Most people don't know what breed of dog Jake is and always jump to the conclusion that he is a mongrel, do I care - Nope, does he - nope. I know what he is and that is all that matters. He has come into my life for my reasons not anyone elses and I don't feel the need to explain or justify what he is to anyone. I will spend ages talking to people interested in his breed and his behaviour. I don't go out of my way to correct people that assume he is a mutt, to me that is wasting my time, time I would much rather spend with him.

My son thoroughly enjoyed the movie, we saw it today. Me being the doggy person I kept noticing how one scene the dane was desexed the next entire.

That lesser valued pup will no doubt be sold for no lesser price than the other "valuable" ones and so the cycle continues

The issue for me about comments re breeders breeding for profit is that what about your very expensive breeds eg bostons, frenchies, BB's these puppies are sold for very high prices does this land them in the breeding for profit category? If the breeder maintains all of the other important qualities eg health/temperament testing, conformation, hygeine, socialisation etc etc why shouldn't they make a profit? What I mean is that it shouldn't be profit based and those not providing the other important needs should be targeted not the ones ticking the correct boxes.

My son has a lab puppy, his name is Bomber and they are inseparable they go everywhere together and Bomber evens sleeps with him on his bed. He is so quiet and well behaved, he is everything I ever wanted in a pup for my son and the best bit is................... he is a soft toy

ooh I saw that on Foxtel and thought it was Charch ;)

I love BB's but my memory of my neighbours one that used to constantly hump you whether you were sitting or standing always put me off, even if he couldn't get to you he would just hump the closest inanimate object to him and look at you I think his name was Mumbles but I called him Humpy.

Is There Anyone Who Does Not Have A Heart Dog?
casowner replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
As soon as I see those two words "Heart Dog" I begin to well up and my breathing hurts and I feel an unimaginable loss at the thought of my boy being gone. Once you have felt that bond you will have the same reaction -
Is There Anyone Who Does Not Have A Heart Dog?
casowner replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
You can not choose your heart dog, you choose each other and they leave an irreplaceable hole in your heart. You never know who they will be, they just are. In some ways I wish my heart boy never touched me the way he did as I can never get that bond again and even now I am crying at the thought of living without him even though it has been several years. I have struggled to force myself to create that same bond again but you can't and there is a reason for that and until we meet again we won't realise the true meaning of why they came into our lives. His ashes will be buried with me so that we can enter into our new life together and forever. -
The more I studied the pic the more I realised it was a CASD, but not the solid type I am so used to seeing especially when you compare that bitch to the frame of BJean. It is a shame as that dog doesn't represent the breed as well to me, but those that are genuinely interested in the breed would research them not just take the one pic as a clear indication of what they look like (I would hope)

Scanner isn't working so tried to take a photo of the photo
-
Lilli, I can scan it in on Sunday, the photo says CABAL Central Asian Shepherd, on looking at the photo closer the bitch looks very pale fawn with white markings, she is high in the rump and has a fine face with a very short coat.
-
Lilli, The breeder mentioned is on the breed pages of DOL and the pic was a very fine boned bitch that was a fawn colour, no cropped ears or tail, very anatolian like, to me. My biggest difference was how good they were with strange children and strangers in general. Most other comments were accurate, but not the stronger breed traits which is why I said Jake is not the same. If I had read the article it didn't quite represent what Jake is like at all, however as I said he is my first and what he is like is exactly what I researched. I don't think the photo is actually of the bitch that was spoken about in the article now that I have looked up the details, it may be an anatolian as she was very fine.

My method of restraint is knowing that my breeder will not have a puppy of the breed/litter I would want for a few years to come and my partner while very tolerant of me owning more animals that I could count is very set in regards to the number of dogs we have.

Poll- How Many Dogs And If You Work Full Time
casowner replied to jazawayaya's topic in General Dog Discussion
Fulltime - 2 dogs -
I have just read the article and it doesn’t typify my own CASD in regards to his behaviour and as he is my first (certainly not my last) I can only comment on my personal experience of the breed. Jake is a true guardian and family companion however he is never left alone with my children at anytime. Not because I doubt his character or nerve but the fact is he is a giant breed of dog and I would be irresponsible not to supervise interactions at all times. I would not trust him with strangers either as he is a guardian and it is his job to protect his home/charges from exactly that. Is he outwardly aggressive? No, but again it comes down to his natural instincts and drives, he is extremely social with people that he has been introduced to and quite enjoys visits from family members. Jake is certainly not overly affectionate nor does he crave human company all of the time, I have found the older he gets the more he is interested in affection. Since I have been pregnant he seeks more attention from me and wants to actually come into the house to lie near me, before this he would stress/pace when brought inside. If we are not home by 10pm at night he tends to go next door to our other property but when he hears our car he is home within 5 minutes. He is very aware of where we are if we are outside and he will observe what we are doing at all times but will only come over to check things out to ensure things are ok. When we go walking on the property he will walk a few metres in front of us but will regularly turn to see if we are following him. He is amazing with our own animals but will not tolerate intruders at all; he will happily let our pet rabbits out on the lawn with him but will chase wild ones. It is the same with kangaroos he will lie in the loungeroom with my joey and will sit alongside the roo enclosure outside contently, however he will not allow wild kangaroos on the property. Understanding the breed characteristics and never being complacent is I feel very important when owning a CASD but as I have said Jake is my first experience with his breed. All in all he is an amazing dog and I have so much appreciation that he has been allowed into our lives as he has given me a true peace and security while offering the companionship that a dog can offer.

Thanks Monah, I will go get the magazine to have a read From everything I have seen they do vary in appearance and I wouldn't personally recommend them to just anyone. They are a truly special breed that requires a very dedicated owner, luckily the breeders vet their potential puppy buyers to protect the integrity of the breed
