning you it doesn't mean it hates your baby just has no clue what it is so getting someone to help assess and assist would be great. What sort of training did you do before baby to get it use to it

Help With Night Time Waking Please
Dogsfevr replied to Apple2's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I would suggest you need to be more open minded to teaching them some new options before the baby comes,no matter what the dogs will play second fiddle at first & the dogs wont be able to have free range as the toddler starts to walk & wander .It would be easier for the dogs to adjust now to some new rules before the baby comes along . If your girl is a light sleeper for example her sleep patterns will be very interupted when the baby wakes up at night . I agree if she can hold on in the laundry then there is a degree of not feeling right in the room -
I haven't had owned one but have boarded numerous dogs with it . I think i would have to think long & hard taking on a dog at such a young age with it but i guess it depends on how much time you have & you obviously will be aware of the ongoing costs which for many people is an important factor. Most of the dogs we have boarded have been on such high doses that that where just lethargic zombies, infact it was very depressing seeing dogs live such a life & truly just wanting to sleep & look older than what they are . If you have other dogs keep in mind some do react different around them & if they have a seizure when your not there some dogs will pack on it through fear & the unknown . I guess all you can do is talk with the vet & your vet & see exactly where this dog stands & if you go ahead good for you

Yes you can use the comb but generally i do that for the final finish on my show dogs but just like a hairdresser you dont use the comb & chop you still have to visualize what is to come off & what isn't .As to holding scissors correctly depends on what brand your using, bent shank, straight, curve & the length .We all will have a different style of holding . To trim underlines you need a decent length to get a nice finish .

The bird netting works the best but in the end you can only make it harder & minimize the risks that bring snakes . Keeping the lawns well mowed, mice away etc etc helps. If they have chooks & aviaries then you increase the risk of snakes as with any stock feed . And own some good snake relocation tools & that isn't a shovel

I would be buying CCTV to record what your dog is doing & to truly determine how much barking & if there is a pattern .It would be a good start to see what is factual & have some vision for anyone you seek help wise to be able to view .
