Research Survey About Dog Caretakership In Victoria
Dogsfevr replied to ClarePhD's topic in General Dog Discussion
I never do the surveys especially as we seem to get a lot on here that do ask stupid questions considering what they say they are studying ..In this day and age you can't trust many when it comes to surveys and intent plus gaining info on someone, the animal rights groups are on a roll at present and what better place to pretend to hang out and care -
He isn't skinny ,has a nice tuck looks a great weight for a pup. Growing to fast won't happen on ,its generally more a large/giant breed issue but any dog can suffer growth issues from poor diet .

There is no reason why you cant feed raw now better than canned food etc etc. Obviously being a flat faced breed some foods require more care . I wouldn't leave the food down ,food becomes no value,if pup doesn't look hungry when you plan to feed dont feed him ,its very easy to teach a pup not to eat just as much as creating a pig. Body shape is also another thing ,we get dogs in boarding where the vet & people have said to skinny ,some of these dogs are long in loin & will never look "normal" weight, some are to short in back & look like a rolly polly .With pups they grow in all sorts of stages ,up on leg, fugglies & the gawd lets hide you stage . Your pup is eating you just need to not create an issue by encouraging bad eating habits . Some just don't like the dry they get & as a breeder we will happily discuss with our puppy owners any food issues. Is the dry what the breeder suggested or something else ? Special dietary needs isn't a scary thing ,feed the dry you want & add some basic raw ,add slowly .

5 months most likely teething ,don't pander to much or you will create a monster . Given he will eat he's not being real fussy Bu selective . Do you leave the food bowl down? How many treats does he get during the day keeping in mind some treat giving can be a small meal . Do you plan to just feed dry or are you wanting to feed a combo or dry /meat etc etc

No all breeders list there puppies on DOL ,phone breeders and see what they have planned some may have a young adult they may be wanting to home

You need to join the state canine body you live in. Many states have show handling classes. 5 months is not old but the sooner you can train your puppy for show ring manners the better . If your breeder is willing to help ask them first .they MAY offer to handle your pup at some shows to get the into the groove whilst you learn

Thats a good price .

What are you doing wrong . Keep in mind you have a spitz breed that can be independent & not always switched on for success like other breeds ,that doesn't mean there stupid but what makes them work may not be what fits other breeds . Does your pup still sniff alot The world is more interesting than you when outside, chances are you repeat the same thing over and over again without the dog actually doing the exercise or responding ,it gets rewarded with a treat for pulling & then goes on doing it again .So if your going to treat then it needs to be done during leash training & focus on you & it doesn't have to be food all the time,a fav toy .Food wise for my show dogs i use anything that s not noraml fish fingers ,i have dogs that go mental for bread anything that is exciting but first off voice is there . When pup is in the house does it listen to your voice or more interested in other things People often talk & waffle to the dog until it switches off from what you want & looks at whats more fun . 12 weeks is an easy age to lead train but you are in charge of the machine ,you are the operator so you need to make walking fun ^ pup needs to work for it . My large breed show puppies don't get treated for just walking ,i will use my voice over food any day & i will make being out with me on lead the focus of my voice .I will talk & encourage ,i wll just stop using my voice to tell them how awesome they are .They love the fact that my voice & reward pleases me & they love the world but adore my direction . I don't let my dogs stop & talk to people on walks, walks is for walking. If i wont people to interact then that is done at a different time .

You need to feed apart ,he will soon learn ,chances are they have never been feed apart . If he hasn't eaten in the laundry before feed him where he normally was & put her else where but don't make a fuss & hoover over him whilst he eats . Sounds like she is going to be a bossy girl so set the rules early. They are now at an age where there confidence is maturing ,living together since pups doesn't mean they are the perfect match for each other so its important like already mentioned to do sep walks & training & learn what turns on each pup

Mobile Hydrobathing Services And Dog Skin Issues
Dogsfevr replied to Christina77's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you supply the shampoo, many wash in highly perfumed flea rinse although generally hot spots are more diet related ,stress related ,bites & often worse when dropping coat or staying to moist . I should also say i have an old dog who at near 13 yrs is predisposed to getting a hot spot in an area he has arthritis ,the nerves are more reactive there so he will try to self soothe that leads to a hot spot ,also have seen very itchy dogs due to soreness -
Agree with others would not be rushing at all,I would get a second opinion,if the dog is over weight I would be getting it fit,I would be re educating the dog to its new restrictions before surgery if you go ahead . There is no point having surgery without following the after care restrictions , the f your dog needs to be groomed do so before the surgery

First off i would say watch your not over exercising your pup ,45/90 mins a day is way to much for a large breed breed puppy . If you want something to run that distance then you need to look for an athletic breed ,bassett & Griffon would not do that type of running . Breeds there are plenty Kelpies, smooth Collie & many of the gundog breeds
-
I wouldn't consider a Shilo for competitive agility and they come in all shapes and sizes ,I was in the US last year and the Shiloh national was being held in the rain Ng next door ,they did nothing for me as a breed as there was no consistency,

So has the dog everbeen feed from a bowl? When you say feed raw by hand what do you mean
-
Its hard to say what to expect without knowing what both parties are expecting & what has already been discussed. I gather your in Vic so the show will be indoors,it will be noisey, lacking in space & hard to hear & most likely not the easiest environment to do alot of playing etc etc . Keep in mind they are there to show there dogs first & foremost so be mindful if there getting ready to show to maybe move away ,depending on what letter of the alphabet they are will depend on time between breed & specials. If its the Junior kennel club show during lunchtime they will have a large break due to the junior handler finals so unless these people plan to watch or are loaning a swap dog that may be a good time so when you get there introduce yourself & ask if now is a good time . Questions can be hard to talk at shows & i would leave that to a phone call where you can clearly hear & talk about things without taking up the breeders time.if your solely going to meet them & there dogs in a neutral space just leave it at that .

what month are you getting puppy
-
Did the breeder sell on a spay contract ??
-
Such a shame the breeder can't be bothered acknowledging the efforts you have made ,hopefully the next few months show continued improvement and she becomes a healthy, well adjusted pet
-
Depends on the coat texture, knots & the dog itself & what look they want
