  1. Don't worry Pug Rescue is here to help you little one.
  2. I would want a clarification as to what the actual skin issue was and a full vet history of the consults and treatments. Temporarily stitching his eyes sounds a bit strange. If it turns out the skin problem was demodex mange then you might consider paying for some of the other treatment as it is thought to be a genetic issue. It is highly advised that parents that have produced puppies with demodex mange should not be mated again. If it turns out to be caused by something else then only pay for the eye treatment.
  3. Why are you not supervising all food times? I bet you have your answer there. He is eating two meals as well as getting food from other members of your household. If other people in your house must feed your dogs make it clear to them that it can only be fruit and vegtables. Cut up some carrot etc that they can reach for as a treat instead of high calorie junk treats. If you, for some reason, can not supervise your dogs when they are eating. Get some puppy pens. Put one dog in one pen with it's food and another dog in the other pen with its food. My guess is that Ollie should weigh less then 9kg. So if he is sitting on over 11kg he is obese! Fantastic work. Low calorie diets will not kill them. If they stay obese it will. Sadly it seems that 90% of the pugs that have come into rescue in the last 6 months are obese. There previous owners say that they have had them on a diet but could only get a bit of weight off or they don't even recognise thier pugs are fatter then pigs. On average an obese pug spends at least 2 months with us getting their excess weight off. Also sadly so many pugs owned by people are obese. We had a stall at a local pet expo a few weekends back. There would have been 20 or so pugs come buy with their owners and 90% to 95% of them were obese. Pugs are only little dogs. They don't need alot of food!
  4. He probably only needs 1/2 a cup or less. Bones are massive meals. Do you feed him treats? What are your kids, partner and others in the house feeding him behind your back? If he is an older pug then most do best on 1.5% of their ideal body weight of raw food daily. We just had two very obese pugs come into care. One weighing 12.6 kg when it should be less then 9kg and the other 10.2kg when it should be less then 7kg. We will have them losing 500grams a week so hopefully 2kg in a month. They will not leave us untill they have lost all of their excess weight.
  5. Depends on the grade and if they hop/skip as to whether I would choose to have surgery performed. Keeping the dog skinny and using joint supplements help. Also building up the muscles can also help.
  6. Crate! Especially because he has just come out of a pound. I would not be letting the kids touch him.
  7. Goodluck. Advocate contains Moxidectine, although not nearly as big a dosage rate as Frankie gets orally daily.
  8. You may want to read about our generalised demodex mange boy Frankie. DOL Forum Thread His photo sequence can be found on our Facebook Page Basically we have let the body do the work from the inside out and have only used Malaseb shampoo twice a week externally. The skin and hair follicles need to be open and able to breath. Kill the mites, get rid of any infection, boost the immune system and the hair will start to regrow. Once it does it will be at an amazing rate. Frankie had no hair on his face and head one week and literally 7 to 10 days later had a fine fuzz. Internally Frankie has been taking the medications moxidectine and rilexine. His diet has been totally raw with flaxseed oil, evening primrose oil and green tea added to it.
  9. You may find that the crust needs to be removed as it is dead skin and dirt. Do this by moistening the crusties and gently scraping it off with your finger nail. Lots of pugs have crusty noses because thier owners don't understand that the crust can be removed.
  10. Is her trachea collapsing or does she have and elongated soft pallet?
  11. Crate or perhaps your vet could board him for the day.
  12. Vibes for your girl. I have had a little pug girl undergo surgery to remove bones stuck at the end of her osophegus, just before the opening of her stomach. She ate the lamb ribs on a Thursday and nearly died on the Friday morning, started frothing at the mouth and nose and passed out, but I performed mouth to snout which bought her back. She sat all day Thursday at the vets where they did a series of barium xrays, which showed the bones stuck where they were. They didn't move as hoped so by Thursday afternoon the vet had organised to go and pick up an endascope on the Friday morning, which was supposed to be his morning off. They sent her home with me on the Thursday night, at closing time, and we hoped the bones would naturally move themselves into the stomach. Opening time Friday she was back at the vets for more barium xrays and they showed the bones had not moved so at lunchtime they put her under to use the endascope. It was hoped they would be able to push the bones down into the stomach with the scope but they would not move. The worry now was that the osophegus would puncture and start to die off which would mean that she would die as well. They ended up opening her up and cutting through her stomach and somehow being able to reach up and pull the 7 or 8 little pieces of bone, that were stuck in her osophegus, out. After making it through the operation the worry still was that her osophegus would die off, as it may have been damaged, and the incision they had cut in her stomach not healing. I was able to convince them to let her come home very late that night. At about 1am she rose up in her crate, wagged her tail and asked what all the fuss was about.
  13. Or she wants to play with the kitty.
  14. The majority of the dogs have been traced to other properties just like the Paxtons. And yes Leslie Paxton is registered breeder with a Dogs Victoria prefix.
  15. I've found the opposite with my boy. He was a real pain. He'd pee on anything and everything. Every fence gate, door, post, washing machine.... After i had him desexed a few months back, there has been a big improvement in this. No doubt it's not an option for BL, but it did make a big improvement in my dogs case. I have adult dogs and bitches, that were desexed as puppies, here that still marked in the house because their previous owners basically let them be feral or they lived outside their entire lives. The current entire male I have here, who is 8 months old, is a very good boy and knows he is only allowed to piddle outside. I think desexing can help but it has to do more with what they think they can get away with.
  16. Bone perforated osophegus/stomach/bowels and that section is dying or dead? If this is the case you would have a very sick dog and need to do something about it vey quickly.
  17. It all comes down to training. You make the rules and make him learn them. Constant supervision of him, inside and anywhere else you don't want him to pee, would help. If he goes to lift his leg in the areas you don't want him you tell him off. Keep him on a lead if you have to. It's not really entire dogs that mark, it's basically untrained dogs that mark which can also include females.
  18. With the fatties that come here I usually rotate their meat/bone around whatever is on offer but always stick to little servings that include the veggie slops. Chicken necks make up alot of their meals but if I have rabbit, kangaroo, fish etc they will get that for some meals as well. I can usually get the fatties to lose at least 2kg a month.
  19. :D ;) OMG. What is wrong with people? If the woman did not want the dog why did she not just send it back? I guess it's easier to make up lies, dump a dog at a vets and tell them to kill it then admit to a rescue group have changed your mind and don't want it. In regards to ownership. With our rescue group we have people sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee up front but we do not sign the microchip form over untill our two week trial period is over.
  20. Have had hernias in females at the end of the desexing suture line. Something to do with either the stitches failing or something not being trimmed back enough. Something is not right there.
  21. I wouldn't bath him any more. Spot on products need the dog to have some skin oil to help distribute the product to work properly. Grab some Capstar and give it every day untill the fleas are gone.
  22. So if he wont eat dry and he wont eat raw what has he been eating? Was he eating with you? Get him onto minced chicken carcuss that can be mixed with veggie slops for breakfast and dinner. Lamb bone for lunch.
