Ok then... A really simple one, that I think many dogs probably do. Whenever anyone is sick Malcolm seems to take on the role of nursemaid and spends all his time with them. He was constantly at my mum's side when she had the swine flu backed up by pneumonia. And I don't think it was just so he could steal her tea, eggs and toast when she wasn't looking. Reminds me of my in-laws' cattle dog. Born on a farm but raised entirely in the inner city. Whenever they'd go on holidays she'd collect her leash, bowl and tennis ball and put them out the front with the suitcases. One time they took her on a farmstay and she jumped the fence to a paddock, rounded up all the white chickens on one side, the brown chickens on the other, and stuck the rooster in the middle.

Is the vet still open? Perhaps you could drop by and they could put it in? You could wait in the car – less stressful. ETA as in, they come to you.

Looking for a dog with certain characteristics
Papillon Kisses replied to wild_rose's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hello! Welcome to the forum. I think it's great that you're asking all these questions before getting a dog. You asked about costs, I found this article from a vet (unsure of the date though) that gives some insight: https://www.lovethatpet.com/dogs/getting-started/basic-costs-of-dog-ownership/ There are dogs who assist children with autism and intellectual differences. Perhaps you could contact Assistance Dogs Australia or mindDog. -

Malcolm is a fan of our gas heater. When he wants it on he will stand in front of it and stare at you. If you move his mat to the space in front of it but it isn't in the optimum warming position, he will remain standing where he wants it and look at you until you move it. -
Nope, no such result over here! lol @ yellow geezer

Troy may need to know your operating system/device – it's not in the menu I have.

I've seen ones where the armholes come out the side like a human garment instead of underneath.

If memory serves me correctly you may be able to save specific searches on PetRescue and have alerts emailed to you. You/they could try a whole string of searches: Beagle, Cavalier, Beagle x, Cavalier x, Beagle x Cavalier, Beagle x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CKCS, the 'designer' name, etc etc... there are so many combinations when you consider lengthening/shortening CKCS. You might get a hit that way... either that particular mix or another dog that has been mislabeled, purebred or crossed with another breed but happens to suit them. (I kept getting alerts for staffies and greyhounds when searching for a small dog?!) Sydney Dogs And Cats Home seems to get a greater variety of breeds and crossbreeds than the average pound so they could also monitor their website. Be aware that once a popular breed or crossbreed goes from found to available they tend to get snatched up fast. Ideally be there well before opening on the day a dog becomes available. If you know what attracts them to this mix you could also suggest other crossbreed rescues or purebred dogs.

This is a very old post RP bumped up by spammer.

In our case it's because there's nothing else around that fits and I suspect it's the same for others: when you get the length the dog positively SWIMS in the coat unless they are overweight or very fluffy. With Malcolm it is further complicated by his deep chest, itty bitty legs and tendency to tuck his legs into his clothes when he curls up. Combine these things and you have a too short coat that flips up at the back for a crop top look, a dog with no front legs as they're trapped in the coat or a strapless dress if he manages to wriggle them out through the neck!

I second this!

Anyone know what breed this could be?
Papillon Kisses replied to chester1983's topic in General Dog Discussion
Do they always? I have seen fully-grown dogs with spectacular sets of 'oversized' ears. Would have loved to have seen them as puppies in that case. -

Welcome to the forum! Sorry for the loss of your JRT x. Unfortunately 'guess the mix' threads like this are against the guidelines. There are DNA tests you can do but the results seem kind of iffy. My approx 4kg rescue who is microchipped as a Chihuahua came back as JRT x Bichon x Australian Cattle Dog. Gracie looks like an adorable little munchkin all the same. Let us know how she goes settling in? I hope she helps your other dog feel better -
What Silly Things Does Your Dog Do?

That he is! He enjoys his creature comforts. I just don't understand how some of these comforts can be remotely comfortable. He recently made himself a little den out of wrapping paper. Oh and when he really wants something, whether it be roast chicken or pumpkin cooking in the microwave, he will find himself something to sit upon like an over-enthusiastic primary school student. Usually it is his beloved green/plastic bags but if they are unavailable he will perch on some other random object: my handbag, a shoe, an 8x8cm square of paper. He will seek out these things over his mat even when he looks very awkwardly positioned. -
Lovan for dogs; does it have to be dispersed?

I don't know what Jean Dodds does but they can and do test for thyroid issues here. Mal did not need to have anything sent overseas. -

Papillon Kisses replied to ricey's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hey Ricey, please take Keisha to the vet when you can. - You need to maintain close contact initially in case the medication needs adjusting. Incidentally they often start out at a reduced dose to avoid/lessen side effects. - She needs a full workup including bloods to check for physical/physiological illness that may cause or contribute to behaviour issues and to get a baseline on organ function (it can also affect choice of med). Then she'll need follow up bloods, usually done one-month in followed by 6-monthly to monitor any changes. - As mentioned they should ideally provide a behaviour modification plan that a trainer can help you implement. - There may be other things too, for example checking that the dose is correct... I am not a vet. Yes that's what our vet behaviourist told us to do. It wasn't just not going out in public though but also no guests and the avoidance of (other) anxiety triggers wherever practicable. For example as Malcolm has noise phobia we didn't mow or use the whipper snipper. Some vets might do things differently (e.g. a different time period), but everyone I know has been advised to initially make their dog's world very small. Dogs can initially feel sick (wobbly, nauseous) or have adverse reactions, and it also enables you/vet to judge how they are responding (e.g. do they have a very sick tummy due to the med or because you stressed them too much the day before). It's also to help cortisol levels trend back to baseline: http://theiscp.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/Linda-Cooper-Thesis-2a.pdf -

There really is something about that melonheaded puddeny pluto pup, isn't there @tdierikx. FYI because I'm an unsolicited telemarketer for helping dogs with fears there is a great Facebook group called Nail Maintenance for Dogs with lots of great resources for CC/DS dogs to nail trimming, teaching self-filing etc. Love your pupdates as always Perse.

Oh Riley! As for Malcolm, well, he turns every green or plastic bag he sees into some form of bedding. -
You can get indoor potties: https://www.vebopet.com.au/dog/toilet-training My parents have the $38.99 potty patch one for their toy poodle when he stays in an apartment. Works quite well. A cheaper option is to just get a large kitty litter tray and lay fake grass or toilet training pads inside it. If going the fake grass option have at least two so you can wash, air and rotate them.

Would anyone recommend Hanrob training for life?
Papillon Kisses replied to Zoeh's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
What people do in a public class can differ greatly from what they do in a private consult or alone with a dog.
