  2. They are the cutest pics, love the look on her face in the 4th shot. There is another xmas doggy shot thread here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=210236&hl=
  3. Corvus love your post about things to expose puppy too, there is so many things we don't even think of as new puppy owners. I remember when CJ was a pup one night we were just hanging out at home and for (what we thought was) no reason he just started freaking out, running from room to room whining and crying and for the life of me I couldn't figure it out and at the time after not having a puppy for 16 years I was at a loss for what to do with him. I knew if I freaked out too I would just re enforce his fears so I took him outside and he calmed down, it wasnt till a couple of nights later that he did exactly the same thing and the penny dropped as my OH had just turned the dishwasher on! Problem solved we knew then that it was that that had freaked him out so we worked thought it and he was fine. Similar thing happened with the ceiling fan. CJ was a winter puppy so when he was about 6 months old and we turned the ceiling fan on for the first time since we had him same thing again. It's little things like that you just don't think of so the more you can get Hugo associated with the better. Has anyone told you about the rule of sevens, I know Hugo is older now but this is just a rough guide but you get the idea. My apologies if you have already seen this. ~~ The Rule of Sevens ~~ By the time a puppy is 7 weeks old it should have...... Been on 7 different surfaces, such as: carpet concrete wood vinyl grass dirt gravel wood chips newspaper etc. Played with 7 different types of objects, such as: big balls small balls soft fabric toys fuzzy balls squeaky toys metal items wooden items paper/cardboard items milk/soda jugs etc. Been in 7 different locations, including: front yard backyard basement kitchen car garage laundry room bathroom crate kennel etc. Been exposed to 7 challenges, such as: climbed a box climbed off a box gone through a tunnel climbed up steps climbed down steps climbed over obstacles played hide and seek gone in and out of a doorway with a step etc. Eaten from 7 different containers: metal plastic cardboard paper china pie plate frying pan etc. Eaten in 7 different locations: crate yard kitchen basement laundry room bedroom x-pen etc. Met and played with 7 new people, including: children the elderly
  4. I guess the socialization thing is a tough call, I'm sure if a puppy owner came on DOL and said they had a pup and socialized it early and it got Parvo there would be an equal amount of people jumping up and down saying the opposite of what we are saying. I suppose at the end of the day only the person owning the puppy can make the call and if there is consequences then the owner has to take that on either way. All 4 of mine were socialized from the age of 8 weeks, would I do it differently next time? No nothing I would change at all. But I bet a person who has had a dog die or be very sick from Parvo would see things differently. Sorry to go off the topic of "The life of Hugo" but this part of any pups life is important.
  5. Love this thread, great shots of xmas doggies, It funny a couple of people had commented on the out take of Tully, Some of the out takes are the best shots! I am leaning towards this one of all of the gang together, I tried for Hats on all 4 but it just didn't happen
  6. Well I obvioulsy missed something re: the socialization aspect. I agree with Corvus and Huski, early socialization is best. But I will admit it is a hard call, vaccination over socialization?? You need to find the happy medium with being able to socialized pup with out to much risk of parvo and other doogy nasties. Are you able to take Hugo to play with friends dogs ot get him out around other dogs a bit more often??
  7. KK, those shots ae gold, love the second one!
  8. Hugo has grown heaps what a lovely little boy he is. As far as puppy school is concerned if you don't like the way a trainer is handing your puppy go with your instinct, don't take anything as gospel, there is more than one way to train a dog. Time out is good if he is being a bit boisterous but not restraining them  I would be most upset if that was my puppy! Don't let people dishearten you with comments on your suitability. Even if you are not suited to the pup you have him and you have to make him the best puppy he can be and I am sure you are capable of doing that. Mkae it your goal to prove these people wrong. We see a lot of people who come through our obedience school and yes some ar enot suited to the puppy they choose but with the right guidance and training it is all good in the end. The main thing is you think/know he is the right pup for you, THAT is all that matters. Do you mind if I ask how old you are? (PM me if you like or tell me to mind my own business, ) From your posts it seems like you are doing everything right with Hugo and trying like crazy to have a good happy healthy puppy, well done! Ps. I also noticed a couple of pages back Hugo has two crates in his area, just curious as to why??
  9. Great shots!! I have just did my doggy xmas shoot, havent edited all the pics yet but here is a couple one of the out takes
  10. Training is so exhausting  Having a little play after the lesson

  13. Glad your still about Tenties! Did you get my PM? Tez, sounds like you have had a full on day too.....! dunno bout the weather? Hope its not raining at least. I hope your right about Tully!
  14. Hey Lizzie, haven't finished editing them yet, been at work most of the day, then home, then off to vote, then jobs around the house, needless to say its been a rather busy day! I cant decide between one I took of all 4 together or to make a mixture of single shots, decisions decisions!! I will post some more when I've edited them. Hope Melb weather is not to yucky for your trip tomorrow, drive safe!
  15. So whats everyone up to on this wildly wet weekend? I'm hoping the weather eases of at least for obedience in the morning! Tez are you and Alli coming over? I'm going to bring Tully hope T will get time to test her and Jane tomorrow, not liking my chances with Tully but will have a crack anyway, I know she will pass the retrieve section of the test I'm sure Jane will pass with flying colors!! Tenties where the heck are you woman?
  16. Do not underestimate the power of a determined dog Tez, She may just wait till your out and have a really good go!! I will look forward to your pics of Jane and young Gus dismembering Santa, I had to refrain mine frm playing tug o war with the santa hat today.
  17. A couple more I did a few in this style and I really love it but not sure it is colorful and chrismassy enough?? Hey Tenties, where the heck are you?? DId you get my PM from a couple of days ago? or was that yesterday I can't keep up with the days of the week, the end of this year is flying by!
  18. Well the card expedition went quite well if I do say so myself, I am amazed at the patience my dogs display when I am taking photos, they are very willing subjects. I will post some pics once I get them all edited and sorted. Heres a couple I prepared earlier Lizzy, The Spoody you seen could very well have been related to CJ, he has 14 brothers and sisters around the area. We keep in touch with a few of his sibs, its great when they have a run together I'm 100% sure CJ knows his rellys when he sees them!! They are quite a mixed bag being crosses though, one of the girls from CJ's litter is only about 8 kilos and CJ tips the scales at around 19 kilos so a big difference! CJ turned out to be the biggest of both litters from all the ones I have caught up with.
  19. Gee Tez, your good doing spin classes, sounds too much like hard work for me Funny Jane, they are just so clever, it never ceases to amaze me! Not sure if I told you I taught Tully how to beg, but didn't need to teach the other 3 they just copied, how cool is that! Now teaching all four to beg together, very cute! I have Lacy and Tully together down pat. Right at the moment I am trying to take this years xmas card pic and am going to try to get Tully to beg with Santa hat on might be a bit of an ask but I am going to have a crack, might be back later with some out takes
