  1. Does he constantly have a head tilt? I know of a pug that has something similar. I believe he was under a year old when it first started. When I looked after him a few years ago he would basically have what I would describe as 'fits' every now and again. These 'fits' ment that he would tilt his head to the side, stare up at you like a dolphin, and walk sideways/lopsided for anything from a few minutes to 10 minutes. It didn't seem to be causing him any pain or distress. The classic vestibular syndrome usually occurs in older dogs. They have a sudden attack and can take weeks to recover fully.
  2. Desex the dog before it is rehomed and screen the potential new owners as well as possible.
  3. Great stuff. He will thank you for it. In the last month the rescue have gotten over 2kg off a pug x girl who came into rescue seriously obese. She is thriving on her weight loss.
  4. The pugs here get sardines once or twice a week.
  5. Take her to an eye specalist. I would recommend Animal Eye Care in Malvern http://www.animaleyecare.com.au/
  6. I don't think you would have enough pressure for the water to do any good even if you found a bucket with an attachement to fit the hand held dog shower.
  7. Yes I would opt for surgery. MCT have good outcomes if a clear margin can be gained.
  8. Pedigree pugs do turn up in rescue.
  9. Slightly off topic but if you would consider another pug we may be able to help you out. We have Willie & Missy available for adoption and many more puggies in our care that will be ready for new homes in the near future. Willie & Missy on PetRescue
  10. Vet. Unless you have the fluro staining eye drops to see if there is a scratch on it.
  11. Victims of our callous society Kelly Ryan From: Herald Sun January 08, 2010 12:00AM http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/victims-o...o-1225817141940 HEARTLESS humans dumping adorable animals in record numbers have forced a shelter to turn cats and dogs away for the first time since its doors opened in 1984. Staff at the Australian Animal Protection Society in Keysborough are distraught at the large numbers of cats and dogs callously dumped on their doorstep when they turn up for work every morning. Three kittens left for dead in a sealed box yesterday were lucky to have been found in time. Mother and daughter Sue and Tash McKeough were crying when they arrived at the shelter after rescuing the terrified trio from certain death at Sandown railway station. "We heard they were turning animals away here because they are too full but with three cats, two dogs and a three-week-old baby at home we just couldn't keep them," a tearful Tash McKeough said. "But by dumping them and leaving it to us to save them and hand them over to the AAPS, these cruel people put us in the same position." With a "No Kill" policy in place whenever possible, the shelter is overflowing with hard-to-home animals begging for a second chance with a loving new family. Bull arab Elly is pure joy on three legs as she deftly chases, herds, pins down and chomps on a soccer ball. It is impossible to understand how the nine-month-old, who must have accumulated some big vet bills in her short life, is now homeless. Just as able and fast as a four-legged canine, she sits on command and looks deliriously happy when playing ball with a human. In a poignant example that animals often show more compassion than humans, black kitten Shadow, a female aged 16 weeks, has protectively befriended Sonny, a 14-week-old white male, who is deaf. AAPS animal welfare co-ordinator Sue Thompson said it would be impossible to separate the pair, whose bond is already strong. Ms Thompson said a combination of the economic crisis, a third kitten-breeding season for the year, interstate relocations and unwanted Christmas presents had filled the shelter to overflowing. "It is a horrendous situation for us because we are here to try to help these animals find new homes," she said. "But with so many coming in we are run off our feet, out of room and - with no sign of a let-up - at our wits' end " The Australian Animal Protection Society is at 10 Homeleigh Rd, Keysborough. 12. The other dogs are rude and are trying to dominate him. Your entire female would probably tell them off if they tried this on her so they don't bother.
  13. I put dozen or so raw eggs, including the shells, through the food processor with all the other veggies and fruit to make up the batches of the pugs BARF slops.
  14. Don't worry I can remember when my boy did the same thing many years ago. If I locked him out of my bedroom he would go and pee in the bathroom to get even with me. I can even remember pee being on the bed. You would tell him off for something and he would give you lip back. Crazy little pugs and their big attitudes.
  15. Hormones have kicked in and he is testing you to see if he can be the boss. Go back to basics.
  16. I think that Pet Rescue might like to know about this.
  17. I know that Shar Pei rescue had two Chow Chows a while back. Perhaps contact them.
  18. Um those are photos look like completely different dogs. If they are the same dog I don't understand why they had to remove so much skin. The poor boy.
  19. We have a Facebook page and so do other rescue groups Vic Dog Rescue, Shar Pei Rescue and Rescue with Love. PUG RESCUE & ADOPTION VICTORIA INC. on Facebook Vic Dog Rescue on Facebook Shar Pei Rescue on Facebook Rescued With Love on Facebook
  20. Try some luke warm salty water on the sores, antihistamines and an elizabethan collar. Zinc powder (curash is sold in most supermarkets and used for babies) could also be used on the sores to dry them out. I am a recent convert to the Furminator (a brand of dog brush) which might be usefull in removing some more of your boys hair. Have a look on ebay for some great deals. (go for a medium or large) Perhaps also have a look at his diet. Clipping him might also help. He already has a scruffy coat so I am guessing that you wouldn't be to concerend about how it would grow back.
  21. Why not try raw meaty bones first. Lamb flaps, lamb necks or even chicken necks, wings etc.
  22. Play humping is more to do with dominance. They are trying to show the other one who is boss. It's not something I encourage at my house. Cleaning/licking can also a dominance thing. In the majority of cases the dominant dog will do the cleaning of the submissive dog. My male cleans my females ears and face. He is the top dog of the pack.
  23. A puppy that is shaking constantly, lethargic, limping, has a nasty rash it's mouth and nose, has swollen and runny eyes and covered in fleas needs to be at a vets. She sounds very sick. My advice would be to get her to a vet and quickly. If you choose not to then things you can do that may help her would be - Give her a bath and get rid of the fleas with a flea treatment that you can buy from the majority of supermarkets. How did she suddenly become so infested? Cammomile tea can be usefull for soothing inflamed eyes. Dunk tea bags in luke warm water, place over the eye, and let some of the tea run into the eyes. Do not let her run around. Keep her crated or in a confined spot.
  24. Could be the hot humid weather you have had over the past month. I would probably not use the conditioner.
