  1. If your in no rush attend the cavalier club of Victoria shows in June to see what there is. I always tell people when attending shows that its more to see the dogs in real life than to go there & talk all day to the people because the day is about people showing there dogs & watching the other exhibits . If you see dogs you like ask for a kennel card .also contact the Cavie club of Vic about what health tests should be done . There are plenty of great breeders in Vic so alot depends if your after a set colour & sex & as for obedience they excel ,they are a sproting spaniel so should be an outgoing dog that is very functional
  2. The back leg issue isn't normal ,have you had it checked??
  3. Maybe he just can't cope with the trains anymore and going home gives him relief .Try going for a car drive and walking where no trains are and see what happens
  4. Ours never wear the cone & tramadal is a high dose pain killer not even our vet uses that for spay . Also alot depends how much area they clipped with the surgical blade ,many get clipper happy & that annoys & irritates the dog more than anything else . Neraly 25 yrs & getting a number of dogs spayed & never a cone & no issues but we use great vets
  5. Some will charge more because they have had a season . We tell our puppy buyers to wait atleast 3 months after there heat. Is your bitch in season now?? as often GSD girls come in older
  6. I would think 6 kg at 8 weeks is fairly small Maremma so her weight at 10 weeks will be based more so on that . Where her parents small?? She may simply be a small lighter framed Maremma but ideally a breeder would mention that the puppy was at this stage a smaller framed one or a big boofer . Without knowing the sizes of the other pups its hard to say & one can only presume that there diet was good with the breeder & all is fine. Yes some liitle ones can grow to full size & others don't
  7. I gather this is based on the same method used in the US although the shelter drives them selves which is highly successful in ensuring the puppies in the shelter get out & about ,in the US they visit such places to give staff time out which has proven great for the work place & enables the puppies to experience out side life before heading down the adoption path . Im not going to say whether this is the same but i have seen plenty of stories about this & it seems to be working well ,The adaption process there is very strict but the main goal is enriching both sides & many that have the "puppy parties" as they call them actually can't own a pet but enjoy donating to the cause & getting a puppy fix at the same time & the work places have found it great
  8. If you are buying from a good ethical breeder they will supply with a diet sheet ,we send our diet sheets out prior so owners can get the food in ,they should also be happy to discuss what equipment which will included grooming equipment & show you how to brush your puppy correctly . Like already mentioned don't go crazy buying collars they do grow so quickly but again ask your breeder what they have found best suits there dogs . Your breeder should be your info source first & foremost & a good breeder really appreciates buyers who ask them for help first
  9. [quote name='Dewclaws' timestamp='1456294473' post='6790821' Is there many entrants in shows ? Might go to the royal this year on the day their being shown to meet some in the flesh . I would wait & go to the shows just before Melb cup ,its a massive weekend of shows including the Gundog club of Vic & many breed shows plus a couple of All Breeds shoved in
  10. I would live with a Flattie over a Lab any day . Flatties i feel are more sensible & a better all round dog . The flatties i have been around have been very active & also very chilled out, more calmer but still a very functioning out going active breed & very bright breed

    New Puppy

My advice run fast ,like already mentioned the mother being ill is no reason at all for the pups to leave early & i agree with Haredown sounds like someone wanting to offload puppies early because its all to hard & i truly hope your not paying alot of money for these puppies Not sure what the law is in your state as to what age pups can even be sold but i would not buy a pup from such a person no matter what . Will the pup be vaccinated & microchipped before you get it ,if they aren't chances are they haven't been vet checked either The person with the litter should be supplying you with a diet sheet of what the pups are currently being feed .keep in mind not all pups are on a good eating regime at 6 weeks & i would certainly be asking alot of questions . As to the needs of the pup alot will come down to how this litter has been raised & that is something you should already now & i gather have seen the pups & now what stage they are at social wise & life experience wise & temp wise.If you haven't seen the pups then you wont now until it arrives just how much work & catch up you will be required to do . The issue you have is raising this under age puppy to be very confident & able to cope without humans all the time so its important not to spoil it in the next few weeks & set the pup up for success not failure
  12. I think firstly you need to sit back & remember your stress is nothing compared to what the dog is going through. The dog is blind & a diabetic plus being old & most likely very reliant on humans to give him comfort & reassurance . How mobile is the dog & is the dog able to find its water bowls, the door & move around the house easily ??or is the dog very reliant on humans to assist when you are home . Does the dog have its smell ?? What is the best option only you now but there will be no quick fix or easy option ,
  13. And don cut the coat around the eyes ,the hair would have had length and hung down everyone trims it so short the hair can be more annoying as growing it often annoys the eye .Buy liquid tears gel from the chemist and put some In at night ,pup is teething do grubby eyes can be an issue and yes blue caked tear ducts .
  14. Is this a new post ?? Did the other one get deleted , Just seen there are two posts going
  15. There are very few Malt breeders around & most don't breed often & there generally small sized litters so basically you could be waiting for some time for A ) a pup & B) a pup suitable to what it needs to pass to be certified .
  16. I got my replacement roofs at Bunnings there oz trail but have air vents at the top ,there great
  17. We fed sep but ours could eat together . Pander now & you create drama down the road. We don't allow grazing here ,feed time is that & if you don't eat it goes away . You have a dog that will stand back & not eat & is fussy. You have a puppy that needs to learn independence & that includes eating . If she becomes a food pig your older boy will most likely eat even less . Eating should be set up for success ,fussy dogs are a nightmare .
  18. Depends on the breed but we tell our puppy buyers to keep it simple & safe because you have plenty of time to buy things . Although my biggest pet hate is the lead & collars some buy ,whilst many want it to look awesome most are not practical for the dog so think of the dogs comfort first ,bedding should be very washable . I would say most people waste to much money when they bring a pup home
  19. Actually the long haired is what you should have got
  20. You need to teach him where is spot is then whether that be a mat/bed or something If you want him to sit on the couch then teach him either way if he doesn't now what you want it wont work
