  1. I have both Claratyne and vet prescribe Prednil in case of allergic reactions.
  2. Many people feed two meals a day to their adult dogs. It's all about the amount you feed and what you feed.
  3. Food can make any dogs fight even pugs. Personally I think you are heading towards big problems when one of them decideds they do not want to share. How often are you feeding Erik and how much? Perhaps feed less or if he decides he has had enough remove the food and serve it for the next meal.
  4. I have only heard good reports in terms of big and healthy litters of breeders who have feed their bitches BARF/raw diets.
  5. Strange they didn't do a blood panel. A friends boxer had a similar fit. The boxer is old but had no previous episodes. An MRI was perormed but nothing found. The owner had recently installed one of those air freshners that sprayed every half an hour or so and thinks that that may of somehow trigged the fit.
  6. Go with what your vet says but yes Revolution is one treatment that can be used.
  7. I am so sorry to hear that it is cancer but please don't feel guilty. Love and cherish Lucy whilst you can. Radiation therapy is different in dogs to humans. But saying that I don't think that I would put my dog through such things if it only ment a few extra months were gained. If it could give a few extra years then I may consider it.
  8. I'm thinking maybe entropion as well. (eyelashes rolling in onto the eye and rubbing/irritating) No I would not think it was normal for my dogs eye/s to run all of the time. Yes there are eye specalists for dogs.
  9. I was always of the thought that breeders put down clefts pretty much straight away because they fail to thrive and wont survive. But it seems that the pup you have might just survive because she seems to be thriving. I guess you have to weigh up what her future life is going to be like and if she is going to have a good quality of life. My point of view is that any disability in a dog can be managed and a happy life can be lead. If the right owner who is willing and able to put in the time is available. But saying that I would never keep a dog alive if it was not a happy life. I can understand why breeders put down puppies with problems because in theory you will never be able to sell, show, breed with it and the time and effort that it may take to look after it is beyond you. b.jane05 if the puppy continues to thrive and you are willing to put in the extra time and effort it takes to look after a disabled dog then go for it. But as you have said you know that if she is suffering you are prepared to let her cross the bridge.
  10. Please don't tie him up. Invest in a good crate or puppy pen.
  11. Is your 8 month old desexed? It sounds very much like he is testing you and she is joining in. Go back to the basics of toilet training. If they can not be trusted without supervision block off sections of the house with baby gates or puppy pen or crate them. Edited to add: I have just seen that your girl is pregnant. It's more then posible that this is causing your boy to act up.
  12. Another vote for getting professionals to remove it and soon. I to have heard of dogs that have died nasty deaths from asbestos.
  13. The basic principles if you choose to feed vegies & fruit is that the majority are green leafy ones. Softer non weight bearing bones are the best. For two rescue pug puppies I fostered last year lamb bone offcuts were my choice. There were fed these from the time they came into rescue at approx 7 weeks old.
  14. If you feed dogs, especially growing puppies, meat without bones you are going to end up with massive imbalances and problems. Bone deformities is just one of them. Educate yourself on RAW, BARF, PREY MODE etc feeding. There are many good website and books available. Young pups should be fed 10% of their body weight three times a day. Grains, which include rice, are not required by dogs. If you choose to feed veggies and fruit then they should be pulped/food processed to break down the cellulose walls. Many people feed pups bones from a very young age. Puppy BARF Diet Approximately 10% of their body weight daily 70 to 80% of which should be Raw Meaty Bones and 20 to 30% vegies, offal & dairy, divided up into 3 meals a day. Breakfast & Dinner Puppy mince(minced chicken carcasses) & veggie slops (small amounts of fish, kangaroo, beef, offal, youghurt etc can be mixed in on alternating days) Lunch raw meaty bone BARF SLOPS INGREDIENTS & METHOD Things I always include: - container of alfala spouts - bunch of spinach (roots cut off) - bag of carrots - bunch of celary - 4 zuccinis - 3 to 4 oranges (peeled) - 1 pumpkin - 2 to 4 apples (pips taken out) - 2 to 4 bannanas (peeled) - bunch of silverbeat - 4 oranges - 8 to 10 eggs (whole including shell) - flaxseed oil (approx 250mL) (some people choose to not include this and add to the food daily) - kelp (approx 100g) What else you can put in: - 1 to 2 green capsicums (stalk cut off & seeds out) - 1 to 2 red caspsicums (stalk cut off & seeds removed) - turnip - squash - 2 to 4 pears - half to 1 pinapple - brussel sprouts - brocoli - cauliflower - bag of beans - Apple Cider Vinegar - Vitamin C Chop up then process up in blender/food processor so that things turn to slops. Put each blender batch into a big bucket. Usually leave the eggs & flaxseed oil for things that don't blend very well like the pumpkin and carrots. Ingredients should fill up a bucket. Mix bucket with big ladel till all mixed through then put into take away containers & freeze untill needed.
  15. What do you do when you see you female getting up to steal your males treat? You need to tell her off before she even gets to steal it. Unless you can stand and supervise and stop this behaviour form occuring puppy pen then seperatley.
  16. Many puppies are given C5 for their 12 and 16 week vaccination.
  17. It's not something I would be to worried about. I am no expert but you do see dogs that have visable third eyelids. Perhaps flush his eye out with cammomile tea. I usually use a slightly warm teabag, put it over the eye and squeeze the liquid out into the eye. You could also use some luke warm salty water. Keep watch of the eye and if you notice any swelling, redness, cloudiness, scratch marks, blinking, holding the eye shut etc get a vets advice quickly.
  18. A diet of only one type of meat with no bone content is not a well rounded one and will lead to problems in the long run. There are many threads on DOL about raw feeding. I like THIS website for it's explaination about BARF feeding
  19. Glad to hear that the trilostane has stopped any more decline in health for Deisel. So you didn't end up getting another MRI after his radiation to see if the tumour had shrunken? Is the effectiveness of the radiation measured by signs and symptoms?
  20. Vibes for your girl. Like everyone else has said. Wait for the test results to come back and take it from there.
  21. Ahh ok it's the back leg. Could it be OCD (Osteochondrosis Dissecans)? Wing Tip Wong is a brilliant orthopedic surgeon down here in Melbourne. Perhaps you could contact him and he would be able to set you on the right path to what is going on and who to see. http://www.vch.unimelb.edu.au/staff.php?staffID=523
  22. Any idea why he is limping? Knuckling? Early Growth Plate Closure?
  23. I think you are a fantastic breeder choosing not to breed with a dog that has allergies and other issues. The rescue bitches that I have had here that have been on heat we have waited untill two to three weeks untill they had finished to desex. I think it's more a case of making sure the swelling, that being on heat causes to the tissues, resolves then anything else. I would think that in your bitches case you don't have a set timeline so I would wait a four weeks or so after she finishes her season and then desex.
  24. One of the owners of a puggy I pugsit highly recommends Ann.
