  1. Any improvement yet with cutting the food down and changing it?
  2. I would also recommend getting her elbow, shoulder or even neck checked out. You could also have a good poke and prod of her foot and whole leg, shoulder and neck yourself to see if she has any sore bits. The conditions you are thinking about that are diet related occur in much younger dogs who are still growing and feet usually point outwards like ballerinas. With your dog being 3.5 her bones, muscles and ligaments would have finished growing so unless seh has had the problem since puppyhood it wouldn't have just occured.
  3. Lots of vibes for Diesel. What did his last scan show had happend to his tumour?
  4. I looked into the liquid but could only find stuff that was heavily flavoured to disguise the taste.
  5. Fingers crossed it was the hairtie and Molly's hair that caused the problems.
  6. Could he be having some type of fit/stroke/turn before this all occurs? I have seen dogs licking the air before they need to vomit.
  7. Poor poppet. If your vet is a good vet and feels confident in doing the surgery then they should be able to do it. The risk in any type of gastric/bowel surgery is perforation, leakage of gastic juices, leakage of bowel material which can turn the whole thing septic. I do believe that Charles Kuntz can uses a specific tecnique with bowel surgery that actually has the bit of the bowel that has had the incision and sutuers placed on the outside of the body to heal. And when it has done so it is then put back into the stomach cavity. Last month a puggy that I was looking after had to have emergency surgery to remove bits of bones from her osopegus. They had to go through her stomach to get them out. Um Wing Tip Wong is a brilliant orthopedic surgeon and nurosurgeon.
  8. My pug boy is an itchie scratchie yeasty dog. Things have improved alot since feeding all raw but I find that after baths he is really itchie as well. Just like your boy cowanbree. But it does vary in severity throughout the year. I have to bath him as he starts to stink after more then a week. I use Evening Primrose Oil shampoo. And then if he is to itchie I will give him an antihistamine. If things get to bad he gets one prednil tablet.
  9. Many dogs are don't like the texture of offal which liver is . When I first introduced offal to the pugs they weren't to keen but now they love it like any other food. Keep trying. Maybe mix it in with some of her other food. Are you actually wanting to put weight on your dog or put muscle. Feeding a dog extra food is not going to put muscle on them. What sort of exercise does she get? Swimming is great for building muscle. Your girl is only young as well. Many dogs do not fill out till they are at least a year and a half to two years of age. It sounds as if you are wanting to feed her a raw type diet. Get rid of the pasta. Offal is only one component of a raw diet. Raw meaty bones should make up the majority of the diet. Then muscle meat, offal, dairy, fruit & veg etc. This website has some great infor on raw feeding. HERE
  10. Personally I wouldn't be feeding any dry or processed food at all but I feed a RAW/BARF diet. Info on BARF feeding If you decide you want to continue with dry food I would be feeding minced chicken carcusses, chicken necks, chicken wings etc and raw meaty bones rather then just plain mince. If you would like help menu planning let me know.
  11. She should be ok. I'm sure your vet told you to watch for elevated heartreate and breathing. My pug boy ate nearly a whole packet of Tim Tams when he was much younger and he was fine.
  12. Jodie, who runs Boxer Rescue Victoria, has just bought the old Bayswater Pet Supplies. She has called it 'For Your Paws Only' and has a new meat licence so is back selling fresh minced veggies, roo, rabbit, chicken, chicken necks, beef mince etc. All of the chicken is La Iionica. 747 Mountain Highway, Bayswater p: 9729 6284 I know Jodie has fed her boxers and pug raw/prey mode for years.
  13. If clear margins are gained with MCT I don't think that chemo is necessary. Or am I totally incorrect. I supposed you would have to weigh up the risk of the GA and the shock of surgery and how long the surgery might prolong the dogs life.
  14. A big wet scab doesn't sounds very good at all. The area shouldn't have even looked like that after the surgery. Has the dressing been changed since the surgery? Could you put an elizabethan collar on Bruno so that he does not lick the stitches? I've had a pug that had a cast on over two rows of stitches on her leg and the incissions healed up fine without being exposed to air. Normally I would think that exposing the stitches and incission to air would be the optimum choice for healing.
  15. I think that most vets that have knowledge on this condition would rather no strap or splint the legs as it does not allow the muscles and tendons to work for themselves and therefore learn to self correct themselves. Hopefully there has not been early growthplate closure of the radius and reducing his food and making sure the bone and meat ratio is correct will fix things up quickly. If the legs/feet have no shown any improvement within the next two weeks I would look at xraying to see what is going on with the radius and ulna. Do you have any photos?
  16. If there is not to much fat on the meat I wouldn't worry about trimming it off. If it was very fatty I would.
  17. Definatley drop his food back. Have a look at the make up of the dry food you are feeding. Has the chicken mince got bone in it? If things are going to improve they should do so over a week or so once you drop the food back and make sure it's the correct ratio of everything.
  18. Yes I have seen great results with Cyclosporin but have seen even more fantastic results with Tacrolimus. I would recommend to anyone that has a dog with PK, no matter what the cause of it is (dry eye, entropion, injury), to give their dog a go on the Tacrolimus. It takes several months to start seeing results if the PK is bad but you will see them.
  19. 8 weeks is a long time for this to have been going on. Hopefully there is not permanant damage in terms of early growth plate closure. Have a look at the amount you are feeding and what you are feeding. Cut back the amount of food. Do not add extra calcium. Make sure the food you are feeding has the right ratio of calcium (bone) to phosphorus (meat). You might find this website useful
  20. It could be your other dog isn't digesting her food properly so it still is appealing when it comes out the other end. What do you feed? She could be missing digestive enzymes or the food could be to rich or full of grains. Could also be a habit. Some people say that feeding pineapple deters poo munching. Others say that feeding charcoal tablets or buiscuits also acts as a deterent.
  21. Has she seen an eye specalist? If she has big eyelid openings she could have corner eyelid closures to make them smaller and reduce the amount of eye exposed. Does she have pigementary keratitis due to the dry eye? Tacrolimus is the new generation of Cyclosporin and much much more effective. (It is used in humans generally to stop organ rejection after transplants and they are now using Tacrolimus instead of the older Cyclosporin as well.) At present it's really only the eye specalists that will make up the Tacrolimus drops. The specalist I use over here in Melbourne makes the drops up for about $60.
  22. I am very sorry about Molly. Pets In Heaven look like a fantastic company and are the people I have in the back of my mind when one of my lot needs to cross the bridge.
  23. Is he wanting to go to the toilet or is she wanting food? Are you feeding her when she wakes up at 5am? If not what are you doing when she starts carrying on at 5am? Where does she sleep? The days are getting longer and dawn in getting earlier. There is every possibility that she is sensing and seeing day break so thinks it's time to get up.
