  1. 1. Most dogs love anything stinky and go wild for manuare, dynamic lifter etc. Fence off the manure to stop him getting from it. 2. Sounds like he testing you and trying to show you who's the boss by marking. Only solution is to watch him like a hawk when he is inside and tell him off if he goes to pee. You need to make it clear to him that peeing inside on his bed is not accepted. 3. Tell him off if he goes nuts. If he is in the crate and going nuts leave him and either ignore, tell him off or a bit of both. He has learnt that if he goes nuts then you come running and pay attention to him.
  2. Most likely a reaction to the vaccination. Massage it and and it will slowly and it will resolve itself within a few weeks.
  3. I believe that my pug Winston my be still a little unhappy/depressed or it could be possibly that he is still a little unsure after his sudden complete vision loss that occured a little over a month ago now. The reason I think this is because for alot of the time he walks around with his tail down. And when a pugs tail is down, not curled tightly up over their hip you know that something is not right. Saying this he does not mope around or sit in one spot but I do believe that being blind and having to think more about things has made him more tired then before. He joins in daily activities basically the same way as he did before blindness. His tail does go up when you pat him, tell him he's a good boy, you arrive home from somewhere and he greats you and when he goes for walks etc. He has attended two Christmas Parties, one with lots of people and the other with lots of people and dogs, during both the whole time he had his tail up. From my side of things when he first went blind I was an absolute mess but I did not baby him. I may have given him more hugs but I basically continued on with normal life whilst bursting into tears alot. Perhaps he knew that I was crying and upset but I don't think it had any effect on him. Now I try to make him as independent as possible and reinforce that he is still top dog in the pack. The only time that I will baby him is to carry him down my internal stairs as they are just to dangerous for a blind dog to be trusted on. Other times if he is lost or unsure I will hold his collar and guide him or call him till he works things out. He's a smart dog and I want him to know I know he is. I hope that as time progresses his unhappiness/depression/unsureness that causes him not to hold his tail up all of the time lessons and he will again curl his tail all of the time again one day.
  4. Remove all grains from his diet. I think you might find this will basically solve his yeasty problem.
  5. You could also try a poltice to draw the seeds out if it occurs again.
  6. Pour Bi Carb of Soda over the pee and let it soak it up. Remove the wet Bi Carb and keep applying and removing untill all of the pee is gone.
  7. Fantastic news. Yes his breathing will continue to improve as the swelling goes down.
  8. Interesting that you have posted this. My 8 year old desexed male pug was confirmed to be 100% blind with the cause being SARDS last Thursday. His ERG flatlined meaning his retinas have gone to god. He does not have Cushings or any other illness. I'm sorry to say that the IVIg treatment is not a miracle cure it was made out to be by those conducting it in America. The eye specalists treating Winston, here in Melbourne, actually experimented with the IVIg transfusions 9 or so months ago but found that it showed no results with their SARDS dogs. If it was a viable treatment they would have offered it to Winston and I would have been maxing out my credit card there and then. There was a big worldwind of publicity when the Americans first started the IVIg treatment but they have not published any results and nothing has been heard from them in the last year or so.
  9. Poor little poppet. Could it be a form of ankylosing arthritis? Ankylosing is when the bones to fuse.
  10. Do not let them eat out of the same bowl!!!! Do not let them wonder between bowls and pick and choose as they like!!! It's not cute it just causes trouble. With any breed of dog you are looking for trouble if you let them wonder up to another dogs bowl whilst it is eating. You are the boss you have to let them know it is not acceptable to move from their own bowl. Use a loud voice and tell then 'no' if one starts heading towards the other ones bowl. Use a water spray bottle for reinforcement. If you can not control them with these to things then puppy pen them seperatley or feed them in sperate rooms or parts of the yard.
  11. The first one is a very rare 'Lambpoo' for sure.
  12. I had one rescue girl on atropine, for an eye ulcer, and she would literally foam at the mouth after I had put the drops in her eye. Obviously it isn't very tasty.
  13. If he chews and rips the necks apart like a bigger bone then there is no problem in feeding them whole. Always remember to supervise. My pugs are little piggies and try to eat a chicken necks whole and end up choking on them. So I don't trust them with whole ones. I cut the chook necks up into bite sized pieces for them.
  14. What is she fed? I have come across many pugs with yeast infections due to the food they are fed. Once they were put onto a raw grain free diet hey presto the yeast infections dissapeared.
  15. :p Brush her daily, slowly increasing the time. Get her used to being calm while being groomed. I doubt that taking her to obedience training will help with staying calm whilst being groomed.
  16. Steriods have made no improvement so now it could be SARDS. He will be having an ERG on Thursday to try and give us some answers and to rule out a brain tumour.
  17. I have been told by vets and vet nurses it's is fine to split Revolution tubes between dogs. Why would it be any different to Advocate? I think there is a ml per kg dosage rate somewhere in most products litrature. My method is to cut the bottom off the tube and use a drawing up needle to suck it into a syringe. Take the needle off and dole out the correct amount to each dog.
  18. If you want your puppy to toilet outside start training them to go outside from day one. Newspaper and puppy pads confuse them in the long run.
  19. If possible I wash all pugs before they have surgery as it will be two weeks, when the stiches are removed, before they can be bathed again.
  20. I am glad that Diesel is still with you. It sound slike he is living every day to it's fullest. If he is suffering he will let you know.
  21. Drontal is fine. I have used the chewables. Also use have used the canex tablets (because they have been free with heartworming products) and sentanile spectrum. I think that it is suggested to change the brand of your intestinal wormer every so often so the wormies don't build up a tolerance to a particular brand.
  22. I think the scenting works by the stronger it is the closer to the object or area the dog knows it is. Apparently you reapply the scent every four or so weeks.
  23. No sight improvement as yet Elfin. But I think we are both getting more used to things. I walk him with his sister on his blind side so that he bangs into her instead of other things. :D Specalist (at your clinic ) really is as baffled as I am about the whole thing. Thankfully we have almost certainly ruled out SARDS or a brain tumour. Pupils both react to light. The specalist could see nothing internally and certainly nothing externally that would have lead to blindness in the particular eye. Next step is the light test to see if the retina reacts but that is a week away.
  24. Thanks BittyMooPeeb. Not sure how the citronella is working either but maybe it is. Someone else has told me that deep heat or dencorub might be an alternative. I don't think he has had any of this sight return but the determined little bugger is going up and down the double story steps without much of a problem now.
