Do these people show their dogs?
-
More alarm bells are ringing. Why couldn't you see the parents? I would have at least wanted to see the mum.
-
She's very cute but she looks very little. Ho wmuch did you think she weighed? I still find it strange that you had to meet the breeder and puppies in a car park. Wow are Reg STB puppies $2,000?
-
Only breeders I have heard of meeting people in parks have been dodgy Backyard Breeders and Puppy Farmers. There's something a bit strange going on there. Hopefully the puppys have certificates like this.... Registration Papers I would be wanting a full vet report on what is wrong with the puppies other then the description of 'Chills'

Yep my boy is stinking (yeasty), covered in oil and itching. The only thing I can put it down to is the blulbs and blossoms flowering. -
Would You Xray Again- Hd And Ed
puggy_puggy replied to Cosmolo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Poor Mr Dexter. I'd give him a while to see if it was the laying on the concrete was the cause of the latest flair up. If he hasn't improved in the next few weeks then you could consider xraying again. But then again I think you have decided that surgery isn't the best option for Dexter. So if you were using xrays as a guide to how much longer he should be with you I would probably say don't use them like that. Yes the xrays might show further progression of his HD but xrays can't tell you how happy he is and how well he is coping. -
I to would try and find the cause to the itchiness first. Where is the rash? Do they itch all of the time? What do they eat? What do they get as treats? What are the floors washed with? What is there bedding washed with? Do they have fleas? What plants are in the backyard? etc

Sasha's Blend: Palatability
puggy_puggy replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My boy gets it on his food, I feed raw, every night and has no problems with it. Another puggy I've had here gets it on her food and has no problems with it. I think the taste is mainly fishy. It also comes in capsules. -
Pills that come in foil have always been dispensed in foil by the vets I have used. These have been antibiotics mainly. I have been dispensed prednil, rimadyl, valium & antibiotics in either clear plastic bags or plastic containers. Antibiotics and something else have also been dispensed in either manafacturers white bags with writing all of them or manafacturers stiff paper envelopes with writing all over them. The only drugs that have been prescribed as to be used when needed have been the prednil and the valium both of which were dispensed in quantities of less then 20.

The pugs eat most fruits and veggies. They get them as treats and as part of their dinner most nights in the form of slops that have been put through the food processor.

Sudden Increase In Tearing/staining

Glad that this vet was more helpful. I probably would give the antihisamines a go if things don't improve. -
Sudden Increase In Tearing/staining

It does sound like an allergy if her eyes, face and feet are all involved. Have you seen her pawing at her eyes with her feet? This could be how her whole face is becoming stained. If it was just her eyes it may be entropion (eyelashes rolling in and causing irritation to the eyes). She may benefit from some antihistamines. You may also need to use an elizabethan collar to break the cycle and the stop her feet licking. There are many bulbs and wattles that are in bloom now I wonder if that could be what is causing the problem. -
I would get a vet to check his hips out to see if they are popping in and out or if the vet can locate a sore spot. If it was his knees he would be most likely bunny hopping rather then limping. I would also be resting him if you notice him limping again.
-
It really could be anything. What leg is he limping on and where does the limp seem to be coming from?

I would cut down her normal food and add food processed veggies and fruit to keep her full. -

I wouldn't let her jump on and off things as this impacts on the joints in a big way. Doggie steps could fix this problem. If she is carrying any extra weight at all get it off her. Massage, physio etc could be helpful. Making sure she has a good bed that is not on a cold surface or in the way of any cold draughts. Cartrophen injections might be of use. You could also talk to your vet about other alternatives to Previcox that might be more helpful for her. -
Eyesight Issues In Older Dogs
puggy_puggy replied to GreyGirlQld's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sounds like he just has general aging of the lense which occurs in all dogs as they get older. He could also have cateracts. Your normal vet should be able to see and diagnose these two things quite easily. You may need to see a specalist for them to look at the back of the eyes as they have specialised equipment. I would doubt that his not wanting to snuggle with other dogs is due to his eyesight at all. Some dogs just can't cope with snuggling and most likely grew up on their own with their own space. Probably look for him bumping into things or getting a fright when you go to pat him. -
If the bone has healed the plate and screws are not needed. Plates are not usually taken out because that would mean more surgery the dog has to go through. Maybe it's the screws that are causing the problem. I'm not sure what they are made of. I would be wanting xrays done before anything was done personally. And yes morphine would be one of the cheapest things on the bill. Fingers crossed that everything goes well.

Could be either UTI or he is trying to show you who is boss and is marking things. You don't necessarily have to see visable blood for there to be a UTI.

Im really not sure that you would be able to feel anything stuck in the esophogas. A puggy that I was looking after had several bits of lamb ribs about 5cm long stuck at the distal end of her esophogas and it took xrays to show that there was something there. And then an endascope and emergency surgery confirmed what the xrays showed. After the pugs surgery to remove the bone fragments she was on antibiotics and small amounts of boiled chicken mince for a few days. I wouldn't be feeding soaked dry food unless it's very small and she chews it up before she swallows. Why does she have to stay outside? If I had a dog with either suspected KC or irritated esophogas I would have it inside under observation.

Oh that's fantastic news Elfin. Does the vet have any idea of what is causing the lymph nodes to be swollen? Could it be a canine version of Glandular Fever or similar?

They Want To Operate On My Puppy!
puggy_puggy replied to LeeJane's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
If she is still pooing then I would have my doubts that it would be a blockage. With a blockage she may still be happy to eat but might feel uncomfortable after doing so. Does she have any soreness in her gut area when they prod and poke her? How often did she throw up? Is she eating normally? Did the vet conduct barium xrays? What are the blood tests for? (to test for pancreatitis and a full blood panel?) $2,000 seems like alot for the surgery. I just had a pug that had to undergo emergency surgery as she had bits of bone stuck at the distal end of her osophagus. She was kept at the vets from 8am till 7pm under obs and having barium xrays on one day which I think cost approx $500. The next day she was in there again at 8am had xrays, then was put under and an endascope used to try an dpush the bones down into her stomach. With this failing her abdomon was cut open and an incision made in her stomach through which they were able to remove the bones from her osophegus. I was able to beg them to send her home that night so picked her up at 8pm. Total cost for that day was approx $1,100. I think the surgery was only about $800.
